Ann Zeleny!
OM
About the Artist:
Ann Zeleny began her career as an artist sculpting
architectural ornament, exploring historical motifs like the
green man and the cornucopia. While she still works in her
original field, more than a decade ago her focus shifted to
creating original sculptures that utilize these archetypal
forms to express her themes. A multi-media artist, she is
also a musician, fiber crafts artist, and designer/creator
of edible sculpture.
Her thoughts: “I’m a sucker for nature-inspired
ornament, pure geometry, and pure color…
I believe that provoking a viewer to experience beauty
is reason enough for a thing to exist. So, aside from any
dynamic tension a piece might require, I relentlessly work
to refine a flowing harmony of lines, shapes, and colors.”

Our Guarantee
Sacred Source offers a full guarantee of
satisfaction on all items, as well as the deep
appreciation of our community in Calcutta for
your patronage. Simply return any unsuitable
item within 15 days for complete refund,
credit, or exchange. Use the return form on
the back of your invoice or download and
print a return form online. Please note: Our
photographs usually depict the finish you
will receive, but because all our statues are
handmade, finishes will occasionally vary.
Hand painted Ganges clay statues are delicately
finished using traditional methods and are not
suitable for exposure to water and will dissolve
if immersed. Gypsumstone is more durable
and intended for indoor use only. Statues made
from ResinPlus are suitable for outdoor use.
The finish may weather over time. Cold cast
bronze is a mixture of bronze powder, Ganges
clay and resin. Most of our statues are a blend
of resin and Ganges clay powder and given a
beautiful hand finish.

Dear Friends,
Picture a village of Hindu handcraft artisans,
singing devotional chants as they shape sculptures
with hand-made tools, just as their families have
done for generations. It sounds like an idyllic story
from the past. And it is. But it is also a true story
of today, at least for the artisans of Sacred Source.
When you select a sacred image from us, we hope
it brings to you the blessings of peace, well-being,
good fortune, and joy. Every person deserves a
little piece of beauty to soothe the soul. Every
living space needs a spiritual heart, a sacred center
that defines the home as an oasis of calm and
harmony, relief from the constant stresses of the
outside world. This is what we wish for you.
Through all these years, we have remained a
small company committed to improving the
lives of traditional handcraft artisans, while
preserving their culture and the environment, and
encouraging spiritual awareness around the world.
With your support, we continue our mission.
Blessings and Namaste,
Liana and Pete Kowalzik
and all of us at Sacred Source
The Sacred Source Story
In 1978, while serving with Mother Teresa,
Freeman Allan came up with the idea of importing
clay statues to the United States to benefit the
poor traditional artisans he met there. He became
friends with a Hindu couple, who offered to help
organize the India/U.S. partnership, and so JBL
began.
Originally, they sold a small set of Hindu and
Buddhist “Murtis” or statues. The very first ads
ran in Hinduism Today magazine. In response
to customer demand for western images such
as Lilith and Willendorf, they launched the JBL
Statues catalog, one of the pioneers in building
awareness of sacred images in the U.S. You may
still see JBL Statues referenced in many books,
articles and websites.
The name was changed to Sacred Source to
more closely reflect our purpose. Liana and Pete
Kowalzik bought the business in 2001 when
Freeman was ready to retire. After 30 years, we
remain true to the original missions: supporting
our cooperative of handcraft artisan families;
offering a large selection of sacred images made
with Ganges River clay content; and facilitating
personal spiritual growth.

Your Spiritual Statue’s Story
We develop the design for your
devotional image to reflect the intentions
of the artist, whether it was created
300,000 years ago or today. Our master
artisans sculpt the image prototype, then
mold small batches of statues by hand
in durable, environmentally friendly
materials. Your statue is lovingly finished
for lasting beauty, then carefully packed
for its long ocean voyage to America.
When you call the Gaia Center, we
strive for excellent customer service
and ship your order promptly. We know
you are waiting with
anticipation for the
arrival of your new
spiritual art piece.

Understanding the Hindu/Buddhist Tantra Tradition
Yab yum. Yoni-lingam. Sacred union.
Om mani padme hum . . .
Sacred Hindu texts include sexual imagery, which scholars believe is
meant to be taken as metaphor; a dialog between the goddess and god.
The intent of the deities in the yab yum pose is the same as the
yoni-lingam forms
worshiped in every Shiva temple in India.
For some modern Hindu Tantra practitioners, the union of Shiva and
Shakti expresses the sacredness of sexuality as a path to spiritual union.
Khajuraho Temple

Statues similar to these are found in the Tibetan Buddhist Tantra
tradition, representing Buddha and Bodhisattva in union.
