On behalf of Logansport and Cass County, I extend to you a heartfelt welcome to our community. Our diverse
community is proud of our historic past, yet we remain ever mindful of the strategic initiatives necessary to build
a dynamic thriving community today and into the future.
Always present are two beautiful rivers to remind us that Logansport is more than just a place where two rivers
meet, but where friendships are formed, families are raised and businesses grow.
The Hoosier Heartland Corridor highway truly represents the resounding theme in our community: At the core of
Logansport, Hoosiers are giving their all to show the world we are the heart of Indiana. So, whether you are
stopping by for a quick meal on your way to another destination, or here to enjoy a memorable cultural
experience, or you are making Cass County your new home, we welcome you and we wish that you find our
community one to be remembered and revisited.
Respectfully,
Brian Shafer,
IOM, President/CEO The Logansport/Cass County, IN
Chamber of Commerce
Logansport-Cass County is a region that thrives on partnerships that drive the area’s high quality of life.
Logansport-Cass County is centrally located, making the drives to the metropolitan areas of Chicago,
Indianapolis, South Bend and Fort Wayne a breeze. The Wabash and Eel rivers meet here, allowing scenery and
outdoor recreational activities to abound.
The roots of this powerful region go as far back as 1826, when the first permanent European settler arrived in
present-day Logansport. The settler, Alexander Chamberlain, began providing overnight shelter to travelers,
establishing the area’s hospitality and business-mindedness early on. Colonel John B. Duret proposed that the
area be called Captain Logan in honor of a Shawnee Indian who had befriended the settlers, but Logan’s Port, in
reference to the town’s unique two-river border and now popularly known as Logansport, seemed more fitting.
The people of Logansport-Cass County invite you to enjoy the river valley, prime location and rich history while
visiting, starting a family, retiring or joining the competitive and rewarding business landscape. Welcome!
Logansport-Cass County is located in north central Indiana. The drives to Indianapolis, South Bend and Fort
Wayne are approximately an hour and a half each and the drive to Chicago is a little over two and a half hours.
Road travel is easy here, with State Routes 17, 25, 29 and 218 as well as U.S. Routes 24 and 35 serving the area.
A new four-lane corridor is under construction between Logansport and Lafayette, completing a Federal High
Priority Corridor between Lafayette and the ports in Toledo, OH.
Air travel is accessed with ease here, too. The Logansport/Cass County Airport serves the needs of business and
recreational aircraft and is located three miles south of Logansport. There are also two international airports in
Indiana: the Indianapolis International Airport, which is serviced by 11 airlines, and the Fort Wayne International
Airport. Other airports within easy driving distance include South Bend Regional Airport and the Purdue
University Airport.
Seniors, too, can have their transportation needs easily met. Cass Area Transit provides transportation for senior
citizens and can be accessed at 115 South Sixth Street, Logansport, IN, 574-753-5555, www.casstransit.com.
There is much to do and see in the Logansport-Cass County area, especially for those who enjoy exploring the
great outdoors or examining the annals of Logansport-Cass County’s storied past.
Perhaps Logansport’s most famous landmark is the Cass County Dentzel Carousel. Located at Riverside Park,
Dentzel Carousel is on the National Register of Historic Places. The merry-go-round has 44 wooden animals that
were hand-carved by Gustav Dentzel, tracing back to at least 1902.
The Little Turtle Waterway and Trail can be found in the heart of downtown Logansport. This trail was the
beginning of Logansport’s trail efforts, setting a precedent for all the new trails to come, including the awardwinning River Bluff trail and the Hervey Preserve nature trail.
There are also several museums in the area, such as the Cole Clothing Museum, the Cass County Historical
Society and Museum and the Iron Horse Depot, which showcase what Logansport is best known for: its railroads.
What also helps make Logansport a great destination is the annual Light-Up Logansport Parade, held in
November each year.
Shoppers can find a variety of goods from numerous stores, shopping centers and malls in the Logansport-Cass
County area. Logansport Mall, located on 3900 East Market Street, offering food, gift shops and sportswear at
stores including Dunham’s Sports, JC Penney, Sears, Radio Shack and Bath & Body Works, among many others.
The mall is also home to Avis Nails, Regis Hair Salon, Sears Optical and Sears Portrait and Check Into Cash.
There are several specialty boutiques in the downtown Logansport area as well, primarily on Market Street and
Broadway. A few of these include the gift and souvenir shops of La Esperanza, Village Peddler, The Nest &
Trees Camera Shop and the Fancy Flea; Fernbaugh’s Jewelers; Minglin Jewelers and Judy’s Goodlife Emporium,
a health store, plus more. The community also houses Rural King, a farm department store, as well as the
department stores of Walmart, Big Lots and the convenience stores of CVS and Walgreens. For a more complete
listing of the area’s shopping options, refer to www.visit-casscounty.com.
With a hometown feel and prime location—Logansport is near enough to cosmopolitan centers like Indianapolis
and Lafayette, but far enough for residents to enjoy a somewhat pastoral lifestyle—Logansport-Cass County is an
ideal location to make a home. The housing market is inexpensive and highly desirable. Average house and
condo values sit just shy of $79,000*—around $46,000 less than the State of Indiana’s average housing value of
$125,200*. The average value of a detached house is $85,557*, with townhouses and other attached units valued
at an average of $68,712. Some residential properties do top out between $400,000-$600,000, proving that
Logansport-Cass County can accommodate bigger families and diverse lifestyles.
For those who prefer to rent rather than own, there are several apartment options in Logansport, including
Meadowood and Logan Ridge Apartments, both managed by Spinnaker Property Management. All of
Logansport’s homes, townhouses, apartments and duplexes are proximal to shopping, dining, schools, museums
and more.
Cass County has a Neighborhood Watch program to keep Logansport and its surrounding towns safe via
community involvement. Implementing a Neighborhood Watch program in your neighborhood not only reduces
crime and increases security, but it also drives property values up when the community is perceived as safer and
more secure. You can contact the Cass County Emergency Management Agency (574-722-2484) about starting
the Neighborhood Watch process, which can be beneficial for your family and your finances.

There are plenty of higher education options in the area, too. Ivy Tech Community College, operating four
campuses, has a regional campus located in Logansport. Ivy Tech is the college of choice for over 110,000
Hoosier students each year and can boast that it is Indiana’s most affordable college. Additionally, in 2010, Trine
University opened a School of Professional Studies near the city’s business district. Several other higher
education options, both public and private, are just a couple hours’ drive away.
