ABOUT MODA
The Malaysian Official Designers Association (MODA) is a not-for-profit association of
Malaysia’s foremost fashion designers’ founded in 1990. Under its aegis, MODA will
represent the interests of fashion professionals. It will nurture the growth of this industry,
help develop the needs of the industry, and provide a platform for Malaysian fashion
professionals. The main objective of MODA, which has established itself as the apex body
in the field of fashion design in Malaysia, is the development and growth of the fashion
industry.
People in the fashion industry : Designers, Retailers, Stylist, Wholesalers, Buyers, Fashion
Students, Merchandisers and Related industry practitioner.
Our Industry is becoming more and more innovative. As a creative nation, Malaysia has to
constantly reinvent ourselves so that we’re not left behind in this race for global talents and
investments. In this competitive context, it is vital for us to offer a unique opportunity to our younger
generation; who are the catalysts for creative innovation. Our young minds will play a vital role, by
creating inspiring urban landscapes that makes it possible for us to anchor, allow and devise vital
roles for these scarce talents.
The Malaysian consumer buys fashion as a way to innovate and express one newfound success.
All segments of the population, regardless of social condition, want to look and feel good. MODA
definitely recognizes innovation as ways to drive our consumers towards the right direction and I
am personally delighted to drive this alongside my fashion colleagues at this year’s edition of
MODA UNITY Showcase – marking 22nd glorious years since our inception.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to celebrate this cause with us. It pleases me to see
MODA UNITY offering our youths the platform to showcase their talents, innovative ideas and free
enterprise. Youth-inspired innovation can ignite progress for our country and what better way to do
this by driving cutting edge social innovations in this day and age.
Our humble effort to do something meaningful for the fashion industry can only be made possible
with the co-operation for many generous corporate citizens. Together with an enviable group
comprising our presenter SAMSUNG and fellow partners; Pavilion KL , Redken, Shu Uemura,
Belvedere Vodka, Delicious Group, Heineken, Body Perfect, Bravo Events and Zouk KL. We are
grateful for your uncompromising generosity that has built major in-roads in our progress. Such
creative collaboration is testament to the type of commitment you aspire to conceive, believe
and achieve. For that I must thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
It is paradoxical that even as we celebrate MODA UNITY, celebrating innovation and creativity,
such subjects have, in the majority of Malaysian institutions, been devalued in status, and funding
is often the first to be cut in times of budgetary constraints. We should see a wide range of
experiences in everything we do and for that we are very grateful with our current support and
sincerely look forward to drive our cause to greater heights. Here’s to good health and wonderful insights from us to you.
The aims of MODA are to provide a platform for Malaysian designers with the aim of
promoting Malaysian made Fashion wear in an International arena, to address the
changing needs of the industry as and when they evolve and to foster growth of the
Malaysian Fashion Industry with support from various corporate sectors.
