A
recent seminar based on sur veys of
shopping preferences and purchasing
expectations has revealed a number of
jeweller y trends in the US.
"Directly asking the consumer to respond
to key industr y ideas and trends is the only
way to truly understand the future of the
jewellery business."
Findings showed that nearly 30 per cent of
consumers give fine jewellery as a gift and
earrings, necklaces and rings were the most
likely gif ts bought.
In addition yellow gold proved more
popular than white with nearly half set to
purchase yellow gold jeweller y and 27 per
cent opting for white gold.
Men's results showed that nearly 75 per
cent of the men surveyed wear jewellery
and their top jeweller y choices are a watch,
ring, necklace and chains.
Brooches
A l r e a d y a h i t t h r o u g h s u m m e r, b r o o c h e s
continue to be fashion essentials for this
season. Any style of brooch will do,
although vintage-looking gems will
probably be more versatile with this
season's fashion trends.
glamour has made a comeback this season,
with lots of chunky vintage jewellery
pieces, chandelier earrings and cascading
necklaces. Expect to wear lots of diamanté
and multi-coloured sparkly gems for a look
that's all about retro elegance.
How to wear them: with confidence. Per fect
with this season's floor-length, fleshexposing dresses, or incorporate elements
of Hollywood glamour into your daywear by
wearing a chunky aquamarine ring or
sparkly brooch with your tweed work suit
or even a cashmere sweater and jeans.

Hepburn moment (yes, again…). Expect to
see shops dripping with pearls everything
from long strandy necklaces, band
bracelets and delicate earrings. If you're
feeling rich or just like window -shopping.

season, unless you want to look as though
you've stepped out of a pre-war time warp.
L ong and multi-strand necklaces look great
with pencil skirt and twinset (cardi cinched
at waist with a narrow belt) or over a
Bloomsbur y -style dress. P resentation really

Why the name
Blue Lotus?
The mysterious and the sacred Blue L otus
has been considered, through the ages, as a
symbol of the Universe.
It is believed that the entire Cosmos was
born out of the womb of the Blue Lotus.
L egend has it that the lake of P ushkar in
Rajasthan was filled with thousands of

believed that when God descended on the

What is the
meaning of
the 'star' logo?
The logo of Blue Lotus is born out of two
diamonds. One straight and one inverted.
The moment these two diamonds overlap
o n e a c h o t h e r, s i x s m a l l d i a m o n d s a r e
created, as if by magic.
So the logo also stands for creation.
Creation of infinite ideas.

Since we believe we are not in the jeweller y business but in the gif ting business, our
idea was to study the kind of gif ts consumers would like to receive.
Through Octane Communications, we did an elaborate sur vey of the market to
understand the likes and dislikes and design preferences while chosing a gif t.
E v e r y d e s i g n w e h a v e c r e a t e d i s b a s e d o n t h i s c o n s u m e r s u r v e y. A n d t h i s p r o c e s s i s
ongoing. The second and the third collections we have brought out were based on
the consumer feedback we got for the first collection.
What are the
consumers' expectations from
the Blue Lotus brand?
The consumer would want this brand to
reflect their everchanging needs. So Blue
L otus promises to keep pace with the
everchanging tastes of this everchanging
c o n s u m e r. W h e t h e r i t ' s r i n g s , p e n d a n t s ,
tops, necklaces, bracelets or kadas.

B l u e L o t u s I m a g e s a n d t h e Re t a i l e r ' s n a m e .
Blue Lotus, for example is crafted in 750
fine gold, and is hallmarked and certified
by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
Then there were a Series of Banners in Flex
w h i c h d i d t h e s a m e t o w o o t h e c u s t o m e r.
And every item of Blue Lotus comes with a
Lifetime Guarantee.
With these eye-catching 'advertisements'
the customer was drawn in.
Once the customer entered the store, there
was a visual feast in the store.
There are brochures displaying the entire
range of Blue Lotus.
And the 'real' jeweller y beckoned the
consumer in a never-before acr ylic display
unit where blue triangle was the visual
theme.
Once the consumer chose a piece of Blue
L otus, it was packaged in a transparent
acr ylic box in a paper carton with lotus
images.
This was accompanied by the Lifetime
Guarantee Card and a Special Greeting
Card.
All this was given away to the thrilled
consumer in a beautiful carry bag!
W ith so much of merchandising, it became
easier for the retailer to sell Blue L otus,
and the satisfied customers kept coming
back for more. And their word of mouth
brought in newer and newer customers!
No wonder we have over 200 retailers in
Mumbai alone, and the list is getting longer
by the day!

T h e p r i v i l e g e s , w h i c h t h e m e m b e r s e n j o y,
keep increasing.
Why did we create
a new brand
in jewellery?
T h o u g h t h e r e a r e a f e w b r a n d s i n j e w e l l e r y,
none of them were created for gif ting.
Survey after survey we did among the
consumers revealed that 90% of them buy
jewellery as gifts. Either as gifts for
o t h e r s , o r a s g i f t s f o r o n e s e l f. B u t t h e r e
was not a single brand created for the sole
purpose of gifting.
So Blue L otus was created specifically for
this target audience, hence our slogan,
'Gif ts Forever'.
For close to 4 years, it was the passionate
dream of our founder P raveen Jain to create
a meaningful brand and sell it directly to
t h e c o n s u m e r s . To d a y, i t ' s a d r e a m c o m e
true.
A s o f n o w, w e h a v e p e r s o n a l i z e d i s s u e s o f
the Art of Jewellery Magazine sent to each
of the members.
Through SMS the members have been
receiving the P rice of Gold, on a daily
b a s i s , d a y a f t e r d a y. T h i s h a s g o n e a l o n g
way in helping the retailer plan his
purchase almost on an hourly basis.
Many gif ts have been sent to them, like
personalized key chains and pens.
We h a d m a d e a r r a n g e m e n t s t o p r o c u r e
passes for the last IIJS exhibition. And have
done that for the 2006 exhibition too.
More activities and gif ts are in the
pipeline, and the next year promises to be
a year of tremendous growth for ever yone
associated with Blue Lotus!
