BOY OUT OF THE COUNTRY
GENRE | THEATRE
Starring Jane Clifton, Matt Dyktynski, Amanda La Bonte, Christopher
Bunworth and Martin Blum, Boy out of the Country is a funny, fast paced
laugh out loud comedy that tells a story of land, family and belonging.
A family property, worthless for generations, is suddenly zoned as
part of a regional housing estate to accommodate an ever increasing
urban sprawl. At this moment of shifting economies and loyalties,
Hunter returns from a seven year absence. Finding his boyhood
house boarded up and his mother in a retirement home, Hunter goes
in search of answers. And he starts with his brother Gordon.
Award winning poet and playwright Felix Nobis has created a play
where an old Australia meets a new Australia; where a country cop
comes to terms with catchment areas; where a fifth bedroom is more
important than a backyard; and where new technologies have the
potential to uncover old family secrets.

EDUCATING RITA
by Willy Russell
GENRE | THEATRE
Frank is a cynical, burnt out English professor, who drinks far too
much whiskey. Rita is a hairdresser and a bit naive. She has however,
a wonderful and indeed desperate thirst for knowledge and she
chooses Frank of all people to introduce her to culture. Frank soon
discovers that Rita has a lot more common sense than the so-called
educated class within which he moves. He begins to fall in love with
Rita for her zest for life, her almost childlike qualities and her simple,
natural intelligence. But Rita’s life soon changes in this new environment.
Two very different worlds then collide, merging to produce a
charming human comedy and a wonderfully entertaining modern
day Pygmalion.

HIPPO! HIPPO! A BIG NEW Musical Adventure!
GENRE | CHILDRENS THEATRE
HIPPO! HIPPO! A BIG NEW Musical Adventure! is based on the
phenomenally successful children’s classic, “There’s a Hippopotamus
on Our Roof Eating Cake”, written by Australian children’s author
Hazel Edwards and illustrated by Deborah Niland.
HIPPO is the imaginary friend of GIRL, a young child. GIRL believes
that HIPPO lives on the roof and can seemingly do anything he wants,
when he wants, how he wants, particularly the things that GIRL is
unable or not allowed to do. Through HIPPO, GIRL is able to allay her
fears and gain confidence in her early childhood years.
Joyful and brimming with childhood wonder, HIPPO! HIPPO! A BIG
NEW Musical Adventure! will make you laugh and maybe even make
you cry, but most of all, it is guaranteed to lift your spirits in a BIG and
UNBEATABLE way!
Educating Rita was written by Shirley Valentine playwright Willy
Russell and premiered in 1980. The stage play and popular film
version have gone on to entertain audiences worldwide, and is
considered a comedy classic.
No kid is too big or too small for this unforgettable experience.
Directed by AFI award winning director Denny Lawrence. Starring
Francesca Bianchi and Helpmann award winner Colin Moody.
Based on the books written by Hazel Edwards and illustrated by
Deborah Niland. This adaptation is produced under exclusive
license from Penguin Books Australia.

ARCHÈ
GENRE | DANCE
In Greek Mythology Archè indicates the beginning; the principle
from which the elements rise and the force that explains their birth and
death. Spiritually, the figure of the swan is seen as a messenger of the
gods and is associated with divinity itself.
This production sees the company’s Artistic Director and Resident
Choreographer, Simon Hoy, evoke the powerful symbolism and
ethereal image of the swan within Greek mythology and Irish folklore.
Drawing inspiration from classics such as W.B Yeats’ ‘Leda and
the Swan’ and Swan Lake’s ‘Odette’ and ‘The Dying Swan’, Hoy
has composed a marvellously powerful and uplifting program of
contemporary ballet that is stimulated by the fundamental concept of
evolution and rebirth.

Simon’s a bit of a no-hoper, and he’s going deaf. He goes in search
of a magical – but possibly mythical – island where, he thinks, he
will find some consolation. To make the journey, Simon teams up with
Michael, a dull banker with a grey suit and a grey life, and Michael’s
wife, Ginny, who is disillusioned and about to leave him. Also along
for the ride is Claude, Michael’s boss, a blisteringly annoying
blockhead with zero social skills.
Filling these four larger-than-life characters are four comic actors
whose experience ranges from The Lion King to Circus Oz, and
who’ve displayed those talents around the country and the world.

DROWNING IN
VERONICA LAKE
Horsham Town Hall

a Flaxworks theatre
company production.
ALWAYS… PATSY CLINE
In 1940s Hollywood, Veronica Lake set the standard for selfdestructive celebrities. Smart, sexy, and typecast early in her career
as the ice-cool femme fatale, she was thrust into the limelight at an
early age. Naïve and unprepared, she left in her wake a polarised
industry who either loved or loathed her.
Thursday 22 September, 8pm
She took tea with Eleanor Roosevelt, piloted her own plane
from coast to coast, was famously sued by her own mother and
bankrupted by the IRS before a rapid descent into scandal,
alcoholism and a premature and lonely death. Now, 70 years later,
trapped somewhere between Paramount and Purgatory, she wrestles
with stardom, booze, men, and her spectacular decline into obscurity.

ALWAYS… Patsy Cline is much more than a tribute to the legendary
country singer who died tragically at age 30 in a plane crash in
1963. The show is based on a true story about Cline’s friendship
with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger, who befriended the
star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961, and continued a correspondence
with Cline until her death.

Art is made here, it reflect on our histories; indigenous, colonial
and recent. It allows us to understand our relationships born out of
working with and on the land; to look ahead to our farming future. It
even celebrates our local humour. Beyond our usual response to the

Mack Jost’s Collection traverses the great traditions of Australian art
history. From classical portraiture and landscapes to contemporary
works purchased through the Mack Jost Trust, we sample this
important gift to our city.
It was Mack Jost’s promise to bequeath his art collection to the City
of Horsham in 1983 that established the Gallery’s home in Wilson
Street. His gift not only improved the diversity and quality of art our
residents could enjoy, it transformed our gallery from a single room
into the institution we are today. Mack Jost deeply understood the joy
that the arts could bring to a life. With Album Leaves we celebrate
that belief.
