What is Derma Rolling/ Microneedling?
Until recently, derma rolling was practically unheard of in Western culture. Deriving
from the ancient practice of acupuncture, it’s become widely used due to being an easy,
non-invasive way of stimulating the skin's natural collagen and elastin production.
Despite its name, it actually provides a gentler alternative to the current, more painful
3
methods of improving the skin's appearance; such as chemical peels, injections and
other more invasive methods.
The process (called collagenesis) by which derma rolling stimulates collagen and elastin
production is complex and requires some knowledge of dermal biology. To put it in
simple terms, the tiny needles create "micro trauma" which summons the skin's cells to
the site and then incites them to work to heal and rebuild the skin, thereby laying down
an entirely new matrix of collagen and elastin. At the same time, it works to break down
the old collagen, reducing the appearance of stretch marks and scars. Although chemical
peels, lasers and microdermabrasion operate on a similar principle, they actually may
remove the epidermis, which is a lot harsher and more painful.
Although the increased collagen production associated with derma rolling is reason
enough to get on board, its ability to increase transdermal absorption of combined
topical products is equally impressive. The process disturbs the epidermis just enough to
allow for better and deeper absorption of topical application into the skin without
excessive fluid loss. This is particularly useful with anti-aging products, for increased
efficacy and speed of improvement. In fact, some substances and medicines that
previously could not cross the skin's barrier are now, with the help of derma rolling, able
to be delivered directly into the deeper layers of the skin to directly affect the cells and
fibroblasts, leading to a revolution in the cosmetics industry.

THE BELHALLA KIT IS DESIGNED TO IMPROVE THE APPEARANCE OF YOUR SKIN:
INDICATIONS:
● Signs of visible ageing
● Fine lines and wrinkles
● Sun damage
● Uneven texture / enlarged pores
● Dry / rough skin
● Pigment, age spots, mottling.
● Rosacea / redness
● Under eye pouches
● Acne / acne scars / scars

● Cellulite & stretch marks
● Reduction of the formation of free radicals in sun exposed skin
Did you know that your body's largest organ is your skin? It’s also the most difficult
organ to care for because it is located on the outside of your body. Although your skin is
continually renewing itself it’s also constantly exposed. While cleaning and moisturizing
are beneficial, if you’re not protecting and feeding your skin the nutrients it needs, like
any organ, it will not perform to the best of it’s ability and your skins appearance will
suffer.

Derma rolling uses small needles spaced closely together in order to lightly and evenly
penetrate the skin, initiating a renewal process within the body which promotes healing,
repair and positive change.
It is important to note that the micro needles used in derma rolling are not actually
injecting anything into the skin; they are simply giving any products applied afterward a
direct path to the skin's deeper layers, where they can be effectively delivered for
optimal results. However, for many, the main objective will be to repair the skin and
increase collagen production and this can be stimulated by the controlled injury caused
by the action of the tiny needles by themselves.
Derma rolling is proving to be a much safer and comfortable alternative to ablative
cosmetic treatments that remove or damage the outer layers of skin. The tiny needle
punctures from derma rolling disappear within a few hours, leaving the epidermis intact.
It’s also more affordable and convenient, with no down time.
6
What is collagen and why does it make us look younger?
Collagen is the protein responsible for giving your skin its distinct structure, shape and
firmness. As you age, your body starts to produce less collagen, while the collagen and
elastin fibres you do have tend to weaken and causes a loss in the skins structural
integrity. This unfavourable combination is only made worse by exposure to the sun,
unhealthy lifestyle, stress and other environmental damage. The result? Amongst
others; fine lines, skin thinning and sagging as well as dark circles under your eyes.
Applying collagen directly to your skin is not the answer and doesn’t seem to have much
effect, there are however, several ways you can stimulate your body to produce more
collagen by itself, where it’s needed. Using a derma roller and serum kit is one of the
easiest, most efficient and effective ways to achieve this.
Derma rolling can also be referred to as: microneedling, dermal needling, skin rolling,
skin needling, collagen induction therapy (CIT), or percutaneous collagen induction (PCI).
In skin rolling, not only is new collagen produced, but also old collagen is broken down.
