If your fingers have led you to this page, please read on a little longer, and allow
me to welcome you to De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), one of
the 17 Lasallian schools in the Philippines. DLS-CSB belongs to an international
Lasallian family that stretches back through three centuries and into 80 countries
around the globe.
Despite its relative youth, DLS-CSB has steadily carved out its place in the
Philippine educational map. As it continues to grow in terms of population and
physical facilities, its spirit of innovation and creativity propels it on towards
becoming the school of choice for students who know better.
I am pleased to tell you that Benildean teachers and personnel do try to see
themselves as formators who walk the extra mile to bring out the best in our
students. Because we try to see each learner as a child of God, we want to offer

Our Founder and Our Saint
Saint John Baptist de La Salle
“He embraced all classes, all conditions of society. By making the free schools popular, he grasped the
growing needs of society in his own day and for all times. No phase of the educational problem escaped
his penetrating vision.”
John Baptist de La Salle was born to a wealthy family in France, but he was so moved by the plight of the poor that he
resolved to dedicate his talents and advanced education towards the service of children “who were often left to themselves
and were badly brought up.” This brought him to establish free schools and form the community that became known as the
Brothers of the Christian Schools.
He made radical reforms that responded to his society’s needs and changed the structure and system of education
altogether. He made education available to all classes and taught in a language that his students could understand. He
went on to establish training colleges for teachers, reform schools for delinquents, technical schools, as well as secondary
schools for modern languages, arts and sciences. His work quickly spread through France and continued to spread across
the globe after his death.
In 1900, John Baptist de La Salle was declared a Saint. In 1950, in recognition of his exemplary life and contributions to
education, he was made Patron Saint of All Teachers. His legacy lives on today, as the De La Salle Brothers, assisted by
more than 100,000 lay colleagues, teach over 1,000,000 students in 82 countries.
Saint Benilde Romançon
Pierre Romançon was born to a poor peasant family in Auvergne, France. At an early age, he became a tutor of prayers
to his playmates. He felt a strong desire to be a Lasallian Brother and assumed the name Benilde when he became a
follower of John Baptist de La Salle.
He loved teaching children and spent 40 years in the classroom. He taught not only young pupils, but also held classes
for some of his students’ parents and other adults as well. He became distinguished for his devotion to educating
students from all walks of life, going as far as to learn sign language to teach a Deaf boy catechism in order to make it
possible for the latter to receive Holy Communion.
An embodiment of Lasallian spirituality and simplicity, Benilde Romançon worked hard to enrich the quality of fraternal
unity among the Brothers through prayer, song and music. In 1928, his virtuous life was recognized. In acknowledging
his achievements, Pope Pius XI said, “Sanctity does not consist in doing extraordinary things, but in doing ordinary
things extraordinarily well.” In October 27, 1967, he was declared a saint.
Benilde Romançon’s selfless devotion to education encouraged many young men to the priesthood and religious life,
and he became known as the Lasallian patron saint of vocations.

Our Story

It was in this spirit that De La Salle University established the Career Development
Program (CDP) in 1980 to cater to unique learners such as working students. It was
an evening school offering degree programs in Business Administration major in
Business Management and Marketing Management. It was also the beginnings of
De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
As the program progressed, it saw that there were students who needed guidance
to cope with the academic requirements in degree-oriented courses in regular
colleges. In response to this need, CDP established the Preparatory Studies
Department in 1984.
In 1985, CDP expanded to become a Community College. It opened its doors
to regular students in 1987 when it began offering courses in Human Resource
Management and Computer Applications. The college preparedness program was
still being offered under the Educational Development Department, which later on
progressed to become the General Studies Program.
It was in 1988 that the Community College was renamed De La Salle UniversityCollege of Saint Benilde, and then later on, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde,
after the Lasallian patron saint for vocations. As the College expanded, it moved
to its new campus at 2544 Taft Avenue, Manila in January 1989 and opened more
programs under the Arts and Business Studies Department.
The College began conducting its own admissions process in 1993 and reached full
autonomy in 1994. In 1997, it held its first commencement exercise independent
from DLSU.
Five years after its autonomy, DLS-CSB inaugurated its second campus at the
corner of Arellano Avenue and Estrada Streets: the Angelo King International Center
(AKIC) Campus which houses the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution
Management and CSB Hotel, the first hotel-school in the country. Then in 2007, the
College inaugurated its third campus along P. Ocampo St. (formerly Vito Cruz), the
School of Design and Arts (SDA) Campus.

