What does it take to be a
successful Chautauqua Performer?
It takes an extraordinary person to succeed on
the Chautauqua stage: part scholar, part actor - i.e,
gifted in both research and performance skills. In
this course, the art and technique of Chautauqua
performance will be presented by experienced
Chautauqua performers. There will be classes in
research, stage presence, costuming, storytelling,
and Q&A, among others.
You’ll see theory in action as you attend
performances and discuss them afterwards. And
you’ll be coached for your own performance.
When you have completed the course you will
receive a Certificate of Participation.
The best part about having training during
the Festival is observing seasoned Chautauqua
performers in action. This year Greenville Chautauqua will present “American Legends,” featuring
Susan B. Anthony, Davy Crockett, Malcolm X, and
Herman Melville. For a complete Festival schedule,
go to our website.
On the final day, you will have a chance to
appear on the Chautauqua stage in a cameo
performance for your classmates.
