Alex’s Story (8–12)
Helping upper middle school
and high school students deal with
choices, questions, and concerns
about drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.
Winner of the 2015 Communities for Alcoholand Drug-Free Youth Community Partner Award.
In an effort to meet the needs of
New England high schools, TIGER,
in collaboration with CADY, Inc.
(Communities for Alcohol- and Drugfree Youth) and the Partnership
for Drug Free NH, has created
a unique performance featuring
professional actress Teghan Kelly
and Alex Berry, a NH teen in
recovery from heroin addiction, one
of our nation’s worst drug problems, affecting thousands of
youth and adults throughout the country. After Teghan ‘tells’
Alex’s story, the ‘real’ Alex joins her onstage for a Q+A, creating
one of the most powerful performance experiences, based on
a true story, that schools have ever encountered.

TIGER’s engaging and relevant pre-performance and postperformance activities and lessons, as well as our online

performances,
TIGER offers 30-minute
student workshops specific to
each performance, allowing students, teachers, and
school counselors to interact with actors to explore
topics further. Children let their inner “roar” out through
role-playing and “hot-seating” the actors they have just
seen perform in an engaging and enriching exchange.
In addition, after-school and evening workshops offer staterequired bullying training and professional development to
teachers and thought-provoking informational sessions
for parents.

TIGER has performed at the state level for
the New Hampshire Department of Education,
regionally for the New England Theatre Conference
(NETC), and nationally for the American Alliance
for Theatre and Education (AATE). Internationally,
TIGER has also performed for the National Drama
International Conference at Durham University
in Durham, England, the International Festival of
Children’s Theatre (ASSITEJ) in Cairo, Egypt, and
most recently, at the 2013 IDEA World Congress in
Paris, France.

Based on the anonymous writings and stories of
New Hampshire school children and youth, TIGER
performances incorporate live actors, theatre,
dance, and music to engage school audiences from
K–12 in a 45-minute assembly-length production.
Following in the tradition of PSU’s award-winning
ETC (Educational Theatre Collaborative),
TIGER offers the very best in theatre for all
ages. A TIGER performance seeks to transform
thoughts, feelings, and behavior to help both
children and young adults envision and understand
their own power in resolving difficult issues.
In addition to performances, TIGER also offers
professional development (taught by Plymouth State
University faculty) for teachers and parents tied
to the Common Core, as well as engaging student
workshops in individual classrooms following
performances. Back by popular demand, TIGER will
continue to offer online curriculum support to all
schools booking TIGER at no additional charge.