Today, the La Salle Worldwide Network spans 1,500 institutions in 82 countries. For centuries now,
this global Lasallian family has been following the steps of its founder Saint John Baptist de La Salle
in offering Christian education to the young, especially the less fortunate.
Unified by a commitment to the Lasallian Mission, the International Association of Lasallian
Universities (IALU) nurtures a fraternity that transcends gender, culture, age, and class.

SDEAS
The School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS)
strives to be the leader in learner-centered Deaf education. With
various programs and services, it ensures that equal access
to opportunities and the diverse needs of its students and
professionals are addressed.
SDEAS offers a degree in Bachelor in Applied Deaf Studies; a
pre-college program through the Deaf Learners’ Preparatory
Course; and short courses in Filipino Sign Language for Deaf
and Hearing individuals.
Aside from academics, SDEAS provides holistic services for
its students through Center for Deaf Esteem and Formation
(C-DEAF) and Center for Partnership and Development
(C-PD). C-DEAF develops self-esteem and leadership skills
of Deaf students through various activities while C-PD builds
partnerships among the Deaf and Hearing communities.
Filipino Sign Language is used as the medium of instruction
in recognition that the Deaf community has its own language,
culture and values. Believing that college education must
be equally accessible to members of the Deaf community,
DLS-CSB offers scholarships to deserving and marginalized
Deaf high school graduates.
Since 2002 until 2010, SDEAS has been a partner of the Post
Secondary Education Network-International (PEN-International),
a global collaboration of colleges and universities for the Deaf
and Hard of Hearing. The partnership, funded by a grant from
the Nippon Foundation of Japan, has brought in innovative
instructional strategies and technologies for Deaf learners &
faculty members.

SDEAS celebrates the Annual Deaf Festival every
November. Other schools for the Deaf come to
Benilde to join in the celebration.
Students in SDEAS’ Business Entrepreneurship
track are trained to be owners and managers of
small- to medium-sized enterprises.
SDEAS has two centers that enable interactive
learning through technology–PEN Multimedia
Learning Center and the PEN Learning Center.
SDEAS offers Filipino Sign Language classes to
students, College personnel and the external public
as part of DLS-CSB’s commitment to provide
access for the Deaf.
Deaf Learners’ Preparatory Course
(DLPC)
The DLPC is a two-trimester evaluative program that provides remedial
enrichment and formative activities via five clusters of study: Faith
Formation, Personal Development (interpersonal & intrapersonal), Filipino
Sign Language, English, and Mathematics. Students are required to pass
this course before they gain entry into the degree program.

The Applied Deaf Studies program empowers Deaf young adults to become
productive and active members of society. The program aims to develop
Benildean leader-advocates who are competitive, capable and committed in
making positive contribution to their communities, industries, and the nation
at large.
By developing your competitive skills, and expertise, you will be given
the confidence and competence to become gainfully employed, perform
effectively in the workplace or be able to start your business.
You can choose between two tracks:
- The Computer Graphics Track prepares you for careers related to
graphic design and computer imaging. This track is for those who are
interested in new media design and communications, and other fields
using digital technologies. You will be trained in website design using
Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver, interactive design and authoring
using Macromedia Director, videography, photography, print design and
pre-press production.
- The Business Entrepreneurship Track prepares you to set up, operate
and manage small- to medium-level businesses. You will learn techniques in
producing food and non-food products. You will also develop competencies
in the areas of bookkeeping, accounting, and office management. It
also equips you with computer application knowledge that will help you
implement efficient and effective business operation processes.

We may not be fully aware of it but we encounter design and art
everyday, from structures where we live, study or work in, patterns
and construction of clothes we wear, ergonomics of our gadgets, to
the multimedia messages vying for our attention. Truly, design and art
have become integrated aspects of our modern existence. Creativity,
which fuels the sustainability of these things, determines the quality of
our lives today and in the future.
The School of Design and Arts (SDA) provides a wide scope of
offerings in specialized creative disciplines that meet the demands of
an information-driven world. Its degree programs in the fields of arts,
film, design, music, dance and multimedia, employ state-of-the-art
traditional and new media technologies backed up by a strong Design
Foundation program. The development of its curricula is moving
towards a balanced distribution of the arts, history, critical thinking,
design research, design process and methodology deep computer
intelligence, syllabi focus and contextual relevance to environment.
SDA has its own campus, a 14-storey academic complex envisioned
to be the home of the new generation of Filipino artists. It houses
various laboratories and materials where students can put into
practice and hone their passions, talents and unique artistic abilities.
The campus serves as a collaboration pod where students of different
majors are driven to pursue projects and learn together how creativity
can be useful for a society’s survival.