Eventually a new matrix of collagen and elastin is formed, which results in thicker skin
and a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and scars. In fact, it is the breaking down
of the collagen that actually has the smoothing effect on uneven skin.
7
How does derma rolling work?
Derma rolling creates miniscule holes that reach deep into the skin, in effect a very
controlled injury is being delivered, which initiates your own body’s biological processes
of renewal and repair. The tiny holes that are created in the process heal within hours,
but the positive effects of the procedure are noticeable over time and results are longlasting. It is the skin's natural healing response to these holes that brings about the
desired changes.
Reverse, renew & repair your skin
Skin rolling has few side effects, is easy to do, and there is substantial scientific evidence
to support its efficacy. It’s roots are in Chinese traditional medicine,
although modern derma rollers are not the same, their use has benefited from the
experience of years of cosmetic acupuncture.

About BelHalla Derma Roller 540
Our product arrives sterilized and vacuum packed for your safety.
BelHalla – The Best Needles
Many people think that when it comes to beauty, more is better. This is not the case
with derma rolling. In fact, shorter needles achieve the desired result. We designed our
roller with 1mm needles, the ideal length to deliver maximum effect, without affecting
the deeper layers of skin unnecessarily. 0.5mm needles can also be used with good
effect.
Although humans have varying skin thicknesses, this variation is not significant enough
to require different needle sizes for different people. The epidermis is so thin that these
differences become insignificant. In some places, skin can be as thin as 0.5mm, or as
thick as 4mm. The skin's average thickness is 1.5mm. A 1mm needle roller is ample size
to provide the right amount of stimulation to yield noticeable improvements. Positively
affecting many signs of visible ageing, including fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage,
uneven texture, enlarged pores, dry or rough skin, pigment, age spots, mottling, rosacea
or redness, under eye pouches, acne, acne scars, scars, loose or lax skin and cellulite or
stretch marks.
This 1mm length represents an optimal balance between efficacy and safety. Severe
scarring may be more effectively treated with a 1.5mm roller, but this is something that
should only be performed with a topical anaesthetic, in clinic by a medical professional.
9
BelHalla - More comfortable
Although it may sound counter-intuitive, sharper needles are actually less painful to use,
because they slide accurately and more smoothly into the skin without scratching or
tearing - the same philosophy applies to acupuncture needles. BelHalla products use
high quality titanium, alloy micro surgical needles, and we expect one roller will be
sufficient to complete each 12 week treatment course. (It’s recommended that you
begin each new treatment course with a new roller).
10
BelHalla - The handle
The handle and drum of the roller are made of robust plastic. The handle has been
carefully designed with a flattened underside, with perfect contours for maximum
comfort during use. A flatter handle, aligned parallel to the skin, allows the roller to
achieve maximum contact.
Effective Collagenesis
The dermis of the skin contains clever cells called fibroblasts, which synthesize collagen
production. These cells can only be reached by needles that are 0.5mm or longer, which
is why 1mm micro-needling is ideal.
Lines and Wrinkles
The most common use for derma rolling is for the improvement of lines and wrinkles on
the face. Many clinical studies have shown a significant improvement on all skin types.
Scars and stretch marks
Derma rolling helps reduce the appearance of scars by breaking up old collagen bundles
and forming a new matrix of collagen that follows the "basket weave" pattern seen in
healthy skin, rather than the unidirectional pattern found in scars. This action can also
help improve the appearance of stretch marks, which can arise when the skin lacks a
good support structure. Although it takes longer to see improvement, the results can be
remarkable.
Cellulite
The way in which derma rolling improves the appearance of cellulite is still being
researched, but it’s been speculated that this is achieved by creating a stronger matrix
of collagen and elastin that helps keep the swollen fat cells (which lead to cellulite)
under control.
Pigment
People with uneven pigmentation have also seen improvements after derma rolling, but
the extent to which success is achieved depends on a number of individual factors. It is
believed that derma rolling can help to regulate melanogenesis and melanocyte
differentiation. This process can also help improve age spots.
