LA GOMERA
CANARY ISLANDS (SPAIN)
28° 7′ N, 17° 14′ W
La Gomera is 1300km away from Spanish mainland and 300 km away from the coast
of Africa. The closest port is the one in Tenerife, Los cristianos, located 38 km away.
La Gomera is the second-smallest island of this archipelago. The island appeared
more than 12 million years ago, which makes it one of the oldest ones. Its volcanic
origin is visible in the landscape.
In the heart of the island, flourishes the biggest laurel forest in the world. Together
with several small volcanic craters, it makes up the National Park Garajonay.
The biggest elevation of the island has the same name, the mountain of Garajonay,
which is 1478 metres tall.
According to the climate, the island is divided into two parts, the dry South and the
fertile North, which receives the humidity carried by trade winds. The weather is
spring-like all the year round. It enjoys mild temperatures due to its location on the
Atlantic Ocean.

IMPRESSIONS OF THE ISLAND
THE ISLAND IS REGARDED AS A WILD BEAUTY OF THE CANARY ISLANDS.
La Gomera has very different vegetation areas due to its high location above sea level
and to the island’s microclimate. In the North of the island, at 500 metres above sea
level, we find laurel forests and evergreen ferns. Above the 1000 metres there are
mixed forests of myrtle and tree heaths.
In the heart of la Gomera we find the National Park Garajonay, which covers 10% of
the total surface of the island.
Its ecosystem was declared Natural World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1986.
The park’s forests are mainly laurel forests, which still exist, as there was no glaciation here. The heart of the Natural Park is made of a misty evergreen forest with
ferns which can be up to two metres long, long lichens hanging from the trees, moss
covering big tree branches and water streams with several waterfalls.

THE LOCATION
OF THE WINDMILL IN SAN SEBASTIAN DE LA GOMERA
La Gomera belongs to the Spanish province Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The island’s capital is San Sebastian de la Gomera. Christopher
Columbus made his last supplying stop here on the 6th of September 1492 before starting his expedition to the Indies and discovering America. Apparently, he used water from the well in San Sebastian de la Gomera to “baptize” the American continent.
The property is located in an excellent area of San Sebastian, close to the National Parador Hotel. The historical windmill is located
on a 3600sqm plot with a secondary building and a garden house.
The plot is in a quiet and central area. The centre of the village is just at a 10 min walk. There we find several beaches, and a yacht
harbour. The sea is only 200 m away from the property, which is located 80 meters above sea level. This position guarantees top
views of the sea and of Tenerife with Spain’s highest mountain (el Teide, with its 3718 m).

THE WINDMILL
WELCOME
A UNIQUE, HISTORICAL PROPERTY
PLEASE COME IN....
The windmill, which is listed under protected historical monuments, was completely
restored in 1994/1995 under the supervision of experts of the University of La Laguna
(Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
San Sebastian’s windmill is of great historic
significance.
The main part of the building is about 90 years old. The picture shows the state of
the building around 1940.
In the Canary Islands there are only two
mills of this nature. All others were built
following a different ground plan.
And only one of them has been renovated according to specialized studies: the
windmill of San Sebastian.
In the Church of San Sebastian there is a mural, which depicts the significance of the
mills in the past. They used to be special buildings comparable to the mayor’s office
building.

EL MOLINO - HISTORICAL WINDMILL
Two floors make up the spacious, central space of this historical windmill, with a
fireplace and a patio. There are two attached living rooms, a bedroom with bathroom
and a separate toilet for guests. The windmill mechanism has been embedded in the
living room, which contributes to the special atmosphere of the house, as well as its
1,20 m walls.
The kitchen, the pantry and the service room are located in the secondary building,
which is connected to the windmill by means of a partially covered 50sqm patio. The
patio is bright and has natural ventilation, and everyday life takes place in its living
and dinning room.
There is also a secondary building with a separate entrance and two floors. On the
ground floor we find the entrance, the corridor, two bedrooms –which connect to a
glazed terrace - two toilets with shower, and the stairwell. On the upper floor there is
a spacious living room with kitchen area and a dining space on the Cannary balcony.
It offers impressing panorama views of the sea and Tenerife, crowned by its mountain, el Teide. In this building there is also a 50sqm studio/atelier.
The garden house completes the wonderful offer, with a small living room and a separated toilet with shower.
