The
Annual
Meeting of the
Association
was
held on June 12. At
that meeting, each
committee gave an Annual Report
on their respective committee’s work
over the past fiscal year. In addition,
management gave an overview of the
finances and accomplishments of the
past year, as well as goals for the
future fiscal year. The auditing firm of
Testone, Marshall & Discenza summarized their findings of the Audit of the
Association for the Board of Directors
and those in attendance. There were
no findings and the Association is
in good fiscal shape.
One reason for the fiscal health of
the Association is our Agreement with
Time Warner. It’s been over a year
since the RCA entered into a 10-year
agreement with Time Warner. This
agreement allows Time Warner to put
out brochures, flyers and have rights to
advertise within Radisson for financial
remuneration. This financial remuneration affords us the opportunity to complete additional projects
while keeping assessment increases
at a minimum. Time Warner, as the
community’s preferred service provider for phone/internet/cable service,
has had a presence in the community
From The Executive Director
in a variety of ways over the past year.
They were a sponsor of the musical
entertainment at Founder’s Day, as
well as providing several items that
were raffled off at that event. They
have also recently installed a courtesy
cable television service at the Aspen
House, for use by renters and/or committee functions. Also, for a limited
time only – FREE INSTALLATION of
new Time Warner Services. To qualify,
requests MUST be made through Jamie
Oppedisano, Radisson’s TW Community
Sales Consultant. Please see his contact
information in the Time Warner Notice
below.
The Oberon Pool began their
extended summer hours on June 17.
For a complete schedule, go to the
Page 7 or it can be found on www.
radissoncommunity.org. For those in
need of assistance, we have installed a
handicapped pool lift at the Oberon
Pool. Pool staff has
been trained on how
to use the lift and
can instruct the resident, or their companion/aide on the
proper way to use
it. However, staff can
not operate the lift
for you.
In case you
haven’t heard the news, the Luau is
back! The Recreation Committee
is hosting the Luau at the Oberon
Pool on Saturday, July 13. This will
be the first Luau held since several
improvements have been made to the
pool area. There is an additional patio
seating area, renovated bathrooms,
LED lighting and a new fence! Put
on your best Luau attire, bring a dish
to pass and come enjoy the festivities!
Additional details are on the cover of
this issue.
On page 9, we are reprinting a summary of the 2013 Yard Waste Schedule.
If you are unaware of the pick-up day
for your street you can call the office
or find it on the Maintenance Page on
our website. Please refrain from putting brush and yard waste bags out
until the day before your street’s
designated pick-up. We
have received calls from
residents with complaints of neighbors
that have left their yard waste material
out, although that street wasn’t due
for pick-up soon. There are no streets
scheduled for pick-up on Fridays.
When severe weather is forecasted for
the weekend, maintenance may take
one loop through the community to
pick-up bags only, so that they don’t
get rain soaked thereby making pickup more difficult the following week.
The RCA Office and Maintenance
Department will be closed on the
4th of July (Thursday) in honor of
Independence Day. Those residents
scheduled for a Thursday brush pickup will be picked up on Friday, July
5. Swim lessons and Summer Rec
Program will be held on July 4.
Have a Safe & Happy 4th of July!!
Time Warner Cable (TW) is the community’s preferred service provider for cable, internet and phone services. Whether
you are moving into the community soon or are an established resident, and are interested in starting services or upgrading
services with Time Warner, you may contact the RCA Office and we can make that request on your behalf. This will result in
an expedited response from Time Warner. Or, if you prefer, you can contact James Oppedisano, Radisson Community Sales
Consultant, directly at [email protected] or 315-383-6886. The requests that we will not be able to handle on
your behalf are: technical support, discontinuation of services, etc. For those requests, you will need to contact TW’s customer
service department at 315-634-6000.