11
Rosacea
Derma rolling is shown to improve the appearance of rosacea, and depending on the
severity, can achieve good results. The process strengthens connective tissue and
reduces blood vessel expansion and so the skin appears much less red. Unfortunately,
rosacea has a tendency to flare up with repeated exposure to triggers such as sunlight
and certain foods, so these effects may only be temporary.
Acne
When it comes to acne, caution is urged, as rolling over active acne can actually spread
bacteria and make the condition worse. However, derma rolling can be effectively used
to improve the appearance of acne scars as well as allowing delivery of medication and
theraputic preparations to acne prone skin on the face and body.
Thinning Hair
Derma rolling can also help with hair loss and thinning hair, especially male/ female
pattern baldness and post-partum hair loss. It increases the body's endothelial growth
factor, which increases hair follicle size and promotes hair growth. The practice of
micro-needling also helps hair loss products penetrate better to perform more
effectively. This is best suited to those in the early stages of hair loss.
Microneedleing - Clinical Trials
With so many skincare products making dramatic claims, it’s easy to become
disillusioned. Skin rolling is a technique studied extensively by scientists, even more so
since its increasing popularity. Studies below demonstrate its effectiveness:
● A 1995 study by Orentreich and Orentreich demonstrated how the introduction
of a needle promotes wound healing.
● A 1998 study showed that 0.15mm micro-needles placed in the skin for ten
seconds resulted in calcein being absorbed by the skin up to 10,000 times better.
● A 2006 study involving biopsies from ten patients showed an average increase of
206% in new fibres after receiving just one treatment with a micro-needle roller.
One person in the study experienced a 1000% increase in new fibres. Skin tissue
damage was not noted.
12
● In a 2008 study of 480 patients who experienced wrinkles, scarring, loose skin
and stretch marks, patients noted an average improvement of between 60-80%
in their skin following derma roller treatment. Collagen and elastin
improvements were still apparent six months after the treatment.
● A 2009 study found 34 of 37 patients improved the appearance of scars by one
or two grades following the use of derma rolling. This is an area of great
potential that scientists are currently studying in depth to improve future
treatments.
A few tips to note before you try BelHalla skin rolling
Because absorption is extremely high with derma rolling, it is crucial to begin with very
clean skin. Thoroughly remove all makeup, creams, and other products applied earlier in
the day as these could linger on the skin's surface for many hours afterwards. Allowing
these ingredients to penetrate the skin could lead to undesired results.
After Derma Rolling, consideration of product application and cleanliness is very
important. The skin will more readily absorb ingredients applied for several hours
afterwards, so avoid applying anything to the skin with potentially toxic ingredients. For
this reason, many people find that using the derma roller at night before bed is the ideal
time. It’s good for the skin, in general, to stick to the most natural product ingredients
possible.
Derma rolling can help with acne, but it is important to avoid during times of active
breakouts as this could spread bacteria.
Over treating does not help
Although the quality of BelHalla needles provides for a superior product, the technique
with which it is used is also a vital part of achieving optimal results. Although the entire
premise of derma rolling is based on creating a tiny amount of trauma to the skin,
creating greater trauma does not mean you will get better results. In fact, it is important
to keep the damage to an absolute minimum, creating only enough miniscule damage to
spur the skin to start the healing process. Doing otherwise will only lead to pain and a
longer recovery time. Please follow the instructions that follow carefully. Derma rolling
should not be a painful procedure when done correctly. Mild discomfort, but not
painful.

14
12 Week Treatment Guide and Instructions
● Vitamin C+ serum used daily, as per instructions for using BelHalla
Rejuvenating Serum that follow.
● Derma Rolling approximately every 14 days, totalling 7 treatments over 12
weeks.
Instructions:
1. Clean the skin thoroughly.
2. Apply a skin sanitising product using cotton pads (optional).
3. Hold the roller gently, taking care not to apply significant pressure. Too much
pressure will lead to pain and increased nerve sensitivity. If it seems that your roller is
dragging or pulling the skin, check the needles to ensure they’re in place and not bent.
Remember, you only want to penetrate the top layer of skin.
