Offenbach / Kronberg,July 31st, 2014 – In spring 1954, Schloss Friedrichshof, which
Empress Frederick used as a dowager‘s estate until her death in 1901, was presented
to the public as the Schlosshotel Kronberg. Built between 1889 and 1893 based on
her proposals, to this day the castle, which has been maintained in a Tudor style, is
one of the most exceptional castles in Germany. In the early 20th century, almost all
of the monarchs in Europe stayed at the castle and enjoyed the company of the
liberal hostess.
After Victoria‘s death it went through an eventful period. The art collection in particular
suffered in the chaos of war and the period of occupation by the American forces.
Schloss Friedrichshof was only returned to the family which owns it, the Landgraves
and Princes of Hesse, in 1953. At that point the decision was made to convert the
gem into a hotel. On 15 April 1954 the time had come and the Schlosshotel Kronberg
opened its doors. Initially, 30 rooms and the empress‘s historical salons and lounges
were available to guests.
Six decades and many renovations later, the five-star luxury hotel is shining even
brighter. Sixty-two rooms in an English country house style, including eleven suites
and a Royal Suite are now available to guests, which have been built or redesigned
during the renovations. Each room has a personal touch and is equipped with the
latest technology and new bathrooms – no one room is the same as any other.
Exclusive materials, upholstery and carpets combined with holistic colour and room
concepts define the stylish design. The rooms not only offer guests a view of the
beautiful castle gardens, but also an exclusive panoramic view of Kronberg castle,
the Taunus and the impressive skyline of the nearby metropolis of Frankfurt.
