Our Thoughts: The raw food diet, which is gaining popularity across all categories, can best be described as eating
uncooked and unprocessed foods. What makes this bar stand out are the aronia berries, which are poised to be the
next big superfruit! We showcased aronia berry in our superfruit whips at the 2008 Innovation Roadshow®.

Native to India and a member of the ginger family, turmeric is
globally acclaimed as a primary ingredient in curry, but it’s also the
source of the recognizable yellow color in classic mustard! Long
used as a dye, spice and natural medicine in Indian and Asian
cultures, turmeric’s signature bright yellow-orange color once
earned it the moniker of “Indian Saffron.” As a natural medicine, it
is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and abundance of
antioxidants. With a prominent peppery
and bitter flavor profile, turmeric’s
aroma is likened to that of a blend
between orange and ginger.
We often see food ingredients that are
traditional in one region of the world
become exciting and trendy in another.
This classic Southeast Asian ingredient
is having a big moment in the Western
spotlight, particularly in the US, and it
shows no signs of slowing down
anytime soon. International food and
restaurant consultants Baum + Whiteman even named turmeric
the spice of the year for 2016! Over the past few years we’ve
noticed turmeric showing up in juice bars, health food shops and
retail beverage alike. Operators and retailers are now beginning to
take this super spice one step further with varietals, flavor
combinations and unexpected applications. Expect to see
turmeric in dairy, desserts, confection, snacks and on more
restaurant menus. With its ancient health-halo, cure all properties
and its interesting flavor profile, turmeric fits in perfectly with the
major trends of the food and beverage world.
