landscape design for the house
recently featured in the "Bold
Standard" article in the 2016 May
issue of Traditional Home magazine.
The beautifully designed outdoor
space represents the “artful solution”
philosophy of Murphy & Associates.
“Landscaping is the art of the living
outdoor space,” says Owner,
Colleen Murphy.
As a member of a project design team with the architect, interior
designer and project owners, Murphy & Associates applies key
principles of design. Each design element works together creating
spaces that are comfortable, pleasing to the eye and interesting as
the seasons change. Working together ensures that the design will
flow in and out of the structure, while meeting the needs of the
projects owner. Art is visible in the design by the use of materials,
size and shape, texture and color, much like a good painting.
Since 1988, Murphy & Associates has guided each project from
the design phase through the completion of construction. They
manage all the different contractors that can be involved. Seeking

New Member Joins Us from North Pole, Alaska
Directly from Santa Claus House, Nicole
Blizinski, attended her first Chamber
meeting in June. As the former public
relations and marketing coordinator for
Santa Claus House, Nicole spent every
day with Santa and his reindeer. Don't
believe? Give it a Google and you will see!
Nicole, and her two-year-old son and
husband, John, moved back to their
home state, Michigan, after her husband took medical retirement
from the Army. Nicole quickly took a position with Paychex Inc. upon
her return. Nicole said she was excited to take a position with such
an innovative company who care equally about its clients as they
do it's employees. "Being able to take a position with such an ethical
company and provide solutions for clients with employees ranging
from one to thousands, was something I could see myself doing
every day and enjoy it. Paychex is not just a payroll company. We
have a variety of solutions for our clients making us an all in one
solution for any business."
What brought Nicole and her family back? On
June 17, while deployed in Afghanistan, her
husband (a combat medic) was struck by a
200-pound IED while out of the hatch of his
Stryker. He suffered a traumatic brain injury
among other injuries. After multiple surgeries,
rehabilitation, and two years in Alaska through
John & Nicole Blizinski
a med board process, the former combat
medic was medically retired. With a new baby and an uncertain future,
the Blizinski family made their way back to Michigan.
Shortly after their arrival, they were contacted by the Military
Warriors Support Foundation (MWSF), out of Texas, and Citizens
Bank of Michigan. They were chosen as candidates to receive a
mortgage free home due to her husbands Purple Heart. "I
remember thinking, this is like winning the lottery. Could this really
be happening?" On Mother's Day weekend, Nicole, John, and LJ
(Little John), moved into their home provided by the generosity of
MWSF and Citizens Bank.
"Citizens Bank picked us up from my husband's parents in Royal
Oak and drove us to the home in Livonia. We pulled up to a street
lined with hundreds of Citizens Bank employees, our friends, our
family and neighbors. I've never met a more generous group of
people than the employees of Citizens Bank. The president of
Southfield HQ personally planted azaleas in the front of the house.
We are still amazed this happened to us and we couldn’t be more
blessed."
This is a story Nicole is excited to tell. There was a time their family
couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel, but they kept moving
forward despite their difficulties. Nicole is happy to be a part of a
community again and looks forward to providing solutions to the
businesses of the greater Waterford area.

Jackie Buchanan Named in
100 Most Influential Women
Crain’s Detroit Business has named Genisys Credit
Union President and CEO, Jackie Buchanan, one of
the top 100 Most Influential Women in Michigan. “I
am honored to have received this recognition,” said
Buchanan. “I share it with the entire Genisys team
as a sign of the value we are providing to our
members and communities.”
In 1986 Buchanan began her career as an accounts payable clerk
at Parda Federal Credit Union in Rochester, Michigan. In 1991 she
started at Genisys (previously T&C Federal Credit Union) as an
accounting manager. About 7 years later she became the vice
president of Information Technology. In 2008 she became
executive vice president and CIO at Genisys and in 2010, she was
promoted to president and CEO.
"I always loved accounting in high school, and I was always good with
numbers,” she told Crain’s. “I joined and stayed with credit unions
because I love the philosophy of people helping people. We exist only
to help our members, and we are not beholden to stockholders."
Nominations for this award came from Crain’s reporters, editors and
readers. Nominated by an unknown source, Buchanan was
pleasantly surprised to hear she had received this award. She is the
only Credit Union CEO in the state to make the list. When selecting
the Top 100 Most Influential Women, Crain’s looked for proven
leaders from business, academia and from civic, nonprofit and
public policy organizations. Crains’ selections were chosen “inhouse” by top editors and the publisher. Their 100 Most Influential
Women features have been published in 1997, 2002 and 2007. This
was the first year that the award search was statewide.

