Main window
Library registration
On launch, the application appears as shown below.
In order to view a video in TMPGEnc KARMA.. you have to register it in the
library first.
On the first launch, the application scans the content of the “My Document/
My Videos/” folder, creates a library file (a file containing the video files information) and then displays the library list.
You can change the scanned folders by using the Managed folder settings
option of the Library menu located in the upper-left corner of the main window.
You can also add a file to the library list simply by dragging and dropping its
icon in the list.

Add a video to the library

Click on the Library menu located in the upper-left corner of the main window, then choose the “Add to your library” item. The available sub-items are:
“Add a file”: Allows you to register one or more files.
“Add a folder”: Allows you to register the content of one folder.

TMPGEnc KARMA.. also allows you to set folders in which its contents are
automatically scanned and added to the library.
“Add“ button: Adds a folder to the current managed folder list.

“Delete” button: Remove a selected folder from the managed folder list. The
folder itself is not deleted.

“Enabled” checkbox: When checked, TMPGEnc KARMA.. automatically scans
the folder content.
“Search subfolder“ checkbox: When checked, TMPGEnc KARMA.. also scans
the content of the folders within the current folder.
Note: After adding a managed folder, your library will
not update automatically
until you either relaunch the
software or select “Update
your library” from the Library
menu.

Background preview
These buttons allows you to switch from a text view of the library to a
thumbnail view.
By double-clicking, or selecting an item or a thumbnail in the library list then
pressing the “Enter” key, the selected video file playback starts in the backver1
ground preview area.

When in thumbnail view mode you can set the size of
the thumbnails by using the slider to the right of the
display mode buttons.
PLAYBACK
Transparency setting
By using the slider on the upper-right of the main window you can control
the transparency of the main window, allowing you to view the status of the
desktop even when TMPGEnc KARMA.. occupies most of it.
Use the Library view toggle button located on the lower-right
corner of the window to display
or hide the library list.

Sub-preview
Sub-preview playback
TMPGEnc KARMA.. allows you to view one video, but can also display up to
three more videos in three sub-views.
Playback starts as soon as the video file is dragged into the sub-view. Playback controls are shown below.

You set-up a sub-view playback by dragging and dropping a library list item

wish to use as a library thumbnail then
right-click on the picture.

“Set this image as a thumbnail” item.

Sub-preview, synchronized playback
Playback in a separate window
The sub-views allow you to playback different video files at the same time.
Using this option you can, for example, compare different encoding settings
or view the same scene recorded by several cameras.
You can view one of the background preview or sub-preview videos in a
separate window.
1. Register the video files in the different sub-preview areas (up to three).

2. Once registered, click the “First frame” button located below the sub-preview area. All the
sub-preview playheads return to the first frame
of the videos.
By clicking on the “Sync” button all the sub-preview videos start playback
at the same time. You can also click the “Sync” button again to pause the
playback of all sub-preview videos.

Right-click on a video file or sub-preveiw then select the “Playback in another window” option.
Mouse shortcut playback (sub-preview only):
Click with the left button of the mouse in a sub-preview, then, while keeping
the left button pressed, click the right button.
The playback starts in a separate window.

Video file tagging
Video file color labelling
TMPGEnc KARMA.. gives you the option to place a tag on the video files for
verification or search purposes.
If you wish to simply categorize your video files, or mark them for later use,
the color labelling function is for you. With one click, you can apply a color

label to any selected video file.
Right-click on a video file in the library then select “Set a new tag”.

The “Tag setting” window appears; enter any tag you wish. You can enter
more than one tag by separating each tag with a comma ( , ).
2. Click the color you wish to use as a label in the Color label buttons located
in the upper-right part of the main window.

File search
TMPGEnc Series Launcher
TMPGEnc KARMA.. provides a tool to search the video files in the library according to the file name.
This option allows you to launch from TMPGEnc KARMA.. any “TMPGEnc”
software available on your machine.
Enter the search term(s) in the search field located in the upper-left part of
the main window. The video files responding to the search criteria are automatically listed in the library view.
Click the “TMPGEnc Series Launcher” menu located in the upper part of the
main window then select the TMPGEnc application you wish to launch. The
selected application launches.

