MAY 2016 EDITION
BOARD OF ELDERS ADJUST SERVICE TIMES
Lakeside Church had an increase in attendance this past season. With the increase in attendance and the unusual amount of rain this past winter, parking was a challenge. The Board of Elders heard stories of people coming to
worship and leaving as they could not find a parking space. We are thankful for our neighbor “Classic Creations”
for allowing us to use their parking lot. Beginning on October 16th, we will hold three worship services. The
first will be a traditional service at 7:45 a.m. The second will be a contemporary service at 9:00 a.m. The
third service will be a traditional worship service at 10:30. The shift in start times should allow the parking lot
to empty out after each service. We are announcing the change in advance as we will need to change our signage, bulletins and advertising. The summer schedule for 2016 is a contemporary service at 9:15 and a traditional service at 10:30. Both services this summer will be held in the sanctuary. Holy Communion will be offered
at both services on the first and third Sundays of the month.
SUMMER FINANCIAL SITUATION
We have had a good financial season with additional support for the Summer Fund. The only unknown is
when we have a major building expense that would drain our Summer Fund. Hopefully we will be free from
major repairs and please no lighting strikes! The 2016 Summer Fund is always open if you would like to make
a contribution.
MEMORIAL GARDEN
This ministry of our church has been a blessing to many families. The garden receives the earthly cremains of our
members who have expressed the desire to be placed there at their death. The only cost is for the marker and
the number medallion of the place of interment. Please stop by the church office for more information. Thank you
to Ray and Barbara Steinwehe for keeping the records and maintaining the garden. It looks beautiful!

MISSION STATEMENT
“United by the all-embracing love of the Triune
God, our purpose is to know and share
Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and
through the enabling power of the Holy
Spirit become more active, responsible,
caring members of this church, carrying out
our part of His mission.”
SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
Monday—Wednesday
8:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m.
Thursday
8:00 a.m.—2:00 p.m.
Closed on Fridays
Our ushers do a great job! The ushers help our worship in many
ways. From greeting, to collecting the offering and guiding us to the
communion rail they are the best. The Easter attendance was
1,050! The ushers guided so many to have a great worship experience that day. We are now in need of a new Lead Usher and
other ushers to fill out our teams. Please speak to Pastor Winkel
or lead usher Bruce Fenton, (941) 485-8532, if you would be willing
to serve. We will train you!
THANK YOU TO JOE LEHNER
We want to thank our lead trustee, Joe Lehner, for his great service to the ministry at Lakeside Church and Preschool. Many of
you have commented how nice our buildings and grounds are
looking. This and many more out of sight items were accomplished
under his leadership. Joe will finish his service on May 9th. Thank
you Joe for all you have done!
We have begun our summer office schedule. The church
office will be open on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
from 8:00 to 4:00. On Thursday we will open at 8:00 and
close at 2:00. The office is closed on Fridays. The church
has a good telephone system with a lot of information options when you call. There is also a voice mail system for
the staff.
SUMMER CONFIRMATION CLASSES
Confirmation is an opportunity to learn the basics of our Christian faith.
This opportunity will be offered June 13 through 17 for students entering at least the six grade in the fall. Please telephone the church office
at (941) 493-5102 or email the office at [email protected] by
May 15th if you would like to attend.

MUSIC NOTES
Thank you to everyone who helped in the music program this season. It was a
very good year.
Summer is a time for planning the next year. We have begun by scheduling a
few people to present special music at the traditional service during the summer months. Tasha Scott, the Venice Symphony harpist, is bringing her harp
ensemble to play. For those who are in the choir and are here during the summer - Gloria Deo (a choral reading session) will be held in Sarasota on Saturday, August 20. This is a great opportunity to hear choir anthems for the upcoming season, to meet new people, and to enjoy the day with other Lakeside
choir members. Choir resumes on October 12th, so mark your calendars.

Happenings at our Preschool
Summers at the Preschool is a time of continuing education: first aid/CPR
updates for the team, a time of freshening up the building as all the items from
the classrooms are moved into the hallway and the floors are buffed and
waxed. During this time, we continue to provide quality child care and learning
activities for our children.
Effective June 1st, the recycling of cans program will be terminated. This
program was started up a few years ago for the purpose of being able to
provide a bit of spending money for the teachers who attended education
conferences. Over $50 has been collected from the recycled cans.
Continue to keep our families, our teaching team and office team in your
prayers.
Blessings,
Ms. Dorothy

M.S. YOUTH GROUP
Wednesdays, 5:45-6:45 p.m.
The students began their year by attending the FL/GA District Middle School
Youth Gathering that was held at the Lake Yale Baptist Convention Center.
They delivered tokens of love to the LLC Shut-ins and have stepped in where
they have been needed. They have enjoyed learning about who they are in
Christ and being an extension of His love and grace.
H.S. YOUTH GROUP
Wednesdays, 7:00-8:25 p.m.
As the school year comes to an end, students are looking forward to summer fun. Cookouts, beach parties and movie
nights are just a couple of ways we plan to spend a few long summer days. As we look forward to summer fun and relaxation, the students are also planning to continue their visits with the Lakeside Lutheran shut-ins and help with vacation
Bible school, as well as partner with the Lakeside Lutheran Social Concerns committee to host our Annual Summer Picnic on August 21st, immediately following the 10:30 service. Be sure to mark your calendars and look for additional information in the bulletins. We look forward to seeing you there.
The LLC youth will continue to meet at church in the Childrens and Youth
building through the end of June. During July and August the students
have numerous activities they will be involved in and our weekly fellowship
will be off site. If you are connected to Facebook, check out the youth
page, our user name is facebook.com/LLCYouth or contact Claudia for
additional information or schedule of events, (941) 468-7721.
