Member In The News
Dear Member,
It’s hard to believe that another season is coming to a close.
Many members are leaving for summer homes and extended
vacations. The past 6 months have certainly been a difficult
time for people everywhere, but hopefully your friends and
neighbors at Broken Sound have made it more enjoyable and
less stressful for all.
Management
continues to meet and exceed
expectations for our members while
maintaining the most cost efficient
operation we can. Through their efforts
we have been able to have minimal dues
increases for the past 2 years. This is
even more significant in light of the
increases at other clubs in the area. As
soon as the depth of the economic
problems became apparent, the Board
of Governors moved quickly to help by
changing the dues payment schedule
from four payments to ten spread over
the year. We also eliminated the capital
replacement assessment which is typically
charged in January. Based on your
feedback, these decisions made a
difference.
Members’ usage and enjoyment of our
club is at an all time high. Our golf courses
were in wonderful shape throughout the
season and golf play has increased. The
PGA Professionals who were here for the
Allianz Championship tournament praised
the course as well as our food and
hospitality. Approximately 65,000
spectators visited the Old Course during
the event with millions more getting a good
look at Broken Sound through the Golf
Channel broadcast.
Our Tennis program once again was a
great success (see pg.10). All of our
dining venues were very busy, not
surprising when you consider the value
offered in food and service compared to
local restaurants. Mondays at the Pool
Bar and “casual” Thursdays at Centre
Court Café have both become a huge
success. Management is already hard at

work on next year’s budget, and our goals
remain consistent – to offer our members
the same high quality service in all areas
of the club without a significant increase
in dues. Reclaimed water has started
flowing to the Old Course and should be
available for the front entrance and Club
Course before the end of the year.
Our annual election for the Board of
Governors was just held. I am very pleased
that we will have the same Board in place
for the coming year. I consider the fact
that no one other than the incumbents
chose to run a sign that members are
pleased with the way that club affairs are
conducted and the direction in which we
are headed. However, it is important to
develop new leadership for Broken Sound
to continue our growth into the future. If
you would like to know what’s involved in
serving on the Board, please feel free to
get in touch with me or any Board
member.
I would also like to take this opportunity to
thank, not only the Board members, but
everyone who diligently serves on the
various committees of this club. Without
their time, effort and expertise we would
not have the club we have today. At times
this can be a thankless job and I want to
acknowledge their efforts and let them
know that we all appreciate their
contributions to Broken Sound.
Our best wishes for a healthy and happy
summer wherever you may be.

Board of Governors

Departing October 23, 2009
Autumn is glorious in Canada and New England. The sun still shines on the Eastern
Seaboard’s many seafaring towns and the cool fall air turns the foliage
a dazzling crimson and gold. A trip to Canada and New England uncovers the history
and character that started a nation. See the quaint Colonial charm of New England
towns and the spectacular Canadian coastline.

The real winner was Charity!
On February 26, 2009, A Charity Challenge ran its
inaugural event at Broken Sound Club. Golf
was enjoyed on both courses and the evening
included both a silent and live auction in
addition to a fabulous buffet dinner. Our
Monopoly Game, which began on January 15,
concluded that day as well.

A Charity Challenge raised funds for Arnie’s Army,
to battle Prostate Cancer, and Play For P.I.N.K.
for Breast Cancer Research. Through the
generosity of the members of Broken Sound
Club, we were able to donate over $68,000 to
these most important causes.
The winners of the Monopoly game were Marcy
& Bob Haupt for acquiring the most property
in Broken Sound. June & Aaron Speisman were
second with Eileen & Bob Herskowitz third.
Wonderful prizes were won by all. We also had
a raffle which included everyone who bought
property. The Grand Prize raffle winner of Jet
Blue Airline tickets were Christine & Detlef
Bindert. Overall, the Monopoly game alone
raised over $10,000.00 through the participation
of so many of our members & staff. The real
winner was Charity!
Next year’s date is tentatively scheduled for
January 21, 2010, and we hope to have an even
greater turnout next year. Look for e mails and
information in the bi-monthly magazine over
the summer for more information.

Las Vegas At Broken Sound
Elvis was in the house, the Rat Pack was playing
in the bar, the dice were rolling and the slots
were ringing. Not to mention the elaborate
buffets and food stations during the entire event.
Does anybody even remember how the golf was???
We do! The weather was perfect and everyone
laughed and had a great time the entire 18 holes.
This year’s overall gross winner was Allen and
Nancy Jo Feinberg and their guests Arthur and
Nancy Kramer. The winners of the Newton
Flight and Presley Flight were David and Iris
Frohman and their guests William and Evelyn
Feldman; and Dennis and Andrea Ratner and their
guests Richard and Roni Rosenstock,
respectively. Lightning struck twice at the Big
Breaks Break the Glass Game on hole number
10. The husband and wife team of Bill and Janice
Brunton, the guests of Jeffrey and Sharon Isaacs,
both broke the glass target, a very rare occurrence,
to say the least. Not only was there great golf
and entertainment the giveaways and door prizes
were phenomenal. We are already thinking of
how we can stretch the imagination more for
next year’s event.
Congratulations

Boca Cup
This is a new and exciting event that is
only played between Boca Raton’s private
clubs. Each year the club hosting the
tournament will rotate. This year the
event is being held at The Old Course.
Nine members and one Professional
make up the Broken Sound team. The
Club Champion from each course is
exempt from qualifying. Dr. Ronald
Murstein won the club championship at
both courses, automatically qualifying him
for the team, however due to a previous
commitment he will not be able to attend.
To determine which nine players will
attend from Broken Sound, a qualifier
was held at the Club Course on April
11th. Qualifying was an 18 hole stroke
play, low net event with 100% handicap.
Congratulations to our qualifiers ~

