You’ll find a Mecca for cross-country
skiing in Grand Rapids. There are 22 x-country ski
trails with over 240 km of groomed terrain for all
levels of skiers, from beginner to expert. Both skate
and classic ski trails are available, some lighted. The
terrain ranges from trails that traverse historic
sites to the deep woods of the Chippewa,
panoramic trails on Thunder Mountain
and wilderness trails with moose.
There’s abundant and charming

Try a candlelit ski under the stars, followed

campfire. A Great Minnesota Ski Pass is required
to ski all public-land x-country ski trails.
As a destination snowmobile recreation
area, you’ll ride over 900 miles of well-groomed, wellmapped trails offering easy access to lodging, dining
and entertainment along the wintry routes. Some of
Minnesota’s most famed snowmobile trails start in
Grand Rapids, including the Taconite Trail winding
through the Iron Range on its way to Ely. Or cruise
the woodlands of the Chippewa National Forest
and its varied terrain. With so many trails, you’ll find
snowmobiling uncrowded and more relaxed in Grand
Rapids. There are 13 snowmobile clubs in Grand Rapids
and Itasca County dedicated to keeping the trails in
