ANNUAL REPORT
2010-2011
Dear Friends,
This past year has been momentous for Josephinum
Academy. After a decade of dedication to living out
the Goals and Criteria of the Religious of the Sacred
Heart, Josephinum was affirmed as a full member of the
Network of Sacred Heart Schools in April of 2011. This
confirmation is one that will help to guide us as we delve
into strategic planning for the school in the year to come.
Our steadfast commitment to educating and empowering
young women to become confident, faith-filled leaders
will guide us as we move forward.
We continue to serve young women who come to us from
all corners of the city of Chicago. We work individually
with their families to ensure that students who want to be
at Josephinum find a way to afford their education. The
generous support from our donors enables Josephinum
to provide a quality, faith-based education, regardless of
our families' ability to pay tuition. Josephinum Academy’s
board and administration place fiscal responsibility high
on their list of priorities. Your contributions are put to
work immediately and the impact you make on the lives
of the students is truly remarkable. The girls know that
hundreds of unknown donors support them in their
education and because of this they find there is no better
motivation for them to succeed.
Thank you for partnering with Josephinum Academy as it
works to educate young women of Chicago. Their success
is due to the generosity of people like you who inspire
the students, staff and faculty every day.
Gratefully yours,
Juliette C. Lane

2010-2011 AT A GLANCE
November
Senior Corina Perez (top left) was awarded
the prestigious Posse Scholarship, which
pays her full tuition to Carleton College.
October
August
Josephinum hosted Girls Rock! Chicago's
Rock Camp, a program that empowers
young women through rock music. Camp
activities included instrument instruction,
music composition, recording workshops,
song-writing workshops, technical
equipment workshops, team-building
activities, and band performances.
Josephinum's Class of 1970 held their 40th
reunion in October. Alumnae returned to the
Jo to meet and talk with students, perform
service at the Jo, and celebrate their high school
experience with slideshows, stories, old photos,
and team building activities.
Literature teacher Ms. Hayley Keller was
named a "Hero in the Classroom" by the
Chicago Bears and Symetra Financial.
Nominated by Jo student
Lupita Gonzalez, Ms. Keller
was presented with a
$1,000 donation to her
classroom, a personalized
Bears jersey, and two tickets
to the Nov. 14 Bears game,
where she was recognized
during halftime in front of
the crowd.
September
December

the Jo to help students repaint the chapel.
April

After years of preparation, on April
11 the Network of Sacred Heart
Schools voted unanimously to

On June 4, the 28 members of the Class
of 2011 participated in an emotional
and heartfelt graduation ceremony at St.
Aloysius Church. All the graduates were
accepted into college and were offered
a combined $1.6 million in merit-based
scholarships.
The celebration continued on the
13th at the Spring Luncheon at the
Michigan Shores Club in Wilmette,
where 220 attendees raised $45,000 for
scholarships for the school.

We wish to extend our gratitude to the Sisters of Christian Charity
for the use of the school building and land, valued at $325,185
per year. Beginning in the 2009 Fiscal Year, Josephinum changed
its accounting method to reflect the non-cash expense of the use
of its facilities, which are donated to Josephinum by the Sisters of
Christian Charity.
Josephinum is unique in that
we raise $1.6 million annually
from donors to bridge the gap
between the stated tuition
and the true cost of education

Josephinum’s academic program emphasizes critical thinking,
analysis, and writing skills needed at the university level. Freshmen
and sophomores complete a portfolio with a special defense of
their work. Seniors complete a capstone project including a ten
