MADRAS UNIVERSITY FREE EDUCATION SCHEME (MUFES) 2016-2017
The Free Education Scheme is to assist the students who are unable to pursue their
higher education in undergraduate courses in the Aided/Self-Finance Colleges only affiliated to
University of Madras, owing to financial constrain (Tuition fee and Hostel fee only).
The students residing in Chennai, Thirvallur, and Kancheepuram districts are
eligible to apply. The selection will be made on the basis of Economic status cum merit.
The Eligible Candidates will be Selected on the basis of the following
conditions:1. This scheme is applicable only for students appeared for +2 examination during March 2016.
2. The Family income should not exceed Rs. 2,00,000/- P.A.
3. The Family should not own a house or land.
4. The Orphans, Widow’s Children, Transgender, disabled, should obtain 50% of Marks
5. The Candidates should be the First Graduate in the family, should obtain 60% of Marks
6. The Candidates whose mothers have been deserted, should obtain 70% of marks
7. Other candidates who have secured 80% and above marks will be considered on the basis of
Economic and Family Circumstances
8. The Candidates should have passed all subjects in first attempt.
9. The last date for submission of application is 06.06.2016
10. The Candidates should produce proof of documentary evidence such as Income Certificate,
Community Certificate from the Revenue Department, Ration Card, First Generation Graduation
Certificate, etc.. failing which the application will summarily be rejected.

Madras University Free Education Scheme
PRESS RELEASE
University of Madras has introduced “Madras University Free
Education Scheme” from the academic year 2010-2011 onwards to
help the poor students to pursue a degree course in the Madras
University affiliated colleges in the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur and
Kancheepuram. Applications are now invited for pursuing a degree
course during the ensuing academic year 2016-2017 in the aided and
self-financing colleges affiliated to University of Madras and located in
the above three districts.
Preference will be given to economically backward students,
orphans, children of agricultural labourers, daily wage earners, widows
and destitute women and also to the First graduation of the family. The
annual income of the family seeking admission for degree course under
free education scheme should be less than rupees two lakhs.
The application form and other details for the free education
scheme can be obtained from the University’s Public Relations Office at
Chepauk Campus. It can also be downloaded from the University’s
website (www.unom.ac.in). The filled-in application along with
photocopies (Xerox) of the required certificates should be submitted to
the Registrar, University of Madras, Chepauk, Chennai – 600 005 either
in person or by post on or before 06.06.2016.