Architectural Standards Committee (ASC)
Fencing
We receive many
questions regarding
fencing each week.
Where can a fence
be located? What
type of fencing is allowed? How tall
can a fence be? These are all common questions we receive. To help
residents understand the fencing standards for the community, we have
included the fence section from the
2013 Architectural Standards Guidesingle family homeowners. This section
only applies to single family homeowners since fencing is not permitted for
attached homes.
Objective/Goal
To select and locate fencing so that
it is compatible with its surroundings
and minimizes its visual and physical
impact on the environment.
Planning a Fence
Besides separating property, fences
can provide security for your home, pet
control, visual privacy, or architecturally define a space. In achieving any of
these goals, fences have both a visual
and physical impact on the boundaries
on our homes and common land. It’s
not only important how your fence fits
on your property, but how it looks in
relation to your adjacent neighbors, the
street, and the entire community. For
this reason, the ASC suggests that you
talk to your neighbors before you build
your fence.
Where Fences are Allowed
Fencing is primarily restricted to
the rear yard. No fencing is permitted
in the front yard, which is defined as the
entire area between the front street line
and the house, except in certain cases
with corner lots. The ASC strongly
recommends that you have your lot
properly surveyed before building your
fence. ASC approval of your fence
does not certify your fence placement
within your property boundary.
Fence Styles
Radisson approves only four fence
designs:
1) Board-on-board 4 foot tall wood
fence. 2) Board-on-board 6 foot tall wood
fence. The 6 foot tall wood fence is
allowed only for properties that have a
swimming pool.
3) Black aluminum metal: fencing shall be compatible in style to
Ameristar “Majestic” or equal fencing
which is a three-rail design without
any ornamentation. Approval height
for metal fencing is fifty-four (54)
inches. No substitutes are permitted.
4) Installation of invisible fences
(i.e., an underground electronic fence
with no visible elements) must be
installed on your own property. NOTE:
Residents are encouraged to set invisible fences 5 feet back from prop-
erty lines in consideration of neighbors
and users of adjacent common areas.
Application is not required for invisible fencing.
Pool Requirements
In the case of a swimming pool,
temporary fencing must be in place
during construction. A 4 foot fence
setback is required from all outer edges
of the pool. (see page 42 for additional
requirements for a pool)
Fence Setbacks
A 5 foot setback is required from
all RCA common property. Elsewhere,
fencing may be installed up to the
property line. Fence style must match
neighboring property fencing. Corner
lots require additional setbacks and
special landscaping for screening of
the fence.
Fences on an Easement
The ASC recommends that you
do not build a fence on an easement.
If you decide to build a fence on an
easement you are taking a risk that
your fence may be removed and will
not be replaced by the person or persons working within an easement. ASC
approval of your fence does not certify
your fence placement is not on an easement.
Scenic Easements
This type of easement affects certain properties such as those that border any ponds within Radisson. Fences
are not permitted on scenic easements.
Color
Painted or stained fences that were
“grandfathered” prior to this 2010 ASC
Guide must be maintained the current
color. All other wood fencing may not
be painted or stained. However, fences
may be sealed with a clear protective
wood sealer.
Fence Gates
Gates compatible with the overall
design and construction of the fence
are permitted in any part of the fence,
except that no gate may access a neighboring property.
Additional Requirements
a. Fencing extending from the side
or rear corner of the house must
extend at a ninety (90) degree
angle from the house and wall.
b. Maximum length of a section of
fence is to be no greater than eight (8)
feet.
c. The top of the wooden boards and
wooden posts must be at 90 degrees
(square cut).

FOUNDER’S DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
Founder’s Day is a day for residents to celebrate Radisson. It is one of
Radisson’s larger events and it relies heavily on volunteers. People are getting
busier and busier these days and over the past few years volunteers at Founder’s
Day have dwindled leaving a lot of work for only a handful of people.
The Recreation Committee is looking for volunteers for:
• Cooking • Serving • Beer Pouring
• Youth Volunteers (great for PIG hours!)
If you are interested in volunteering please contact Lori at 635-7171 ext 11 or
[email protected].

conditioned comfort, tables and chairs provided.
Your house is busy enough – setup at Aspen

NEW – book a simple outing at Drakes Landing Park Pavilion!
Make a reservation to host a birthday party or
neighborhood play-date!
For your fair weather adventures…
If you’re thinking of getting a boat, camper or trailer, remember
we have outdoor vehicle storage
available. Very reasonable rates for
lots up to 40 feet long.
And even though it’s a little late in the season, if you want to try
your hand at some fall
plants, there are still one or
two plots in the community
garden.

