The Putnam's have been parishioners at St. Mary’s since 1995 and frater
Herman Joseph Jason Putnam grew up in Anacortes. He was ordained a
Deacon at last year’s ordination as seen on the left of the attached picture
and is completing his final year of studies in Rome prior to his Priestly Ordination in California this June.
Those unable to, know that arrangements are underway for Fr. to celebrate
his Mass of Thanks giving with us some time in July 2015. The Knights of
Columbus are planning a wonderful reception following the Mass.
Father will also be one of the featured speakers of this year’s Faith on Fire
Family Conference. Stay tuned for more news as plans develops.

Father Marion’s Corner
Appreciation Luncheon
A Son comes home as a Father!
For Father Marion &
Many will remember him as the boy who served Mass for Father Auer and
then Father Harris. Some will know him as a friend and maybe even as a
son or brother. By the grace of God he has been called to be a priest, a
father, a title by which he is deeply humbled.
Staff: Jim & Laurie Liberty ,
John Fahey, Joseph Tibbles &
He would like to convey that he was both stunned and awed by the great
gift of this assignment. St. Mary’s has always been remembered by Father Mel as his favorite and most beautiful church in the archdiocese. He
is truly grateful to the Archbishop for this decision.
Prior to his assignment, he was pastor of two parishes in Kelso and Castle
Rock. When he arrived, both parishes were experiencing financial hardships and their facilities were in disrepair. The Kelso parish had not paid
their assessments to the Archdiocese in over seven years; they were running a $45,000 annual deficit for 5 years prior and the original mortgage
on the church was never paid off.
In summary, the Kelso parish owed over $250,000 dollars in debt and
back taxes. At the same time, the Castle Rock parish was beginning to fall
behind on their monthly bills. Within the first year, Father Mel balanced
the budget. In three years’ time, the Kelso church mortgage was paid. At
present, the Kelso parish accumulated over $150,000 in savings.
Father Mel was instrumental in starting a Eucharistic Adoration Chapel,
the rosary processions, a new Marian shrine, and an outdoor Way of the
Cross. Moved by the Holy Spirit, he established a healing ministry that
drew people from as far as Portland, Oregon. He is convinced that this
ministry has the power to bring peace and consolation to those who seek
it from God.
It is clear from the above bio that Father Mel possesses a number of qualities and experiences that will serve this community well. He is a strong
administrator with a track record of not only balancing the budget but
also creating structures that successfully ensure financial stability. He is a
strong spiritual leader with a deep understanding of the immense power
of prayer and a devotional life. He has the administrative quality of Saint
Peter, the devotion of Saint John, and the fire of Saint Paul.
Open Invitation
He would like to invite the parishioners of St. Mary, Anacortes to join him
at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Kelso and St. Mary's Castle Rock for his
last weekend Mass on June 13th and 14th. There will be have a Rosary
Procession after the Vigil Mass on the 13th, as part of their monthly
Fatima Devotions.
Dorothy Conklin
Sunday, June 7th following the 10:30 a.m. Mass in
the Gym.
Save the date and see your there!
Due to financial constraints and desiring to create a
comprehensive restructured staff, John Fahey and
Joseph Tibbles will be stepping down from their ministries on June 30, 2015. Our Pastoral Council will include John and Joe among the honorees at the reception on June 7th.
Please mark your calendar and come to show your appreciation for their many years of generous and dedicated ministry among us. Thank you. RSVP Sign-up
sheets will also be in the vestibule. Please RSVP by
Monday June 1, for the event and bring a salad or dessert to share if you can. Main entrees will be prepared
by Myrna Emerson & Mary Joy.
To prevent food wastage we will be only accepting donations through sign-ups received by June 1st.
Alternately you can complete and clip the RSVP below
and place it in the collection basket. Thank you.

A Son comes home as a Father and this community rejoices. I am very
pleased that Father Mel will be your new Pastor. I know he will receive
much love and support; he will be happy here. Do not forget to pray for
