Day One - Depart and coach to Columbus, Ohio, the capital of the Buckeye State!
After check-in at the hotel visit Easton Town Center- a unique shopping/entertainment complex
unlike any shopping center you have ever seen. Easton has an ever expanding list of the nation’s
premier retailers. That’s why over 21-million people visit every year! From Nordstrom and Macy’s to
Coach, Apple, Victoria’s Secret, Crate and Barrel, and more, Easton offers a diverse retail mix in an
open-air pedestrian friendly setting. So drop by and shop till you well, you get the idea. Explore the
many shops, restaurants, entertainment areas. Let's talk Turkish, Italian and Brazilian, too. Easton
has a mouth-watering mix of diverse restaurants. Crowd pleasers like The Cheesecake Factory and
California Pizza Kitchen. Casual cafés like Cosí and Panera Bread. Easton originals Bon Vie and
Brio. And fine fare at the likes of Smith & Wollensky and Mitchell’s Ocean Club. From Mexican to
Mediterranean and every cuisine in between, whatever you’re hungry for, Easton has it. Maybe
have a treat at Graeters ice cream at the mall! You will be staying for the next two nights at the
Embassy Suites.
Day Two- Today we will visit the Longaberger Complex. See firsthand how Longaberger baskets
are made with a Basket making Floor Tour! The baskets are
made just like they were over 100 years ago — one at a time and
made by hand. Longaberger, as classic, as simple and as good as
ever. You will be met by a Basket making Ambassador that will
guide you along the tour.
Decorating with Longaberger is easy! Change the look and feel of
a room for every season. Mix in a few new baskets with your
current décor and create a look all your own. Couldn't be easier or
more beautiful, even makes great gifts.
You will have time to enjoy some of the great food offered. Miller's Homestead Restaurant: Features
made from scratch "Home Cooking" recipes passed down for generations. Try the signature dishes
that include Slow Roasted Beef, Homemade Chicken & Noodles and real Mashed Potatoes, to name
just a few. Miller's Bakery has a variety of breads, pies, fudge and cookies all made from scratch
daily. Be sure to get a jar of the popular peanut butter spread or grab a chicken salad wrap or salad
with our homemade dressings.
For desert we will visit the Velvet Ice Cream Factory. Get a lesson in history
when you visit an authentic 1800s mill. You can take a tour and see ice
cream being made and learn what it takes to produce more than 6 million
gallons of velvety smooth ice cream every year. Then enjoy the Ice Cream
Parlour, experience your favorite flavor, shake or sundae in the turn-of thecentury parlour and remember your day with a unique gift or souvenir from
the gift shop.
After this exciting visit, we will then proceed to the historic German Village. German Village is an
internationally recognized historic district just blocks from downtown Columbus, Ohio, and has much
to offer. The 233-acre district offers a glimpse of how a working-class neighborhood developed and
grew in the early nineteenth century and how the passion of a small group drove the twentieth
century rehabilitation efforts. You will take a guided two hour tour conducted by the German Village
Society. They will lead you through the brick streets lined with quaint homes, gardens, shops,
galleries, and restaurants of the area while they explain the history, humor and humanity of the community. The Explore Beyond the Door tour invites you to explore two private German Village homes.
This is a wonderful way to see the innovative renovation and design efforts of today’s residents.
Hope you’re hungry! You are going to enjoy a beautiful Old World German
Buffet dinner and entertainment “German Style” will be included this
evening. Schmidt’s Restaurant and Banquet Haus is the culmination of five
generations of the Schmidt family working to bring real German food and
authentic German hospitality to the community. Known for their decadent
Jumbo Cream Puffs and signature Bahama Mamas, Schmidt’s has been a
staple in German Village for more than 120 years. Schmidt’s, a nationally registered historic site
tucked away in German Village, is located in a historic brick livery stable. Upon entering the
restaurant, you quickly realize the atmosphere is second-to-none. With a beautiful banquet haus
upstairs and live German music throughout the week, Schmidt’s takes the German experience
beyond their one-of-a-kind menu items and transports you to your own piece of Germany, right in the
heart of Ohio. Schmidt’s began crafting its German cuisine in 1886. Today their menu features
some of the most original and delicious German dinners. Whether it’s the appetizing Alpine Chicken
Spatzel or the well-prepared Weiner Schnitzel und Gravy, Schmidt’s has just what you’re looking for.
