ABS braking is no longer the province of privileged performance cars. It is
vital safety equipment for all vehicles - especially heavy road users like the
commercial sector. A fact increasingly recognised by legislation, which makes
it mandatory for a wide range of commercial vehicles to be fitted with
approved ABS systems.
When it comes to specifying ABS equipment for your vehicles, Haldex is
unquestionably the safest choice of all. Pioneers in the field and a market
leader, Haldex sets the standards of excellence and innovation in ABS
technology.
Total Braking Assurance
DGX is the product of many years’ development, combining the well proven
Haldex memory controlled relay valve and advanced microprocessor
technology. The result is an ABS system unsurpassed in performance and
reliability.
The safety benefits are truly significant. DGX minimises stopping distances
and prevents jack-knifing, loss of steering control and maintains stability in
both articulated and rigid vehicles. Above all it provides ultra safe braking
even on split-friction road surfaces.
Cost Efficient
As well as bringing peace of mind to
drivers, DGX also pays dividends to
the operator. Greatly improved
vehicle handling means fewer accident
repair bills and insurance claims.
While the elimination of wheel-lock
naturally brings much longer tyre life.

Outstanding Reputation
Haldex has an impeccable pedigree in the automotive industry. In 1998 Haldex
acquired Midland-Grau which was formed from four highly respected
companies in the air brake industry. These four companies merged and pooled
their resources to provide an unrivalled product range and level of service to
truck and trailer manufacturers, operators and repairers.
The companies were Graubremse of Germany, a major air brake and air
suspension control supplier to Europe’s principal truck manufacturers; Berg of
Britain, a prominent supplier of original equipment for most UK and
continental trailer manufacturers and the air brakes controls division of Lucas
Girling, market leader in the development and manufacture of commercial
vehicle ABS, and Midland Inc., a leading US supplier of O.E. and after-market
truck and trailer components.

How the System
Operates
DGX is a four channel anti-lock
system designed to operate on
powered vehicles.
The speed of each sensed wheel is
determined via sensors and hub
mounted exciters. These inputs are
fed to an ECU where two microprocessors cross check the
information and generate a vehicle
reference speed, which is used to
monitor the speed of individual
wheels. When the vehicle brakes are
applied, the electronic Control Unit
(ECU) immediately detects any
impending wheel-lock condition
and sends a signal to the Skid
Pressure Sensitive valve (SPS) to
reduce the braking pressure of the
wheel or wheels concerned.
Following the initial ABS cycle, the
SPS valve is continually updated
with a memory pressure, which
relates to the pressure at which the
previous wheel-lock started to
occur. The SPS valve uses this
information to provide a two stage
re-apply. Initially, braking pressure is
increased rapidly (fast re-apply) to a
level just below wheel-lock (the
memory pressure), at which point
the brake pressure increase is
restricted (slow re-apply) to avoid
overshoot and optimise braking
adhesion. This is repeated many
times a second, ensuring smoothly
applied maximum braking and linear
tyre adhesion down to 5kph or less.

These diagrams show the 3 most common consequences of wheel-lock caused
by over-braking: jack-knifing, loss of steering control and rigid vehicle spin.
Total Control on Split-Friction Surfaces
Oil patches, ice, rain and rubber from tyres on the road surface create
split-friction conditions which present a dangerous emergency braking
hazard even on straight roads. This is where DGX comes into its own.
Because each wheel is controlled independently, braking is as smooth and
controlled as if on a perfect road surface. The modified front axle control
provided by DGX ensures smooth and controllable steering during
braking on split-friction surfaces.
Dual Safety System
At the heart of the DGX system is
the ECU, which continuously monitors individual wheel speeds and so
controls dangerous braking situations.
To make doubly sure of correct
information, the ECU contains two
advanced microprocessors,
whichsimultaneously check and cross
check data to ensure maximum system
integrity and operational reliability.
Unique On-Board Diagnostics
Unrivalled reliability has been designed into the DGX system from the very start, DGX features a solid state
ECU and a minimum number of moving parts.
To maintain the system at optimum performance, Haldex provides a unique low cost, on-board Diagnostic
Display Unit (DDU). It simply plugs into a special socket in the cab to check system functions and gives accurate
and fast diagnoses, in the unlikely event of any failures. Costly downtime caused by long hours of fault finding
through trial and error is a thing of the past.