4. Roll the roller in one direction only, pulling the drum towards the handle. You should
not be pushing it, as that can make going over uneven surfaces more difficult. Going
back and forth could cause the needle to re-enter the same hole repeatedly, which is
why moving in only one direction is crucial for even coverage.
5. Cover the area using short controlled strokes of 2-4 inches. It is harder to maintain
constant and even pressure using longer strokes, so they should be avoided.
Always roll upwards and outwards. Use care near the hairline so that hair does not
become entangled in the roller and ripped out. Roll across each area around 10 to 15
times, making sure to keep count.
6. Follow up with a suitable high quality skin serum if desired, ensuring that it is
designed and safe for use after derma rolling, such as the Vitamin C+ or Hair+ serum,
included in BelHalla kits.
7. Please follow these guidelines, combined with the specific guide relating to each
individual area of the body.
15
What to expect afterwards
It is normal for your skin to be red for a few hours after the treatment. In some cases,
(usually only when needles over 1.0mm are used), the redness could persist for as long
as two days. A little bit of itchiness is also possible due to the release of histamines. Dry
skin, tightness, and tenderness are all common side effects. Avoid direct sunlight
immediately after the treatment and be sure to use a natural sun protection (spf 30+) if
you do need to venture outdoors.
The increased collagen production starts to take effect after around 48 hours, although
clear visible improvement should begin to become noticeable after about 3-6 weeks
into the treatment course, so it’s important to be patient and consistent. You will soon
notice benefits, with cumulative ongoing improvement over time - smoother, fresher
looking skin with a more even tone.
We recommend taking before and after pictures at 0, 3, 6, 12 and 24 weeks so you can
keep track of your progress. It can be very satisfying to see just how far you have
come!

Specific instructions for individual areas of the body
Facial Rejuvenation
1.
2.
3.
Begin on one side of the face and cover it thoroughly before proceeding to the
other side. It is better to start on the right side and then do the left side.
Roll outwards from the middle of the chin toward the lower ear horizontally.
Place the roller slightly higher up the cheek and repeat, gradually working your
way further up the face until the entire half has been covered. Resist the urge to
roll over the eye socket area. If you have eye wrinkles that you want to work on,
gently pull this skin downward over the cheek and roll it there to avoid damaging
your eye. The skin around and under the eye is extremely thin, caution is
advised. Do not use excessive pressure and roll gently.
Upper Arm Treatment
Derma rolling can help sagging or wrinkled skin in the upper arm area.
1. Before beginning, massage the upper arm, working upward in the direction of
the chest.
2. Then start rolling upward toward the chest on the right arm, moving across to
the back while continuing an upward roll.
3. Then cover the same area with perpendicular rolls.
17
4.
Repeat the entire process on the left arm, and follow with BelHalla Vitamin C+
serum.
Hand Rejuvenation
Just as derma rolling can stimulate collagen production and thicken the skin on your
face, it has a similar effect on your hands.
1. After cleaning your hands thoroughly, start with the tip of the right thumb and
roll up the thumb and down the back with short strokes.
2. Do this on each finger, being sure to roll up across the back of the hand.
3. Then roll across the back of each hand, perpendicular to the fingers before
repeating the entire process on the left hand.
Needles longer than 1mm are not recommended for hand treatment. Do not use
excessive pressure.
18
Abdomen
1. Start in the middle of the abdomen and roll upwards.
2. Make repeated strokes toward the right side, then move back to the centre and
work outward to the left side.
3. Cover each area 10 to 15 times. Apply BelHalla Vitamin C+ serum and use
caution when going out in the sun.
Keep in mind that a 1.5mm roller might be better for severe scarring, while 0.75mm can
be enough for smaller scars. The BelHalla 540 1.0mm is the sweet spot.
Thigh area
1.
It is important to only massage upwards towards the trunk, to work with
venous drainage and not damage the valves in the veins which cause blood to
pool in the limbs.
2. This is the one area where its recommend to apply a little more pressure, as
clinical experience suggests you achieve quicker results.
Avoiding the sun is usually easier on the thighs than the face and hands and direct
sunlight should still be avoided for at least 24 hours.
