The Pylon Mounted Gun System (PMGS) is an adapted 30mm weapons package that can be integrated onto
most medium and heavy-lift aircraft. The PMGS enables utility aviation platforms to be transformed into
assault aircraft with little integration or modification. The fire control can be integrated into existing electrooptic sensors and cyclic controls.

PMGS Components:
The Multi-Station Light Armament Support Structure (MSLASS)
— The MLSASS is a weapon pylon design that supports a two-station
armament on both sides of the aircraft. This design is similar to the
Light Armament Support Structure (LASS) used by the U.S. Army, but
incorporates a unique feature that allows rapid loading of ATK’s
onboard 30mm Chain Gun. Because of its composite structure, the
wing is more than 350 pounds lighter than the original equipped wing.
The 660-round Linkless Ammunition Feed System — Meggitt
Defense offers the system in both electric or hydraulic drives. The 660round magazine incorporates proven hardware technology for the
Merger, the Accelerator, and at its heart, the Linear Linkless Chain
Ladder, for storage and transfer of lightweight (LW) 30mm rounds.
The M230 Chain Gun — ATK’s LW30mm single-barrel automatic
cannon is an electrically operated Chain Gun using external power
instead of recoil to load its rounds. The M230 Chain Gun is used by
the U.S. Army on the AH-64 Apache and the MH-60L Direct Action
Penetrator (DAP) helicopters. The M230 uses a 2 hp electric motor to
load 30mm linkless ammunition at a rate of 625 rounds-per-minute.
The gun has a positive cook-off safety for open bolt clearing, and
double ram prevention.
