Boys Varsity Lacrosse Wins “Down to the Wire”
Game Versus Neighborhood Foe, Eastern
CAL Varsity Baseball Wins
First District Game
Friday evening brought
perfect
weather as
boys’ varsity
lacrosse traveled to nearby foe, Eastern High
School Eagles for the final district game of the regular season.
A win against Eastern would secure the number one seed and
a first round bye in the District Tournament, leading to the
state playoffs.
(continued on next page)
The CAL varsity
baseball Centurions
won two of three
games last week, including their first district game of the
year, an 8-2 win over
Kentucky Country
Day. They also
sandwiched a 7-1 win over Atherton around a 6-1 loss to #1
state ranked Central Hardin.
CAL started their week by improving their district record to 1
-0 when they defeated KCD on Tuesday. KCD scored the
game’s first two runs with single tallies in both the first and
second innings to take a 2-0 lead. (continued on pg. 3)

Busy Week for Centurion Softball
The past week was busy
for the Lady Centurions,
with two mid-week
games and a tournament.
To start the week, CAL
hosted Eastern for the
first district game of the
season.
Hadley Trenaman Signs to Play
Volleyball at Transylvania University
The Eagles marked
quickly, scoring 2 runs
on 3 hits and an error in
the 1st inning, and 2 more
runs in the 2nd. For CAL,
Sarah Ratterman and
Elizabeth Ashley were both stranded after singling in the 1st,
and Lynley Clay and Hannah Howes were left on base after
being walked in the 2nd. (continued on pg. 5)
(page 8)
This night saw the return of senior David Franke for limited play. Big Dave suffered a hamstring tear in the
first game of the season against the South Oldham Dragons. On the other hand, the team would continue to
be without veteran goalie, junior Jacob Spencer who will miss the remainder of the season. Spencer shattered a bone in
his thumb when stopping a shot on goal earlier in the year. The team would be in the very capable hands of sophomore
goalie Andrew Barbour, who has already helped lead the Centurions to victory over tough district competitor Kentucky
Country Day in the first game following the injury to Spencer.
Eastern is always a scrappy, physical team and Friday night was no exception. The contest remained close throughout
the game, trading goals back and forth for all four periods. A two goal lead for the Centurions at half-time was quickly
overcome by the Eagles during the third quarter. However, with excellent ball movement and solid defensive play
down the stretch the Centurions prevailed 13-12 as junior midfielder Cade Sparrow buried the ball in the net for the go
ahead goal with under a minute remaining.
Sparrow and sophomore attackman Jackson Donovan led the scoring with three goals each. Senior Holton Durenburger and sophomore Caleb Anderson both contributed two while seniors Jack Gilbert and David Franke and freshman Kaden Weiter added a goal apiece.
Though a high scoring contest, the defense responded and Barbour finished the game with eight saves in goal to maintain the margin of victory.
Having earned the number one seed and a first round bye for the District Tournament, on Thursday May 12th the Centurions will face the winner of Eastern and KCD from the first round. But, before they can think about Districts and
the state tournament, boys’ lacrosse will play two home games this week to close out the regular season.
The Shamrocks of Trinity pull in to Christian Academy this Tuesday April 26. We’ll need a large contingent of students and parents to make sure our fans are the loudest as we cheer our team to victory. Finally, Lexington Tates
Creek makes the trip to Louisville on Friday April 29.
Friday evening will be Senior Night. At half-time, Centurion lacrosse will honor six seniors, each one of whom has
spent seven seasons playing in the red, white and blue uniforms of the Christian Academy lacrosse program. Come
honor these devoted student athletes and cheer the team to a big win against Tates Creek!

On Friday, CAL traveled to Elizabethtown to take on #1 ranked
Central Hardin where they lost, 6-1. Central Hardin scored once in
the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. CAL tied the game
in the top of the third inning when Paul Haupt walked with one
out. He stole second base and advanced to third base on an errant
pickoff throw by the pitcher. He scored on Garrett McIntire’s
ground out to give CAL their only run of the game. Central Hardin
scored four times in the fifth inning to seal the game.
CAL had three hits in the game, all singles by Paul Haupt, Aaron

was then balked to third base. Grant Harmon drew a walk with both runners advancing and Sexton scoring
on Casey Brown’s safety squeeze sacrifice bunt. Paul Haupt singled to leftfield to score Harmon and Haupt
later scored on Blake Carlisle’s single to centerfield, giving CAL a 4-0 lead. (continued on next page)

