Greetings
in the name of our risen Savior, Jesus Christ!
The science of clouds and rain is simple: The sun
shines and heats the water. The water evaporates
and rises to form clouds, which produce the rain. The theme for First Baptist
Church of Glenarden in 2014 was “Let it Rain,” based on the Scripture found at
Zechariah 10:1: “Ask the Lord for rain in the time of the latter rain. The Lord will
make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, grass in the field for
everyone.”
It is the process that brings life to earth and works similarly in the spiritual
realm. The Son shines down on us, heats up our lives and creates a lifting force
through the Holy Spirit. Clouds form and then His rain falls onto our lives.
We asked God to send the rain into our lives, knowing that He would use trials
and tribulations as clouds before pouring out His blessings. Amazing things
happened in 2014 – individually and collectively as a church – as the presence
of God shook the unstable air around us.
The sky was clear in Kings 18 when Elijah prophesied about the sound of an
abundance of rain. Know that our Lord and Savior is coming and the flood gates
of heaven will open. We must never lose sight of that fact, even when going
through dry seasons and periods of drought.
We’re not talking about materials things, but instead God’s safety, victory,
deliverance, healing, power and anointing to you and EVERYONE CONNECTED
TO YOU! Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!
With the love of the Lord,
Pastor John and First Lady Trina Jenkins

BEYOND
ANYONE’S
DREAMS
When Pastor John K. Jenkins Sr. was called to First
Baptist Church of Glenarden in December 1989,
there were approximately 500 members. Now,
after a quarter-century of service at his childhood
church, FBCG has 118 ministries, a vibrant
Institutes with seven-days-a-week classes and a
4,000-seat sanctuary that sits on 160 acres.
Those are just a few reasons that folks flocked
to the Worship Center for a special Tuesday night
program, in celebration of Pastor and First Lady
Trina Jenkins’ fruitful tenure at this branch of Zion.
“Sometimes I wonder if I’m going to
wake up one morning and find I’m
not the pastor of First Baptist,”
Pastor Jenkins said. “This experience has been a
dream. “I cannot describe how God has blessed my
life. It brings tears to my eyes.”
He’s not the only one with moist eyes when
reflecting on the countless testimonies, souls
saved and dreams fulfilled. FBCG members joined
him on his special night, “Beyond My Dreams,” with
tears of gratitude and thanksgiving, as well as joy
and laughter.
10
First Lady Trina Jenkins made the program a surprise as much as possible and a teary-eyed Pastor Jenkins was nearly
speechless when it was all over.
The event began with a reception that included some of Pastor Jenkins’ food pleasures, including sliders, chicken fingers,
pizza … and Twinkies!
Some church members demonstrated a new dance – “The Jenkins Shuffle” – with help from the audience as people filled the
aisles and joined in.
Comedians Jonathan Slocumb and Small Fire provoked much laughter, which is one of Pastor Jenkins’ favorite things.
Before closing out the thanksgiving-filled evening, Bishop William S. Murphy III turned it into an instant worship service.

Project Manhood held age-appropriate discussions for younger boys and held its
annual bowling activity for mentors, mentees and their parents.
R.E.B.E.L.S. 4Life Bible Study covered topics such as controlling emotions, seeking
Christ’s help, developing a strong relationship with God and dealing with peer
pressure. There also was a study of 1 Timothy, to better prepare youth for life’s
challenges.
The STAR Ministry brought girls together at FBCG to discuss topics such as
spiritual temperaments and quieting your mind to hear the voice of God in your life.
They also welcomed alumni to share one regret and one accomplishment since
their time with STAR concluded. The end-of-year guest speaker was a ministry
alumna, who described the challenges she faced during her first year at college.
Through her testimony of how God pulled her through rough times, she encouraged
the girls to make Him a priority.
MERGE, a collaborative ministry between Zion Church and FBCG, continued to
grow as a high-energy worship experience for 6th-12th graders. Held weekly on
Friday nights with 250 students on average, it features dramas, a live band, praise
and worship, games, a relevant message and breakout groups. Reverend Jonathan
Queen came aboard as executive director in 2014 to continue the mission, which is
“to see youth changed by Christ and empowered to serve.”
The MERGE retreat, under the supervision of new director and FBCG youth pastor Reverend Jonathan Queen, was
held in North Bay, Md., drawing 320 youths and 150 volunteers.

The year concluded with the 39th

event, held in collaboration with 12

offer expertise to assist
First Baptist Church of
Glenarden in diverse
areas ranging from
finances to photography
to audio-visual to
intercessory prayer.
Switches and sound boards are controlled through the
help of Audio Visual staff and volunteers.
36
The Audio Visual Ministry is always present to broadcast during Sunday services, Bible study and special events.
Staff Ministers and Associate Ministers
continued to address the spiritual
needs of the FBCG family. Among other
things, they took part in countless
consultations, more than 100 hospital
visits and more than 80 homegoing
services.
As the Lord blesses FBCG, the Audit,
Budget and Finance committees attend
to the blessings. They handle the
budget and oversee the allottment of
resources, making sure that business is
handled in decency and order.
The AV Ministry assisted the Seton
Diamonds Club to help teens interested
in fashion and video production. The
teens learned how to set up, produce
and direct a large-scale show. The
ministry mentored the high school
students on responsible spending,
practical approaches to life’s challenges
and embracing their own uniqueness.
Given the challenge of dressing for less
than $25, the students produced the
fashion event “Diamonds Are Forever”
and gained valuable life lessons.
The Magazine Ministry produced
several issues for VISION, with themes
such as “Road to the Cross,” “Faith,
Hope and Love,” “Fruit of the Spirit” and
“Religion vs. Relationship.”
The Photography Ministry consistently
documented FBCG’s events, activities
and outreaches. They were present at
more than 200 events - everything from
SHABACH! Christian Academy’s school
opening to the leadership retreats,
and Pastor Jenkins’ 25th anniversary
celebration, to conferences, banquets
and services.
Members of the Photography Minstry were ready to
aim and shoot during the numerous special events and
concerts held at FBCG in 2014.