Planting Annuals For Summer Color
Written by Pat Rickard
There are three basic points required
for their care.
FEED AND FERTILIZE
CONTINUALLY. They need this
boost to maintain their color and
be strong enough to resist diseases
and pests. Keep a garden journal or
calendar of when you fertilize, and
do so every 2-4 weeks using a liquid
fertilizer, applying it in the early
morning hours or after sunset. The
ideal practice is to use a slow-release
fertilizer like Osmocote at planting
time and regular feeding during the
growing season.
WATER DEEPLY to encourage
flowers to root deeply and then be
able to sustain the long hot days of
summer. Light watering encourages
the roots to develop on the surface
and then languish in the heat of the
hot summer days.
DEADHEAD to prevent seeds

Gardeners
are
generally
impressed
with
their
spring
gardens. So many flowers burst
out in full bloom. Those bulbs
planted in the fall are glowing and
have naturalized giving many more
flowers. We continue to be excited
with blooms in late May and June
as the rhododendrons, azaleas, and
other flowering shrubs, trees and
perennials have their ‘show-time’.
Then spring and early summer
flowers begin to languish. How do
most gardeners keep color or lush
green foliage coming in July and
August? There are two major ways
to do this. The first way is to plant
perennials so that they bloom in
succession from spring through to
frost. The second is to plant annuals.

IMPATIENS prefer part shade and

LOBELIA is low growing and bears

NICOTINA delivers large flowers

We are hoping to receive many more
responses before the 28th of June (the
deadline for comments requested in
the article of June 14, 2013). Several
families have contacted me, who have
heard about this new initiative from
neighbors, but because they are on
vacation, asked to extend the deadline
until they return to Radisson so they
can respond. Therefore, the committee
has agreed to extend the response time
until July 7, 2013. If you can’t find a

Neighborhood Watch Update:
CRIMES OF OPPORTUNITY
Authorities
have alerted
us to the fact
that there is
an increasing
trend in the Lysander/Baldwinsville/
Radisson area of larcenies and burglaries that are considered CRIMES OF
OPPORTUNITY. Suspects of all
ages are literally walking around looking for unlocked doors to vehicles and
houses. If the door is locked, they move
along to the next vehicle or home. If a
door is found unlocked, they enter and
quickly grab anything they find that
can be pawned for quick cash (i.e. elec-
tronics, jewelry, etc). Authorities have advised us that the
best protection is to lock your car(s)
and your house at all times…even
when you are home. When they suggest
this, many times people respond: “I
don’t want to live in that kind of
world”. The authorities’ response to
that is: “Unfortunately, that’s the kind
of world we are living in”. We need
to be proactive and deter crime in our
community.
The theft at a house in Radisson earlier this week has been determine to have
been a CRIME OF OPPORTUNITY.
The door was unlocked, while fam-

Tennis courts are now open for the season. Locks have been changed, as they are
every 3 years. Residents wishing to use the courts will need to stop into the office
to purchase a new tennis court key. The cost is $5 per key. Keys can be purchased
at the RCA Office during normal business hours (Monday-Friday from 8:00 am
to 5:00 pm.) Keys may also be purchased at the Oberon Pool. A reminder that the

ily members were home but in separate locations of the house. An apartment complex in Radisson had a rash
of car break-ins Thursday night. All
the vehicles involved were unlocked,
another example of a CRIME OF
OPPORTUNITY. CRIMES OF OPPORTUNITY – if
you give them the OPPORTUNITY there
will be a CRIME.
Help stop the crime wave. Lock
your car and house. Get to know your
neighbors and keep a watch out for any
suspicious activity. If you see anything
suspicious, call 9-1-1 immediately.
After filing a report with authorities,
please notify the RCA so that we can
follow up with authorities and notify
the community.