Atherton scored once in the third to cut the lead to 4-1 and
the score remained that way until CAL scored three more
times in the seventh inning. Paul Haupt walked to start the
inning and stole both second and third bases. Garrett McIntire walked and advanced to second base on a passed
ball. Haupt scored on Blake Carlisle’s bunt single and
McIntire scored on an error on the same play. Carlisle
scored on Aaron Blake’s bunt single to score the game’s
final run.
Blake Carlisle had two singles for CAL and Paul Haupt,
Garrett McIntire, Luke Price, Aaron Blake, and Cameron
Marshall all had one single apiece. Paul Haupt and Blake Carlisle both stole four bases in the game. Hunter
Myers, Dylan Sexton, and Garrett McIntire all stole bases. Luke Price, Casey Brown, Aaron Blake, and Addison Skarski all had sacrifices. Aaron Blake pitched five innings to earn the win for CAL and Luke Price
closed the game with two innings of relief. The defense provided double plays in each of the last two innings.
CAL’s record is now 12-9 before taking on a busy week
playing against several ranked teams. CAL will host
Christian Academy Indiana on Monday at 5:30 and then
play a home district game against ranked Ballard on Tuesday at 5:00. CAL will host several Louisville Invitational
Tournament games over the weekend, all against teams
ranked in the top 20 of Kentucky. CAL plays Lexington

The Centurions scored a run in the 4th after Caroline
LeFan and Clay singled and Sam Marshall drove in
a run. Eastern pushed another run across the plate in the 6th.
The Centurions left Loren Simpson, Clay, and LeFan stranded
in the next 3 innings. Final score 5-1 Eastern.
Thursday, CAL faced Southern at home. The Trojans scored
2 runs in the 1st on 3 hits, and the Centurions put 3 runs on the
board when Ashley doubled, Simpson tripled, and Howes tripled. Southern was held scoreless for the remainder of the
game, while CAL added 9 more runs on hits by Kayla Chapman (2), Ashley (2), Simpson, and Elly Harshfield, a double by Sam Thompson, and another triple by Simpson. LeFan struck out 7 for CAL. Final score 12-2 CAL.
CAL traveled to Frankfort on Friday to face North Laurel in tournament play. The first inning looked promising, as the Centurions loaded the bases on a Ratterman double, Ashley single, and Simpson walk, but CAL
was unable to score. North Laurel scored 2 runs in the 1st, and added another run in the 3rd, making the score
3-0. CAL scored 2 runs in the 5th on hits by Ratterman and Simpson and a two-run double by Thompson,
and tied up the game 3-3 after 6 when Ratterman hit an RBI-double, scoring Riley Sexton, who also doubled.
In the last inning, the Centurions went ahead 4-3, after Simpson led off with a triple and scored on a RBIsingle by LeFan. North Laurel did not quit, and scored 2 runs on a walk, triple, and squeeze play to end the
game. Final score 5-4 North Laurel.
On Saturday, CAL took on Henry Clay. Howes had the
first hit for CAL, with a single, and scored on a hit by
LeFan. Henry Clay scored a run as well in the 1st, and
added 4 in the 2nd on 3 hits, 2 walks, and an error. In the
3rd, Howes hit one out of the park, Simpson tripled, and
Thompson doubled, scoring 2 more runs for the Centurions. Henry Clay answered with 2 runs on 2 hits, a walk,
and an error, bringing the score to 7-3 Henry Clay. Ashton Edwards led off the 7th inning with a single, and
scored on a two-run triple for Simpson, but it wasn’t
enough. Final score 7-5 Henry Clay.
The Centurions then faced Shelby County. The Rocket bats were hot, scoring 9 runs in the first 4 innings,
while CAL struggled, stranding Thompson in the 2nd after she hit a double, and scoring only 1 run in the 4th
on hits by Howes, LeFan and Sexton. Shelby scored another 2 runs in the 6th. Final score 11-1 Shelby Co.

