Capture Clinical Images with Haiku
• Open Haiku app on your device and log in with your Epic User ID and
password
Locate Patient
• Navigate to patient chart from the • Navigate to patient chart from

Note about Schedule
• Only the default
(bolded) schedule
from Hyperspace
will display
• To select a default

Hyperspace, rightclick on the
schedule and select
“Default Schedule”
Access Media Capture
• Tap patient name to
open patient chart
• The Patient Summary
appears
• Tap patient photo
field

• Tap the hand
Take a Photograph
• Take the photo
• Adjust zoom and flash settings
to produce the best image
• Tap on Retake to discard the
image and take a new photo
or Use Photo to save the
image to the encounter.
Save the Photograph
• Enter a Description for the image
• Where applicable, specify laterality, body part,
what it is
• e.g., “Left forearm rash”
• Tap Save to save the photo
• Photo will be sent to Hyperspace and attached to
the selected encounter
• Photo is not viewable in Haiku or Canto
• Photo is viewable in Hyperspace
• or tap Cancel (back button in Android) to
discard the photo

Patient Consent
• Always obtain patient consent before photographing and indicate
patient consent in your note

Best Practices for Clinical Images
• Eliminate visual “noise”
• Remove anything distracting from the background
• Have patient remove jewelry and accessories that might divert focus
• Utilize a plain non-reflective blue or green background, if possible
• Label what you are taking a picture of
• Include measurement tapes or other items to indicate size
• Take photos both with and without flash to determine which is best
• Use same settings, where possible, for before and after photos
FYI
• Images are saved to the server and not to the device itself.
• Only one image can be taken and sent to Epic at a time.
• Images taken from a place in Haiku or Canto other than a patient
selected from the Schedule or a Patient List may attach at the Patient
Level or a different type of encounter.
• The Media Manager in Hyperspace an be used to edit image
descriptions and change where in the patient chart the image is
attached.
