The Luminator has made history. The Luminator is always used
under the most difficult conditions worldwide when the best
possible illumination, maximum stability and resistance are in
demand. For a long time, the name has been a benchmark of

The Luminator is a full-metal headlight. The housing, bracket,
glass retaining ring and reflector are all made of metal.
Special high-boost reflectors provide maximum light output.
As one of the most diverse series of off-road auxiliary lights,
the Luminator family includes numerous headlight modules in
a range of different lighting technologies. Regardless of who

The first Luminator auxiliary light with 100% LED technology – equipped
with high-performance LED for high beam and LED position light in
Kartoval lenses. When switched on, the clear, cool white LED light reveals
a distinctive light design by day and by night. The high efficiency of the
HELLA triple reflector and computer-optimised fine tuning between the
LED light source and the free-form technology delivers homogeneous
light distribution and outstanding road illumination.

or halogen bulbs, xenon technology achieves improved visibility

For limited installation space
The Compact version of the Luminator is a response to the limited
installation space on some vehicle models. Technologically just as
advanced as the larger models, the smaller series delivers the same
stability, resistance and comparable light output. The Luminator
Compact variants can be mounted upright. Exception: The Luminator
Compact Xenon with integrated ballast can be mounted upright at an
angle of +7° to -7°.

The Rallye headlight differs from the Luminator series primarily
in terms of its housing material. Instead of metal, the housing
of the Rallye headlight uses high-quality plastic with superb
material properties. Not only does this material make the
headlight significantly lighter, it is also resistant to corrosion and
is maintenance-free. The reinforced housing structure increases
stability and the real glass lens ensures durable resistance to
scratches.
The Rallye series provides perfect solutions for different vehicles
and mounting situations using the same technology but in
different sizes. If the headlight is going to be mounted on a more
delicate part of the vehicle, smaller housing with lower weight
has definite advantages. If you are looking for maximum light
output, you may prefer the larger Rallye 3003.

The Jumbo series is characterised by its slightly rounded
rectangular shape. This housing shape makes the series ideal
for the front of the vehicle; especially where mounting a large

Vehicles with daytime running lights can be seen better and the light intensity is adjusted so that they are not perceived as blinding
– a real warning that requires less energy and fuel than low beam. Anyone with daytime running lights does not need to worry about
lighting as the daytime running lights are automatically switched on with the ignition. If the low beam is switched on, the daytime
running lights are automatically disabled.

The 70A high-frequency charger is a fully automatic 8-stage
charger, perfect to attach to the vehicle during repair and
servicing to compensate for power output. This ensures that
the battery is always fully charged. The charging current can
be set to between 70A for 12V batteries (battery capacity of
40 - 1500Ah) and 35A for 24V batteries (battery capacity of 20 750Ah).

We don't just talk about quality, we live it. And we are always attempting to perfect it all over again. We
monitor quality as strictly and rigorously as we can in every product of every series of every day. With the
latest technology, advanced testing methods in accordance with the type approval requirements of the ECE
approval process and our own high standards, we are simply better than all the others. And it will stay
that way.
Heat, humidity and cold test
In temperature cycle tests, HELLA
products are exposed to temperature
fluctuations from - -40 to +100 degrees
Celsius in climatic exposure test cabinets
with volumes of 600 to 1000 litres.
Condensation and de-condensation
tests are performed up to a maximum
humidity of 95% and up to +80°C. In
the aptly named "shock cabinet", the
temperature varies between -40 °C and
+100 °C in a matter of seconds. These
tests put intense stress on every material,
from the lighting to the individual
electronic components. The heat and cold
tests last up to 48 hours. Test reports
are archived at HELLA for a period of 15
years.
Vibration test
This test simulates the behaviour of
the products on a “rough-road track"
and measures, for example, how the
vehicle responds to potholes, gravel and
dirt roads and farm tracks. Special rally
profiles are tested for selected products
such as auxiliary lights. Mechanical
endurance is tested in the wide band
random vibration test.
The frequency range is 10 to 1000Hz. All
products undergo function testing for up
to 24 hours. A mechanical shock test is
also performed to simulate the behaviour
on impact (for example, boxed products
during shipping) at an acceleration of 300
to 500 m/s2.
Spray water test
HELLA products are tested under real
environmental conditions in universal
spray booths. The booths are equipped
with equipment to simulate rain, flood
water, water jets and spray mist. The
test products are tested for leaks at a
pressure of up to 5 bar in the dripping and
spray water test and at a pressure of up
to 10 bar in the water jet test.

Research and development. As in the field of stress testing where we test our products on the durability of
the material and light source, HELLA headlights undergo continuous quality and performance tests for light
distribution and radiation intensity. They are granted approval under the type approval requirements of the EU
approval process. Different tasks require different headlights. The result is headlights of the highest quality –
perfectly matched to the most diverse requirements under extreme conditions.
The Lux unit
As a unit of illuminance, Lux defines the
luminous flux from a light source that
hits a specified surface. For example, an
office should be illuminated with at least
500 Lux and with just 1 Lux the human
eye can read a newspaper without any
problem. The values along the Lux bar
show where the respective illuminance
is achieved in the light distribution
diagrams.

reflector in pure aluminium under a high
vacuum. A protective layer of just a few
nanometres on the reflector guarantees
high headlight performance permanently.

The high-boost reflector
High-boost reflectors are specially
developed by HELLA to provide
maximum light output. Compared to
standard commercial auxiliary lights
of similar size, HELLA auxiliary lights
with high-boost reflectors deliver a
The "Ref." reference number
The reference number is a value
applicable to spotlights. According to the
ECE Regulation in effect since 2009, the
sum of the reference numbers of all the
installed headlights must not exceed the
upper limit of 100 per vehicle. The two
values of the standard high beam (left
and right main headlights) plus the values
of any other extra spotlights are added
together. The reference number of HELLA
spotlights as well as the E-type approval
mark can be found in the catalogue for
each model. A high beam with a 17.5
reference number emits a wide and full
beam, but not as much as a high beam
with a 37.5 reference number. A high
beam Ref. 37.5 is therefore ideal for
long, straight distances, while a high
beam Ref. 17.5 can illuminate curved
routes (especially mountainous areas)
better. Attention: In some countries, a
maximum high beam power of only 75
(reference value) may be connected. In
those countries, the high beam integrated
into the vehicle must be inoperative when

using the Ref. 37.5 high beam; however,
the Ref. 17.5 high beam can generally be
connected in addition.
The right light source
Light sources are always installed
in all xenon headlights. Light Power
lamps achieve maximum light output
in the halogen range, whereas the
Lifetime series is particularly durable.
In Celis (Central Lighting Systems)
technology, either fibre-optic cables or
small plastic rods bring the light from a
central light source to the desired area.
LED headlights mark a revolutionary
innovation in the field of automotive
lighting as the current culmination of
rapid development.

Using Isolux diagrams, we can illustrate and compare light distributions. The red-orange colour indicates the area
of high intensity illumination; the illuminance falls from yellow to green to blue depending on the distance from the
