THE OSPREY Legacy of the Russian
Masters Paint-Off
4:00 - 7:00 pm
of te
A story that began centuries ago with Russian Czar Peter The
Great continues as renowned Hollywood writer/director and
painter George Gallo and nationally recognized American
painter Don Sahli explore the three hundred year old connection
between the Legacy of the Great Russian Masters and today’s
resurgent American Representational and Impressionist art
movement.
Gallo and Sahli are honored to support the Vilar Performing
Arts Center and the 23rd Annual Beaver Creek Art Festival with
four days of painting and special events surrounding a benefit
screening of Gallo’s critically acclaimed movie, Local Color, an
inspired story of a young painter with his Russian master mentor.
From 1982-1985, Don Sahli had a comparable experience as
the last apprentice to Sergei Bongart, the great Russian virtuoso
painter. Gallo and Sahli will spend the week painting outdoor
locations around Vail and Beaver Creek, capturing local scenes
on canvas. To view these works, visit Vail Fine Art on Thursday,
July 29 and Beaver Creek Fine Art, Friday, July 30. Join us for
the following events.

invited to engage in a lively discussion of great value for anyone who
has dreamed of working in the Hollywood machine.
Introduction of Local Color by
George Gallo 7:00 pm
Moviegoers will also be treated to a special video short: Legacy of the
Russian Masters. Gallo and Sahli will then share more with the audience
on their remarkably similar paths as students of two great Russian artists,
George Cherepov and Sergei Bongart, along with the importance of
representational art in the world today.

Following the screening of Local Color, Jim Tylich will unveil a collection

previously displayed only in museums, have never been seen outside
of Russia. Tylich will share a comprehensive overview on the skill,
schooling and distinct technique of these Russian masters that has so
impacted today’s art world. Tickets for this exclusive separate event
are available at 970-845-TIXS (8497), thru the Vilar Performing Arts
Center Box office or www.vilarpac.org, and include VIP admission

Sahli.
Kind greetings to each of you and a heartfelt thank you! With
your wonderful support we are celebrating 21 years in the fine
art business. How the time passes! It has been great and I look
forward to the future with much anticipation.
This summer again holds many interesting surprises for art
aficionados. First comes the very enjoyable and exciting 23rd
Annual Beaver Creek Art Festival. This takes place on the
weekend of July 31, 2010. Enjoy the work of over 150 skilled
artists as they personally display their works and show you how
they paint and explain their motivation for each artwork. This is
a truly fabulous occasion and allows you to develop a real bond
with the artist you like the best.
Gallo and Sahli will work side-by-side, painting in the gallery while
gallery owner, Jim Tylich, moderates the evening demonstration with
informative explanations of each artist’s technique. Refreshments with
appetizers by Chef Michael Wilganowski of The Osprey at Beaver
Creek – a RockResort.
JULY 31
July 29 – August 1, 2010
Dear Clients and Friends of the Arts:
An integral part of this special weekend will be the screening of
the award-winning film “Local Color” presented by Hollywood’s
celebrated international movie director and artist George Gallo.
He will be accompanied on stage by well known American artist
Don Sahli. The two men have much in common as you will see.
Be sure to see the attached schedule of events. On Saturday
night after the movie screening, a VIP event will be held in the
large backstage area of the beautiful Vilar Center. There, you can
meet George and Don in person, take photos, and ask questions
about their amazing artworks. Then I will personally display
and explain to you a number of stunning Russian masterpieces,
many of which have never before been seen outside of Soviet
Russia. This lecture in art and history will include delicious
hors de’oeuvres, champagne, and personal stories regarding
how I found the art in the huge landmass that is today called
the Russian Federation. Enjoy appetizers by Chef Michael
Wilganowski of The Osprey at Beaver Creek, and desserts by
the Columbine Bakery.
In conclusion, please join us for our July 4th weekend Grand
Re-opening of our original Vail Fine Art Gallery in the Solaris
Building in Vail.
