Coach Jones Notes...
I first want to thank all of
you who came out to our
open practice and scrimmage to support your 2013
-14 LSU Tigers. We truly
appreciate your enthusiasm for this basketball program. It was great visiting
with all of you at the dinner
and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
We are just a few days
away from our exhibition
game on Wednesday, November 6th. Our players
and staff are looking forward to the challenges
ahead with our upcoming schedule! These first few
games are a great opportunity for us coaches to get
a feel for how well our players perform when the
lights come on. Our veterans have done a great job
of setting an example for the younger guys in practice this past month and it is obvious that the players
are buying in to the system.
I encourage you all to come out and support your Tigers next Wednesday, November 6th. It is your passion that makes us work harder. Thank you and
Geaux Tigers!

Basketball Block Party &
Halloween BOOzar
In late October, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams hosted a student block party along with the
Tiger Girls. The event gives students the opportunity
to mingle with the athletes. Coach Jones and Coach
Caldwell handed out schedule cards to students passing through and had a chance to visit with them about
the upcoming season. Popcorn and drinks were given
out to students who stopped by to challenge some of
the athletes in a game of horse or a quick game of oneon-one.
A few days later on Sunday, October 27th, the team
participated in the annual Halloween BOOzar. It was
an afternoon of safe trick-or-treating, interactive games
and fun for kids around the area. Besides the games
and candy, the children and their families were able to
meet athletes and coaches from every sport. Costumes
ranged from the usual witches and goblins to princesses and superheroes. There were countless children
there and the afternoon was full of
harmless enjoyment from the
smallest child to the highest coach
making it another successful year.

NEWSLETTER
A crowd of over 1,100 turned out to watch the LSU
men’s and women’s basketball teams tip off the season
with the inaugural “Bayou Madness” that featured dramatic introductions, a three-point and dunk contest
and an autograph session on Thursday night in the
Maravich Center.
Both teams were introduced by class in a smoke and LED lighting show, while
coaches Nikki Caldwell and Johnny Jones made dramatic
entrances into the arena. Caldwell, an avid motorcycle rider for her Cruisin’ for a Cause breast cancer awareness
foundation, rode into the Maravich Center on a Harley
bike.
Meanwhile, a video of Jones’ game-clinching winner
against Florida in 1984 played on the video board as the
second-year Tiger head coach
rode into the arena in a Delorean car featured in the movie “Back to the Future.” Jones
stepped out of the vehicle to a standing ovation while
wearing a lab coat and glasses.
“We have got to get this place back like it used to be,”
Jones told the crowd. “We have got to have it rocking. We
have got to have the Deaf
Dome. Tell your friends, you
won’t want to miss this.”
It was a fun-filled night for the fans and both teams who
came together with one of the most anticipated seasons in
school history just weeks away. Jones and Caldwell
shared their excitement with the fans.
