What was Beard's Creek single most significant pollution source is now a healing wetland system that is
open for the public to visit and for students to come learn to install and maintain native Bay plant species.
Shortly after construction finished, native fauna moved into the site. Whether they
found a new home in the woody debris or stopped by to snack on tadpoles, the series of
aquatic beds and native plants continue to attract wildlife.
Approximately one acre in size, the new Davidsonville
Wildlife Sanctuary Wetland Complex provides a unique
blend of aquatic and upland wildlife habitat designed to look
and function like a prehistoric beaver swamp, while still
providing effective stormwater storage and processing.
Over 100 volunteers participated in the plantings! Native plants
were selected based on wildlife value in addition to many other
factors such as nutrient uptake and soil moisture preference.