The AB in Animation program aims to strike a balance between commercial animation
and fine art animation. It is the first comprehensive program for future animators in the
country. You will focus on 2D animation, 3D animation and experimental animation. The
curriculum will cover the theoretical and practical studies of animation with an internship
program during the last year. The course includes basic design foundation subjects
and the business aspect of animation film production. By the final year, you will have a
project that will either be 2D, 3D or experimental in nature. An exhibit and a film festival
will be the culminating activity of the course.
Graduates of this program will find a career as animation artists for animated feature
films, TV series, TV spots, video games, web animations, mobile phone contents,
scientific and medical visualizations and animation producers, among others. You can
choose to work as in-house artist for animation studios or as an independent filmmaker.

Interest in careers related to the hotel, tourism and restaurant industries may be
due in part to the entrepreneurship and employment opportunities in such fields
here and abroad. The appeal is also a result of the hospitality industry’s renewed
mystique and glamour with the popularity of cooking and travel shows and the
rise to fame of celebrity chefs. With a growing and demanding market that’s
consistently looking for newer and better products and services, competition is
tough in this business. For newbies a strong foundation in theory matched by
on-the-job experience is what’s needed to come out on top.
The School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (SHRIM) prepares
future hoteliers, restaurateurs and tourism managers for the rigors and precision of
the hospitality industry. SHRIM imparts to its students the credo “The gold mark in
service is awarded only to those who consistently uphold the highest of standards”
which reinforces not only superior talent and skill but also the dilligence and
meticulousness required to excel in this field.
SHRIM offers two degrees with strong management orientation–the Hotel,
Restaurant and Institution Management (HRIM) and International Hospitality
Management (IHM). HRIM has three tracks of specialization: Culinary Arts,
Hospitality Management and Tourism Management. So whether it is running the
business end at the back of the house, engaging customers at the front of the
house or creating dishes in the kitchen, students are trained in all aspects of the
hotel, restaurant and tourism industry no matter what specialization they choose.
On the other hand, the International Hospitality Management track is a
double degree program which is offered in partnership with Institut Vatel, a
world-renowned hotel school in France. Both degree programs are run by SHRIM’s
roster of mentors, who are practicing professionals with work experiences in local
and international settings.
SHRIM has its own campus, the Angelo King International Center (AKIC), which
houses industry-level kitchen laboratories as well as a fully functional first-class
hotel. CSB Hotel is a hotel-school that caters to actual guests and stands as one
of the school’s main hatcheries where students can apply what they learn through
hands-on experience. Additional school hatcheries in all DLS-CSB campuses
are maintained for SHRIM students following the philosophy that true education
culminates in practice.

The Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management degree program integrates theory
and practice to provide you with a strong management and service orientation as well
as a global perspective of hotel and restaurant operations.
Students may choose from among the following fields of specialization:
- The Culinary Arts track is for those who want to create new dishes and
experiment in the kitchen. It nurtures your passion for food and its preparation. You will
learn to work in a professional kitchen using the latest tools and equipment to prepare
a variety of dishes while observing sanitation, safety and hygiene. You will also learn
butchery and fishmongery. Aside from an extensive knowledge of international cuisine,
you will also be taught about financial management, entrepreneurship, franchising and
small business management.
- The Hospitality Management track is for those who want to pursue a career in the
hotel industry or put up one’s own restaurant. It prepares you for a career in hospitality
services, which covers lodging and dining. You will learn to be aware and alert about
the minutest details in managing and operating hotels and restaurants. Aside from
learning the skills and customer-oriented attitudes expected of a professional hotelier
or restaurateur, you will also be instructed on the business management aspect of
restaurant and hotel operations.
- The Tourism Management track is for those who want to travel to different places
and meet many people. It prepares you to be a competitive player in the tourism
industry. You will learn to serve the travel needs of different clients and direct them to
places within the country and even the world. Aside from travel and tourism courses,
you will also take management and basic accounting courses along with a foreign
language and a personality development course.
Aside from becoming an entrepreneur, this degree will enable you to chart a
successful career in the following fields: lodging, food service, recreation, travel and
tourism-related businesses and government establishments.

