What is Vasthu Sastra?
• Vasthu Sastra, better known as Indian Feng Shui is an
ancient science of construction which is over 5,000 years old.
• It can be used in modern times to achieve balance with
cosmic forces to attain harmony, good health, prosperity and
happiness.
What is Vasthu based on?
• It is based on arrangements and balancing of the five
elements in their proper order and proportions.
• It focuses on the placement of weights on the floor of a
property.
When is Vasthu required?
• Vasthu consultation or rules must be observed when
purchasing or renting or designing a house.
• It is highly recommended especially if you are facing
problems and challenges or disharmony at home or
place of work.
How fast does Vasthu work?
• If you are already facing problems, benefits
could be noticed almost immediately if the
placement of things are followed 100%.
• Otherwise you can see or experience the benefits
of Vasthu between three months to a year.
• It all depends on the degree you observe Vasthu
recommendations.
Understanding Vasthu
• Vasthu is not magic, superstition, religion or
religious ritual.
• It does not work on a belief system and it is not a
question of faith but a fact of life.

• which side the plot faces where the spearing roads are
• which side the plot slops towards
• which direction the plot is raised
• what is the shape of the plot
• what the quality of the soil is
• if there are any plot extensions
• what the angle of tilt is

• All pillars in the house should be even number. Those
who live in houses which have odd number of pillars
will be subjected to unnecessary harassment and

• Staircase should turn clockwise.
Size of main door & main gate
• The main door should be the biggest in the house.
• The total number of doors should be even in the house.
• Length of the main door should be twice the width of the
main door.
• The best size: Width – 3.6 feet
Height – 7 feet
Cracks
• Cracked on walls that bring negative effects to the
residents of the house must be avoided or plastered over
immediately.
Back door
• The back door should be directly opposite the main door
i.e the front and the back door should fall in one line.
Windows
• The total number of windows in the house should be in
even numbers (e.g. 2,4,6,8 etc), but should not end with a
0, i.e. 10,20 etc.
• Have more windows in the N and E as compared to S and
W.
Balcony
• Balcony should be in the E or N as compared to S or W.
• If balcony is in SW, fill up with potted plants.
• If balcony is in SW, cover with a collapsible gate or close
with venetian blinds or a wooden curtain.

• Sleeping in the wrong direction can also cause health
problems.
• Vasthu recommends that the head must be placed
towards the West for undisturbed sleep. The second
best sleeping direction is with the head towards the
East, the third choice is South.

• Television and hi-fi sets should be in the SE portion.
• Ensure lighting in the hall is uplifting and allow natural
lighting into this space.
Decorating the wall
• Images of war, warriors, weapons, mummies,
scenes of poverty, sadness, crying, stuffed animals
are all regarded as inauspicious as they do not
bring cheer but tension to people in the house.
It enhances purity,
spiritual and good quality.

• Fragrance is effective in improving one’s beauty, glow,
radiance, health and well-being
• If this practice is carried out regularly, it increases the

• You can also rub finely pounded Tulsi leaves on the face
like a powder to improve the skin’s translucence, and
remove facial spots.