Tag search
You can also search video files according to their tag content.
Select a tag in the tag list located on the left of the main widow to display
only the video files having the selected tag.
Once launched, you can drag and drop a video file directly from the library
list to the TMPGEnc application.

Last, you can search video files according to their color label.
Select a color label in the color label list located on the left of the main
widow to display only the video files having the selected color label.

Controls description
TMPGEnc TileShot CREATOR
The TMPGEnc TileShot CREATOR you can launch from the “Tool” menu of
TMPGEnc KARMA.. allows you to create a digital contact sheet from a selected video file for your archives, website etc. Using this tool you can create
an animated picture which is useful if you don’t know how to make it on your
own, or your server does not allow it. Of course, you can also use this tool to
extract only one picture of a video file.
In the library view, select the video file you wish to create a thumbnail from.
In the “Tool” menu, select the “TMPGEnc TileShot CREATOR” option. The
TMPGEnc TileShot CREATOR launches.
1. In the “Choose the source file” the path to the file previously selected
in the library should appear. If you launch the TMPGEnc TileShot CREATOR
independently, click the “Browse” button to select the file.

4. In the “Specify the number of thumbnails per line” field you can set the
number of thumbnail pictures per line. The more you set, the smaller the
thumbnail picture becomes. Default value is 4.

5. With the “Choose the output mode” pulldown menu you can set the output picture quality. The higher the quality, the more the time necessary to
complete the output.
6. Once the settings are done, click the “Start” button to create the
thumbnail(s). The result appears in the preview part of the main window.
7. With the “Choose the picture saving format”
pulldown menu you

lect the file saving format of the picture in the preview. Default is “JPEG”.
2. In the “Specify the width of the outputted picture” field you can set in
pixels the width of the output. Default value is 640 pixels.
8. With the “Picture saving” you can choose how the generated thumbnails
are saved.
3. In the “Specify the number of thumbnails for output” field you can set the
number of thumbnail pictures. Default value is 24.
Tile: The thumbnails are saved in one picture.
Sequential output (tile size): Each thumbnail in the preview is saved
in a separate file.
Sequential output (original size): Each thumbnail in the preview is
saved in a separate file. Size is the same as the source.
Animation: This option is enabled when the output format is GIF.
The thumbnails are saved in one animated file.

Library display settings
Preferences
This window lets you set the TMPGEnc KARMA.. general preferences.
In the “Options” menu of the main window, select the “Preferences” option.
General

Display type: This allows you to choose the priority of the performance of
the library display. You can prioritize the speed of listing library items or the
reading of data. The details of each display type is shown upon selection.
Cache size: You can set the size of the cache to improve or limit performance. A large cache size will improve the display speed of your library
items, but will require more memory.
List display
Display alternated item backgrounds: When checked, library item rows
have an alternating background color to assist in the ease of reading.
Thumbnail display
Apply a mirror effect on thumbnail: When checked, a mirror effect appears below the video file thumbnail picture when in thumbnail view mode.
Display the thumbnail text information: When checked, the name of the
movie file associated with the thumbnail is displayed next to it.

By unchecking these options you can reduce the processor workload and
improve the TMPGEnc KARMA.. speed.
Use transparent window: When checked, the main window transparency
setting becomes enabled.
Library update settings
Update the library at application launch: When checked, scans the content of all registered library folders at start-up and updates the library list if
new files are found.
Delete items without files when updating the library: When checked,
removes from the library list all references to video files that no longer exist
in the registered library folders.

Viewable files
TMPGEnc KARMA.. relies on the video codecs installed in your system to
playback the video files. Files that are not playable in Windows Media Player
cannot be viewed in TMPGEnc KARMA.. If necessary, install the proper
codecs.

Some video files may not be viewable even with the proper codec installed
because of the file name extention. You will find below a list of the supported
file name extensions.
*.asf, *.avi, *.div, *.divx, *.dvr-ms, *.flv, *.m1v, *.m2t, *.m2ts, *.m2v, *.mod,
*.mp2, *.mp4, *.mpa, *.mpg, *.mts, *.rm, *.wmv
Audio file support
TMPGEnc KARMA.. does not support the registration or playback of audio
only files.