The International Hospitality Management degree program is the first international
double-degree program in the Philippines under the new transnational guidelines of
the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The program is made possible through
DLS-CSB’s partnership with Institut Vatel, a well-recognized and highly reputed
hotel-school in France. With the partnership, DLS-CSB is now also known as Vatel
Manila. As a student of this degree program, you benefit from Vatel’s global curriculum
and worldwide network of schools and partners.
The program focuses on integrating theory and practice of hotel management with
a global management perspective. Your training includes intensive French language
training, specialized hospitality courses, and an expanded immersion, internship and
externship training.
At the end of the program, you will receive a Philippine Bachelor’s Degree and a French
Bachelor’s Degree in International Hospitality Management, which is recognized by the

Raising the Bar Once Again
De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) introduces its first-ever master’s
degree offering, the Master of Science in Tourism and Hospitality Management
(MSTHM). This graduate studies program in the field of hotel and tourism has
three tracks of specialization: Culinary Management, Tourism Management, and
Hospitality Management.
MSTHM is DLS-CSB’s response to the emerging need in the country to train
hospitality professionals into becoming critical decision-makers, who have
strong foundations in the business and science of hospitality, as well as strategic
development competencies in food products, travel, and service industries.
The program offers 18 units of core courses, followed by 18 units of subjects
from their track of specialization, and 6 units of electives. The culminating
requirement is a choice of either making a thesis, a strategic management
paper, or rendering practicum hours. Successful applicants whose
undergraduate degree is not HRM or Tourism are required to take nine (9) units
of foundation courses on hospitality and tourism.

The School of Management and Information Technology (SMIT) trains

The Game Design and Development Program (BSIT-GDD) is the
pioneer in game development education in the Philippines. The
GDDP is a hybrid program that emphasizes not only technical
competency (programming, math, physics, game design, and
artificial intelligence) and artistic fervor (asset creation, game
art and game animation, and sound design) but also business/
production competence all geared towards training the next
generation of game developers.
In line with Benilde’s commitment to develop industry-aligned
curricula, the GDDP is an active partner of Game Developers
Association of the Philippines (GDAP), as well as International
Game Developers Association-Manila Chapter (IGDA-Manila)—

In this increasingly borderless world, foreign affairs take on the more
complicated and yet subtle interrelations of culture, language, politics,
society and economics.
The School of Multidisciplinary Studies (SMS) offers Bachelor of Arts
major in Consular and Diplomatic Affairs (AB-CDA) for young minds
with a keen interest in politics and international relations. To go beyond
foreign service and international studies, Consular and Diplomatic Affairs
prepares students for a career path that ultimately leads to consular and
diplomatic posts.
Students are exposed to the dynamics of international relations through
on-the-job trainings at the Department of Foreign Affairs or various
foreign embassies and participation in global conferences such as the
preeminent Model United Nations Assembly. SMS also links with other
international agencies and networks with international non-profit cultural
organizations such as Instituto Cervantes and Alliance Francaise.
In addition, SMS is an integral part of Benildean education as the

The Angelo King International Center (AKIC)
Campus is a microcosm of the hospitality
industry. Inside the twelve-storey hotel-school are
function rooms; demonstration bar and kitchens;
institutional hot, cold and baking kitchens; food,
nutritional and computer laboratories. AKIC also
shares space with CSB Hotel, a fully functioning
hotel with 46 guest rooms and a fine dining
restaurant which serve as training facilities for
SHRIM students.
SHRIM maintains hatcheries as training venues
for its students: the Solomon Guest House, Vatel
Manila Restaurant and cafeterias at the Taft,
SDA and AKIC campuses. Here, the students
handle all the aspects of maintaining a canteen
or a restaurant, from the menu preparation and
budgeting, to cooking, to marketing and selling.

The SDA Campus boasts of facilities dedicated
to the arts and design. Its hallways have
museum lighting that can be converted to
exhibition spaces at any given time. The campus
has a 558-seat theater, a 105-seat cinema, a
contemporary arts museum, a Black Box for
alternative performances and a dance studio.
These serve as venues for productions and
collaborations by students. The campus also
has specialized lab rooms such as fashion and
industrial design work spaces, drafting and
illustration rooms, recording studio, multimedia
and animation studios and a green screen room.
An equipment center is also set up so students
can borrow a wide range of tools and equipment
from studio lights, cables, cameras and laptops.