Launches Bid for Waterford Trustee
I can help Waterford. I moved here from
Bloomfield Twp., over thirteen years ago, love it,
and am troubled by its decline. I have a long
history as an entrepreneur and problem solver. As
an intern for San Diego’s city council, I found cost
savings. As a truck plant supervisor, I was the first
to make the production quota. Working as an
industrial engineer, I helped companies increase
productivity. As a Group Vice President for an industrial corporation,
I worked with management to develop business plans and budgets.
As V.P. of International Sales I developed and executed plans to enter
new markets.
On the U.S. District Export Council, I helped companies throughout
Michigan learn how to export as I also did as founding Chairman of
the Detroit Chamber's International Business Council, and on the
Oakland County Roundtable.
My extensive experience on boards and management will work well
with the board of Trustees to solve problems, manage issues and
develop plans. I've seen how cities and towns, around the world,
have attracted business and residents by creating low cost, minimal
government interfering environments.
I am a common-sense, fiscal conservative who believes a solid
business background is what we need on the Waterford Board of

both in revitalizing the business and residential areas of Waterford.

GOLF TIP OF THE MONTH - CORRECT A SLICE
Step 1- Visualize the target line – the imaginary line from the ball to
the target. Lay a yardstick on the ground parallel to the target line
about 2 to 3 inches above the ball. Align your feet, hips and
shoulders parallel to the target line and yardstick. This means your
left shoulder (for a right-handed golfer) will point "parallel left" of the
target.
Step 2 - Start your backswing by turning your shoulders. Make
sure your club starts straight back along an extension of the target
line. Do not pull the club inside or outside the line with your hands
or arms, but allow the shoulders to bring the club naturally around.
Step 3 - Begin the downswing by transferring your weight to your
left side. Do not start with the upper body. As your hips turn to the
target, allow the shoulders to unwind and swing the club inside
the yardstick. If you hit the yardstick, you have an outside-in path
that can lead to a slice.

Clarkston Receives Program Accreditation
McLaren Oakland Sleep Diagnostic
Center in Clarkston recently received
program accreditation from the American
Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).
“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates McLaren
Oakland Sleep Diagnostic Center on meeting the high standards
required for receiving accreditation as a sleep disorders center,”
said Dr. Nathaniel Watson, AASM President. “McLaren Oakland
Sleep Diagnostic Center is an important resource to the local
medical community and will provide academic and scientific value
in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from
sleep disorders.”
To receive accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must
meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as
designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas
such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures,
data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance. Additionally,
the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans
for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community
it serves.
“We are very proud to receive this outstanding accreditation for our
sleep program,” said Mary O’Connor, D.O. and McLaren Oakland
Sleep Diagnostic Center director. “This accreditation reflects our
commitment to ensure the highest quality care for patients suffering
from sleep disorders.”
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine accredited a sleep
disorders center for the first time in 1977. Today there are more
than 2,500 AASM-accredited sleep centers across the country.
About The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM)
The AASM is a professional medical society for clinicians,
researchers, and other health care providers in the field of sleep
medicine. As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders
centers, the AASM is dedicated to setting standards and promoting

If you want to know what a person's
roots are, then look at the fruits being
produced. This can be used in so many situations including health,
relationships, finances, etc.
Our roots are created by what we’ve been taught growing up and
what we continuously learn from people, media, music, television
and internet. Our roots continue to develop as we go through life.
Our roots determine where we invest our time, energy and money.
These roots produce our fruits; the outcomes in our life.
There is a verse in the Bible, "Blessed is the man who trusts in the
Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by
the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves
remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does
not cease to bear fruit." (Jer. 17:7-8)
Ask yourself, “What are the fruits being produced in your life? Are
you proud of the fruits? Are you excited to be producing these type
of fruits? Or are you unhappy with the roots? Answering these
questions can be a huge challenge. When you identify the fruits
you like you can choose to continue to nurture them. You can also
change those you don't like but realize it may not be a quick fix or
happen in one day. It may take a commitment and a desire to make
a change. I see this daily in the healthcare industry. I am blessed to
care for patients who are seeking answers to their health challenge;
to pain. I offer a solution to correct the cause of the problem by
correcting the misalignments of the spine that are interfering with
the nerve system to function appropriately.
If your roots have instilled the need to care for your spine as you
do your teeth or your body, then you probably already have been
seeking chiropractic care to ensure your spine remains free of
decay. However, if in your roots you have not been taught the
importance of caring for your spine, then you probably have decay
that has set in over the years.
When it comes to health, some people will have roots based in
"quick fixes." They will choose to cover up their symptoms with
medications or just remove the part that is not functioning without
considering the long term effects. The question to ask yourself is,
How is it working for you? Is it producing the quality of life that you
want?
Our roots determine our future and whether our "leaves will remain
green throughout our life.” When it comes to our health, our roots
will determine those retirement years. I choose quality! What do
you choose?

carpet cleaning businesses to help prepare for the big event!
Perhaps you are fortunate enough to live on or near a lake –
remember we have resources to repair or make canvas boat
covers, repair boat interiors; businesses where you can purchase
marine supplies such as docks, boating supplies, water toys, etc.,
and have boats transported and repaired. Whatever your needs,
make it a fabulous summer for you and your family, and make sure