19
Neck and Décolletage
If you have loose skin in the neck area, derma rolling can help tighten it, whilst also
reducing the appearance of aging and sun damage.
1. As always, clean the skin first.
2. Start from the base of the neck in the centre and roll up the neck until you reach
the jaw.
3. Start each subsequent roll slightly higher up until you have covered the entire
area, then do the right side and the left side.
4. Keep in mind that the skin on the neck is extremely sensitive, so caution is advised. It
is important to roll gently, try to avoid any significant redness or discomfort.
20
Hair Loss
Typically, pattern hair loss occurs on the top and crown of the head, and for women,
starts with a widening centre parting. Hair can sometimes get caught around the roller
and pulled out, which only leads to further damage, roll in the direction of the hair to
avoid this. It is advised to use BelHalla hair regenerating serum for best results.
Improvement is gradual over time and it is important to take treatment images to track
your progress. Treatment is more suited for those in the early stages of hair loss.
21
Derma Roller Warnings & Precautions (contraindications)
Avoid cross infection - Do not share your roller.
Some redness after using the derma roller is completely normal and should not be a
cause for alarm. However, if redness persists for several days, make sure to start the
following treatment with significantly less pressure and monitor. Discontinue use if
discomfort persists.
Keep the roller out of reach of children and place it inside the protective case when not
in use to prevent damaging the needles.
Hemophiliacs and pregnant women should avoid derma rolling altogether.
Derma rolling should be avoided on top of broken skin, such as scabs, wounds, and
blisters. Those with cold sores should also exercise extreme caution to avoid spreading
them.
People with raised or suspicious moles, skin cancer, keloid scars, or bruised skin should
also avoid this treatment.
Those taking anticoagulants or any medications that increase photosensitivity should
avoid derma rolling while using the medication. Any areas of the skin that are being
treated with topical medications should not be derma rolled.
If you have recently undergone other facial treatments such as IPL, filler injections,
chemical peels, or microdermabrasion, you should wait until the inflammation has
subsided before attempting derma rolling.
People with compromised immune systems or diabetes are at higher risk of infection
following the treatment, so they should consult their physician before proceeding.
Certain topical medications should also be avoided before, during, and after skin rolling.
In particular, creams containing Vitamin A and retinoids should be avoided because of
the risk of too much of the product being absorbed into the bloodstream. Products
containing EGF (epidermal growth factor) should also be avoided.
22
It is important to wait at least a week between treatments to avoid damage, the optimal
recommended treatment frequency for many conditions is fortnightly. Using the roller
more often will not bring about additional benefits and could lead to undue irritation. In
fact, waiting 14 days between treatments is ideal, because collagen levels peak around
then so the wound healing cycle can begin again more effectively.
It is also recommended to give your skin a one-month break after performing the
procedure a total of 7 times (always waiting 14 days in between treatments). Please see
the BelHalla 12 week treatment course included. Repeat the treatment course following
every one month break for ongoing improvement and maintenance.
Cleaning your derma roller (isopropyl alcohol, min 70%)
Derma rollers must be cleaned thoroughly after each use to prevent infection. This is a
simple process that only takes a few minutes to complete.
1. Rinse the roller using warm running water.
2. Disinfect the roller with isopropyl alcohol of at least 70%. This can be achieved either
through spraying generously, or by placing the roller into a cup with alcohol for 30 mins
to soak. If you choose this option, be sure to rest the roller on top of a cotton ball inside
the cup to avoid bending or damaging the needles.
Even after cleaning and disinfecting the roller, you should never use it on another
person.
Store your roller in a protective case, taking care not to let it come into contact with the
sides of the case as this can damage the needles. If you drop or damage your roller,
discard immediately.
23
MICRONEEDLING COMBINED WITH
BELLHALLA VITAMIN C+ SKIN SERUM
VITAMIN C, HYALURONIC ACID, VITAMIN E + AMINO
COMPLEX SERUM
Although dry needling alone can achieve great improvements in the skin, combining the
practice with a product that takes advantage of the increased trans-dermal absorption
can yield even greater results. Our serum has been specifically formulated with
ingredients that will work in conjunction with the derma roller's unique ability to deliver
the product deep into the skin's layers.