There are no libraries in Benilde.
Instead, the College has the Br. Fidelis Leddy Learning Resource Center
(LRC) that houses a wide array of resources to support your researches–from
conventional print materials to audio and video tapes, transparencies, CDs
and electronic and online databases. Each year, LRC adds new materials to its
collection and upgrades equipment.
LRC has four separate facilities: two at the Taft Campus, (LRC-Main and the LRCExtension), one at the AKIC Campus, and another at the SDA Campus. These

technology needs of the College. The Center for Learner-Centered Instruction Research (CLCIR)

While you are busy studying, behind the scenes is
the College’s General Administrative Services
Department (GASD). GASD provides services
dedicated to facilities maintenance, logistics,
construction improvements, property control and
housekeeping. These auxiliary services ensure that
you get the best possible physical environment
for learning. GASD also handles the route of the
College’s e-jeepneys that make rounds in the three
DLS-CSB campuses and is available to you for free.
Benilde’s learning environment is safeguarded by a
dedicated security force. The Center for Safety and
Security (CSS) regularly monitors all entry and exit in the
three campuses and conducts emergency drills for safety
awareness. CSS employs K-9 dog units, CCTV cameras
and roaming security officers in civilian attire as measures
to maintain peace and order in the area.
Marshals assist Benildeans in crossing streets and riding
the e-jeepneys that make rounds in the three campuses.
Task Force Safe School is a project among Benilde, the
Western Police District Malate Police Station, De La Salle
University and St. Scholastica’s College. It aims to keep the
vicinities of the schools safe and secure, especially from
crimes and criminal elements.

The Center for Partnership and Development (C-PD) is the
advocacy and information arm of Benilde’s School of Deaf Education

Spiritual Development
Benilde provides programs for spiritual formation, retreats and recollections
through its Center for Lasallian Ministry (CLM). You are invited to attend
masses which are held everyday during lunchtime at Chapel of Resurrection
in Taft Campus, Chapel of Our Lady of Star in the AKIC Campus and Chapel
of Lasallian Martyrs in the SDA Campus. Each campus has a contemplation

The transition from high school to College can be a challenge.
To help you adjust, the Center for Counseling Services (CCS)
offers individual and group counseling, psychotherapy sessions,
crisis intervention, emergency services and personal development
programs, including seminars on family life enhancement.
CCS also provides counseling programs for student artists, foreign
students and children of OFWs. Workshops offered by CCS include
family skills, stress management, effective study habits, test anxiety
management, anger management and other life-skill training
programs. In addition, counselors are assigned to students to track
their development and provide complementary counseling needs.

(CDP), which is a night program.
Expanded Tertiary Education
Equivalency and Accreditation
Program (ETEEAP) Applicants
Interested ETEEAP applicants must first inquire and submit a
comprehensive resume to SHRIM before proceeding with your
application.
To qualify, you must be a Filipino citizen, who is at least a
high school graduate with no college degree. You must be
at least 25 years of age and has at least five years of work
experience in your field of specialization, the past two years
of which must be at least in supervisory level. If you attended
seminar(s) and workshop(s), these must be related to your
field of specialization. DLS-CSB will assess the relevance of
the seminars and workshops with regards to your ETEEAP
application.
ETEEAP is intended for working professionals who wish
to complete a bachelor’s degree through their professional
achievements. DLS-CSB’s School of Hotel, Restaurant and
Institution Management (SHRIM) offers the ETEEAP program
and conducts pre-screening of applicants.
You must first inquire and submit a comprehensive resume to
SHRIM before proceeding with your application.
Candidates for ETEEAP are also required to have good moral
character and professional work ethics as certified by past and
current employers. You should have no criminal record and no
pending ETEEAP applications with other institutions.
There are particular requirements for various ETTEAP applicants.

The Top 10 Honors is awarded to currently enrolled students who are in the top ten
honors list for each school year and are given meal, transportation and book allowance.
The Vatel Scholarship is awarded to the best-ranking IHM students who have
completed five academic terms in SHRIM.
The Center for Institutional Communications (CIC) Student Assistant Grant is for
currently enrolled student assistants of the CIC who are recommended for tuition
discount by the CIC Director.
The Office of Culture and Arts Grant is for currently enrolled student-artists of the OCA
who are recommended for tuition discount by the OCA Head.
The Student Publications Grant-Benildean (SPG-B) is for currently enrolled student
writers and artists of the Student Publications Office (SPO) who are recommended for
tuition discount by the SPO Head.
The Benildean Student Envoys program is for currently enrolled students who will
serve as ambassadors of the College in special events and linkage programs, and
are recommended by the Director of the Center for External Linkages, Alumni and
Development (CELAD). You are entitled to tuition subsidy, uniform, trainings and
development, and activity-related allowances.
The Student Assistantship Program provides the opportunity for the College’s full
scholars/grantees to work on campus. SGO deploys qualified students to school offices

You can take the bus headed towards Quiapo via Taft Avenue at Ayala Avenue in
Makati City. If you are coming from Laguna (San Pedro, Biñan, or Calamba), there are
buses that ply the South Luzon Expressway route up to the vicinity of the College.