TOP PERFORMANCES ABOUND FOR CENTURION TRACK & FIELD
The Centurion Track & Field Teams had some spectacular performances while competing in two large invitationals this week. The
first was the 16-team Walden Clash of the Classes. Clara Lynch and
Maddie O'Dea showed why they already have multiple All-State honors to their credit, as both pulled off wins. Clara simply ran away
from the 3200 field to win by over 200 meters. Maddie used very
different tactics, but with the same results, coming out on top of a
back and forth homestretch
battle to take victory in the
800. Steven Ott ran to a big win in the 3200, in a new PR of
10:19.34. Steven then joined Charles Austin Sams, Jacob Miller
and Tanner Palin to bring home the gold in the 4x400 relay, in a
team season's best time of 3:46.44. Others medaling in the meets
were Adelaide Ensor (1600), Sarah Chastain (triple jump), Joel
Shelton (shot & discus) and the 4x800 relay team of Ott, Miller,
Samuel Hazelip & Jack-Harold Enyeart.
On Friday evening, the team competed in the 20-team Louisville Premier Classic at Assumption. Maddie O'Dea lowered her own school record in the 400, with a time of 1:00.98, to grab the silver. Clara Lynch
matched Maddie as the highest placing Centurions in the very competitive meet, taking 2nd in the mile in a new PR of 5:21.29. That time is
currently 9th fastest in the State and if it holds up, will qualify Clara for
the Dream Mile - an elite event where only the 16 fastest boys and girls
in the state are invited to run. Also placing individually for the girls
were: Sarah Chastain in the triple jump and Libby Gould & Taylor
Moon both in the long jump. Three relay teams scored: the 4x800 (Jessica Bozell, Chastain, Kilie Morgan &
Adelaide Ensor), the 4x200 (Anna Kimbell, Bozell,O'Dea & Maya Wright) and the 4x400 (Kimbell, Julianna
Sabbak).
Steven Ott had the highest placing spots for the Centurions, taking 4th in the mile in his fastest time ever - 4:40.81 and then
joined Charles Austin Sams, Jacob Miller & Tanner Palin to
match that place in the 4x400 relay. Tanner Reiser replaced Ott
in the foursome, to finish 5th in the 4x100. Others placing individually for the boys were: Joel Shelton in both the shot put &
discus, Luke Montgomery in the 200, Sams in the high jump and
two in the pole vault - John Bozell and Isaac Yoho.
Next weekend the team will compete in one of the largest and
most competitive meets in this part of the country - the Eastern
Relays. Over 160 teams, from 12 different states, converge on the
University of Louisville track for the two day event.

Congratulations to senior, Hadley Trenaman, signed a letter
of intent to play volleyball at Transylvania University.
Trenaman chose Transylvania for its location, academics and volleyball program.
“I love Lexington and it is close to home. Transylvania is very strong
academically, and I love the small school community…plus the volleyball coaches are awesome!” said Trenaman.
“Hadley was a work horse for this year’s team. She has such a desire to get better at everything she does and
works toward that goal at all costs. It has been fun watching her develop into the player she is today,” said
CAL head volleyball coach, Patty Ernst.
CAL Sports Performance head coach, Greg Lile, echoed
Coach Ernst’s praise of Hadley’s work ethic.
“Hadley has put hours of hard work into becoming a collegiate athlete. I’m so proud of her,” said Coach Lile.
“This day has been a long time coming…all the way back to
intramural volleyball. Hadley has always been driven and
has always wanted to win. She has worked so hard at every
sport she’s ever played,” said Hadley’s dad, Tracy Trenaman.
Hadley also played basketball and soccer and has been playing
volleyball since the second grade. She was awarded the CAL
Coaches Award (2014-15), as well as named All-District (2015
-16) and Defensive Player of the Year (2015-16).
Hadley’s older brother Hunter, who is a CAL graduate, congratulated Hadley on all her hard work and accomplishments.
“I am so proud of Hadley. It’s fun to be back here at CAL to
celebrate her athletic achievements,” said Hunter.
Hadley ended the signing ceremony by thanking her coaches,
teammates and parents for their support in helping her continue
her volleyball career at the next level. She is undecided in her
major and looks forward to playing for the Pioneers next fall.