Dear Old Course Member,
The Summertime is fast approaching and we would like to
remind you of some of our summer procedures:
Beginning May 4th, we will be closed on Mondays and will reopen on Mondays beginning October 26 th. THERE WILL BE
NO GOLF CLUB SHUTTLE SERVICE ON DAYS THE OLD
COURSE IS CLOSED.
Golf
Beginning on May 15th, the guest rate with cart fee at the Old Course will be $30.
The summer is here which
means we are in a different
maintenance mode overall to
ready the courses for next
November’s seasonal play.
Most of you all know what that
means during the hot months:
Aerifying greens, aerifying all
of the golf course, repeated
verticutting, topdressing, slower green speeds
(with a target of staying in the 9.5 to 10 range on
the stimpmeter) due to the increased growth
daily, rough units nonstop mowing, reduced
heights for roughs from 2.0" down to 1.5". I
know it is an inconvenience from time to time
with the work we do, but it is all necessary to
keep your courses in the best shape they can be
for all the play we have year round. If anyone
ever has a question as to what we do, please do
not hesitate to call me at the office (561) 997-7793
or you can ask your respective Green Chairmen
to enlighten you. For the Club Course contact
Mr. Jerry Rebock and for the Old Course, Mr.
Jim Casty.
Thank you all for a great season and for those of you traveling north please do so
safely.

Dear Members,
With summer approaching, we sigh! Not because it has been such
a whirlwind season – party after party, dinner after dinner, event
after event, but because it was a successful and productive year in
the Food & Beverage Department.
We are proud that
we succeeded in
breaking new frontiers – making better,
bigger and bolder statements with events
that will make Broken Sound history.
We would like to congratulate on this
occasion Rachelle (formerly Mishaan) &
Alan Aaime; Marni (formerly Rothstein)
and Michael Davret on their Wedding.
Both couples had their receptions at
Broken Sound Club and they were nothing
but memorable. You will be able to soon
view photos and videos on the website,
under Catering. We congratulate them
yet again and wish their lives to be as
glamorous and exquisite as their Wedding
Reception.
Throughout the summer, rest assured
that we will continue to keep up the hard
work. Our Member Appreciation Prix Fixe
menu will continue to be available
onTuesday nights as well as Thursday
nights at the Centre Court Cafe. Please
be sure to check the Summer Dining
Schedule that will go into effect starting
early May. It will be available at the Front

to an end, and I want
to thank all of those
who participated in all
of our Club activities

like this that makes our tennis program
the best.
I would like to thank 10-S Tennis Supply
for their financial support for our Broken
Sound Invitational. I would personally
like to thank all the pros and the
volunteers who helped with the Pro-Am.
Congratulations to Larry Kobren and

and Leon Tracy for winning the regular
season, but unfortunately lost in the
finals. A special thanks to Lewis

Travel Fitness Tips
Tips to help you stay fit while traveling and avoid coming home with unwanted extra
baggage.
- Pack a resistance band in your suitcase. The band takes up very little space, yet can
provide you with an entire upper and lower body workout routine.
- Don’t deprive yourself of all local delicacies. You can enjoy some special meals
without going overboard. Ask the restaurants to prepare your favorite dishes with a
few lower fat ingredients.
- Be creative. Find unique, fun ways to exercise instead of doing the same routine
you do when you are at home. Try biking, hiking, a pedal boat excursion, water-skiing,
beach volleyball, etc. Effective workouts aren’t limited to the standard fares of walking,
jogging and fitness machines.
- Play in the pool. If lounging poolside is part of your vacation plans, then hop in the
pool every 20 minutes for 5-10 minutes of pool walking (try it in waist-deep or higher
water for a really challenging workout).
- Workout to your favorite workout DVD. Invest in a fitness DVD that you can take
with you in order to keep up your cardio or body sculpting routine wherever you go.

Dear Friends,
It is hard to believe that this is our last newsletter article of “the season.”
The year has flown by and we are so fortunate to have met so many new
Hadassah members. All of our members have brought a wonderful
sense of vitality and it has been our privilege to be your presidents.
Your support enables Hadassah to advance its cutting edge medical
research that benefits lives throughout the world, its youth education and environmental
programs and strong US-Israel relations.
We are all busy working on new programs for the 2009-10 year and look forward to
seeing all of you in the fall.
By the way, we wanted you to know that our Vagina Monologues was such a success
that we have been asked to perform at Boca West. Hats off to our Broken Sound Ladies
who worked so hard to make the show so terrific.
To all our officers and committee members “thank you” for your hard work, commitment
and enthusiasm. We loved working with all of you.

Women’s Club
Well, we broke all attendance records this season, and that’s a big accomplishment!
The season was terrific for Women’s Club, beginning with the Fashion Show which
you said was “the best one ever!” With speakers like Dr. Thomas Tzikis, plastic
surgeon, Joyce Reider, book reviewer, Professor Robert Watson, Dr. Joyce
Saltman, laughter consultant, and entertainer Andy Davis, who could ask for
anything more? (Needless to say, from the turnout of over 221 women for
Professor Watson and Dr. Saltman, we will try to bring them back again next
season!)
