Directors’ Message
Congratulations to the RE/MAX Team in California and Hawaii for 20 wonderful years!
As we look back, one thing has remained constant – the dedication of each and every one of you to build on our
strength. RE/MAX of California and Hawaii has experienced tremendous growth. Over the past twenty years,
our number of Associates has grown from 240 to 7,300. RE/MAX would not be where it is today without the
strength of its Broker/Owners, Managers, Sales Associates, and dedicated administrative support. Thank you
for being such an important part of the Team.
At the 20th Annual Regional Awards Celebration and 2002 Conference in March, we honored all of you for your
hard work and commitment to making RE/MAX the best-known and most successful real estate network in
California and Hawaii.
We look forward to many more years of growth and success together!
RE/MAX of California & Hawaii, Inc.
Sidney K. Syvertson
Regional Director
Built by Real Estate Professionals for Real Estate Professionals, RE/MAX is an
organization created on innovation, not imitation. At RE/MAX, the strength
of our company lies not in our stock or on Wall Street, but in the success of
our Associates. One of the best-kept secrets at RE/MAX is that our successful
Sales Associates love to network, share and learn from each other.
1985
1982 – Sid Syvertson and
Steve Haselton, owners of
Spring Realty, join RE/MAX.
They add 240 Sales
Associates to the network the largest conversion in
RE/MAX history.

Each publication consists of 25,000 copies that are available throughout California and
Hawaii at select grocery
stores in prestigious
neighborhoods as well
as in all RE/MAX office
lobbies. 2,000 of these
magazines are also
distributed to upper
income households
across the state.
Other components are available such as business
cards featuring a distinctive Select Properties
International logo, presentation folders and post
cards from Smith Lithographics (800) 854-8362.
While special signage is available for Select
Properties International, it is important to
emphasize that the Select Properties International signs are not intended to replace the
standard red-over-white-over-blue RE/MAX
yard sign. The Select Properties International
sign is to be used as a marketing tool for “high
end” properties only.
You will need to obtain your Broker/Owner or Manager’s
approval for a listing to participate in the Select Proper-

From its inception, RE/MAX set out to build an organization that would
change the real estate industry forever. RE/MAX is the only major real estate
network still owned by its original founders; and it's not for sale!

In 1982, Spring Realty, one of the nation's top ten privately held real estate
companies, became RE/MAX Spring Realty in what was the largest
conversion in the history of RE/MAX International. Known today as
RE/MAX of California & Hawaii, Inc., the region continues to set the pace as
the fastest growing region in the world.

ties International program. Also, at a minimum the Sales
Associate should (1) use the approved Select Properties
International signage and (2) either prepare and pay for a
minimum number of Select Properties International
brochures in the approved style OR place a minimum
1/3-page ad in the Select Properties International Magazine advertising the property. Sales Associates are free to
ask their sellers to participate in the cost of the ads.
Select Properties are “high
end” properties that would
be recognized as luxury
homes and estates in a
given market area. Local
area teams have set the criteria for determining which
properties can be included
in the Select Properties
International program. For
example, one area team has
decided on a minimum standard of a listing price of more
than $500,000 or 150% of the average selling price of
homes in the area. Price criteria cannot be based on land
value or view value exclusively (e.g. a one-bedroom tear
down on a million dollar lot). It is important to maintain
high standards so that the effectiveness of the program is
not lost through indiscriminate use of the Select
Properties International designation.

Food for Thought:
Awareness of full service can impact
agent selection. 44% of consumers who
were aware of full service (an office that
provided real estate services plus
mortgage, escrow, etc.) prior to selecting
their agent said that it made a positive
impact on their selection of agent.