BelHalla Vitamin C+ skin serum has been formulated to take advantage of the enhanced
absorption achieved with the BelHalla derma roller.
24
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is often mentioned in conjunction with anti-aging, but the truth is that it is
helpful to people of all ages. No matter how old you are, your skin is exposed to
ultraviolet radiation every time you step outdoors without wearing sunscreen. Even if
you religiously apply SPF, your skin still has to cope with pollutants in the air.
While you might think this type of damage cannot be reversed, the truth is that Vitamin
C can reduce the appearance of the effects of free radicals when applied topically. It is
an indispensable part of the body's natural collagen production process, making it the
natural choice serum to be used with a skin roller. Moreover, once the vitamin has been
absorbed by the skin, it cannot be washed away, so the benefits will be long lasting.
Other benefits from Vitamin C include increased cell turnover, a reduction in skin
discoloration and an overall brightening effect. BelHalla rejuvenating skin serum
contains a potent 20% Vitamin C. Many people notice a difference in skin tone and
brightness after as little as a week of daily use, combined with fortnightly derma rolling
for optimal results as per the treatment guide.
Vitamin C is particularly useful to counteract the dry skin that can occur as a result of
derma rolling. Puncturing the skin's stratum corneum is a great way to increase product
absorption, but small amounts of your body's fluids also leak out in the process. Vitamin
C can help avoid this problem.
25
Hyaluronic acid
BelHalla rejuvenating skin serum contains a perfectly balanced 11% hyaluronic acid.
Don't be fooled by its name; hyaluronic acid is not a harsh chemical. In fact, it is actually
a moisture-binding ingredient that keeps your skin hydrated and looking healthily
plump. Hyaluronic acid can actually hold 1000 milliliters of water per gram, which is why
it is so effective at helping your skin retain moisture. It also helps you maintain your
collagen supply as you age so that your skin stays smooth and elastic.
Hyaluronic acid is something that you already have in your body. It's what makes your
skin firm and supple. As babies, we have an abundance of hyaluronic acid (HA), but our
stores are slowly depleted over a lifetime, especially after age 40. It is thought that we
loose approximately 1% of our HA per year from birth onwards, so if you are over 50,
you have lost more than half.
Thankfully, it is easy to get the benefits of hyaluronic acid with our serum. When used in
conjunction with the derma roller, it is readily absorbed by your skin so it can begin
working its magic, boosting elasticity and plumping out lines by drawing to it precious
hydration. However, it is important to note that hyaluronic acid is capable of
penetrating the skin's uppermost layers, so it will still be beneficial on the days you use
it without the roller. This ingredient is helpful to people with all skin types, even those
with oily skin. Skin becomes luminous, hydrated, plumper, with more youthful vitality.
26
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is great for your skin, its an antioxidant that can protect and repair.
Antioxidants neutralize the oxidant effect of free radicals, which are molecules that
damage collagen. The atoms that make up your body try to maintain an even number of
electrons, that's what makes them stable.
If an atom has an uneven number of electrons, it will steal an electron from another
atom to become stable. When your skin takes a beating from outside factors, such as
the sun's ultraviolet rays, your body can produce free radicals.
Free radicals are atoms with an uneven number of electrons, and when they form inside
your body, they steal electrons from healthy cells like the ones that make up your skin.
This can cause a damaging chain reaction which causes cellular damage.
Vitamin E is one of the most powerful antioxidants, but your body can't produce it by
itself. BelHalla revitalising serum allows you to deliver vitamin E directly in to the skin
where it's needed most.
27
Amino complex
Amino acids are proteins that have a positive effect on cells. Your skins cells
are constantly renewing themselves, and they need amino acids in order to carry out
this process. Amino acids can also help boost collagen production and you now know
how important collagen is in improving your skin's texture and appearance! Put simply,
collagen is a protein, and amino acids are the building blocks of protein. The amino acids
are particularly useful when it comes to boosting collagen production.
Amino acids are known for their ability to smooth skin, fill lines, and reduce the
appearance of stretch marks and scarring. They can help your skin stay hydrated,
lending a more youthful appearance to your complexion.
28