CAL 2 Sacred Heart 16
After not playing a game for 22 days due to spring break and the senior trip to California, CAL faced a very tough opponent, last
year’s state runner up Sacred Heart, on a rainy, muddy Thursday at the Braveheart Tournament. The girls were a little rusty after
the long layoff, and turnovers hampered them all night. After fighting hard CAL succumbed to Sacred Heart’s strong squad 16-2.
Senior Goalie Lydia Clay was a tremendous bright spot in the game, posting 11 incredible saves while facing a barrage of 32 shots!
Lydia r eally played outstanding, batting away shot after shot, and vir tually single-handedly keeping CAL in the game, especially throughout the first half. Sydney Jarm led the defense with 2 caused turnovers (including a stellar mid-air interception) and
a ground ball. Also on defense, Allie Head added 2 ground balls while Kelsey Koetsier and Annie Becker each had one. Senior
Dana Joss led the scor ing with 2 goals. Senior Ashley Semak took most of the center dr aws, filling in admir ably at midfield
for the still injured senior Allison Edlin. Ashley won 2 of those dr aws, while Dana collected 5 and Nina Dobbs secur ed 2.
CAL 7 Manual 4
A staunch defensive effort led to the CAL girls’ lacrosse program’s first victory ever over Manual 7-4 on Friday. The stingy defense only allowed 8 shots all night, and goalie Lydia Clay saved 3 of those! Sydney Jarm had another stellar performance with 2
ground balls and 3 caused turnovers! Kelsey Koetsier had a game high 4 ground balls. Possession was paramount to the victory
and CAL collected 8 of the 12 center draws, a whopping 67%! Dana Joss had 4, Kaitlyn Semak had 2 while Ashley Semak and
Nina Dobbs each added one.
CAL was down 4-3 at the half, but the defense stepped up to hold Manual scoreless the entire second half. With the score tied 4-4
and less than 8 minutes to go, Dana hit Ashley on a pass which she promptly zipped into the net for what amounted to the winning
goal in the end. Nina scored a goal late in the game to put the icing on it. Dana led scoring with 3 goals and an assist. Nina and
Ashley had 2 goals and 1 assist each. Sloan Reding made a nice play in the fir st half wher e she caused a tur nover , picked
up the ground ball, and whipped an assist pass into Nina for a score.
CAL 5 Ballard 7
CAL fell 7-5 to Ballard Saturday in an extremely close match that could have gone either way. CAL led 3-2 at the half, and had
yet another impressive defensive game. Sydney Jarm led the way defensively with 2 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers. Annie
Becker had 1 gr ound ball pickup and 2 caused tur nover s. Kelsey Koetsier had 2 gr ound balls and Nina Dobbs added 3
more. Goalie Lydia Clay had 2 saves, bringing her season save total up to 60! In addition, the team collected 50% of all the center
draws, with Dana Joss garnering 5 and Nina 2.
With just a few minutes left in the game and CAL behind 6-5 Maddie Brock sprinted faster than the wind downfield and fired in a
shot to even the score! Unfortunately, the goal was disallowed for a crease violation. CAL still fought furiously for the tie, forcing
a couple of timely turnovers. Morgan Miller picked up a key ground ball in traffic right at the CAL offensive restraining line. But,
the girls just could not stuff a shot into goal as hard as they tried. Ashley Semak led the scoring with 1 goal and 1 assist (2 points),
while Dana, Nina, and Kaitlyn Semak had 1 goal each. Sloan Reding had an assist.
CAL 3 Eastern 11 (tournament semi-finals)
CAL finished the four-day Braveheart Tournament with an 11-3 loss to Eastern. Eastern outdueled CAL for draw controls most of
the game which kept the ball out of our offense’s hands and put heavy pressure on our defense. Nina Dobbs had 2 goals and Tyra
Baxter made her second goal of the season on a beautiful fr ee position shot. Dana Joss had an assist on one of Nina’s
makes. Dana led the defensive effort with 6 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers. Ashley Semak caused 2 turnovers and had one
ground ball pickup. The experience of these four tough games this weekend will prepare CAL’s team well for the District Tournament which begins May 16th.
The team will regroup and prepare for a big week with two home games. Next up is Collins at CAL on Tuesday at 6pm.
Then, Oldham County comes to CAL Friday, April 29 th, for a 6pm game. Come out and cheer the team!

ALLISON FOSTER NAMED A SCHUTT/NFCA NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR FINALIST
Bellarmine University’s Ally Foster has been named as one of 25 finalists
for the 2016 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Player of the Year
Award.
Voting will take place over the next couple of weeks, and the top 10 finalists will be announced on May 6, the top three on May 12 and the overall
winner on May 16.
Foster is re-writing the Bellarmine softball record book as a pitcher and a
hitter. In the circle, she is BU’s all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, and
shutouts. As a batter, she is BU’s career leader in home runs, doubles and runs scored, and she is on track to break the career RBI

ERA, opposing batting average, strikeouts and wins.
Against GLVC competition this season, the Louisville native is hitting .489 with a 1.222 slugging percentage, and as a pitcher
sports a 1.26 ERA while batters are hitting just .198 against her.
The top 25 list also includes Great Lakes Valley Conference players Morgan Foley (UIndy), Haley Hodges (USI), and Hannah
Perryman (UMSL).
