ROBERTO
DEVEREUX
SAT 16 APRIL 2016 6.00pm
In Franco Zeffirelli’s golden production of this
classic opera, Nina Stemme is Turandot, the
proud princess of ancient China whose riddles
doom every suitor to seek her hand. Tenor
Marco Berti is Calàf, the brave prince who sings
“Nessun Dorma” and wins her love.
The genius director Patrice Chéreau didn’t live
to see his great Elektra production make it to
the stage of the Met. But his overpowering
vision lives on with soprano Nina Stemme
who portrays Elektra’s quest for vengeance
for the murder of her father, Agamemnon.
Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts.
RICHARD STRAUSS
SAT 30 JAN 2016 6.00pm
Truth and legend come together in this early
Wagner masterpiece. Today’s leading
Wagnerian tenor, Johan Botha, takes on the
title role of the young knight caught between
true love and passion. The Met’s own star
Music Director James Levine conducts.
Eva-Maria Westbroek and Peter Mattei co-star.
The Met stage ignites when soprano Kristine Opolais and tenor
Jonas Kaufmann join forces in Puccini’s obsessive love story.
Opolais sings the title role of a country girl who
transforms herself into a Parisian temptress,
while Kaufmann is the dashing student
who desperately woos her. Director
Richard Eyre places the action
in occupied France in a
film noir setting.
SAT 5 MAR 2016 6.00pm
PRODUCTION
In this third in a trilogy of Donizetti operas
featuring Tudor queens, soprano Sondra
Radvanovsky plays Queen Elizabeth I,
forced to sign the death warrant of the
nobleman she loves, Roberto Devereux,
sung by Matthew Polenzani.

PUCCINI
The drama of a young woman who sexually and
emotionally dominates a wide range of willing
victims, both male and female. Met Music
Director James Levine conducts this wild journey
of love, obsession, and death, with soprano
Marlis Petersen in the title role. Production by
acclaimed artist and director William Kentridge.
Bizet’s gorgeous opera of lust and longing set
in the Far East returns to the Met in a production
that vividly creates an undersea world on its stage.
Soprano Diana Damrau stars as Leïla, the beautiful
Hindu priestess pursued by rival pearl divers
competing for her hand.
SAT 3 OCT 2015 6.00pm
Verdi’s masterful Otello matches
Shakespeare’s play in tragic intensity,
with Aleksandrs Antonenko as the
doomed Otello and upcoming
soprano Sonya Yoncheva as his
innocent wife and victim.
PRODUCTION
BIZET
This Goya-inspired production of Met favourite
Il Trovatore takes place against the backdrop of a
war-torn Spain. Anna Netrebko stars as Leonora,
