safety proximity switch that offers
PLe and SIL3 claim levels in the
robust stainless steel package you
would expect from an amGard
product.
The Hall Effect sensors allow for large
misalignment between actuator and
sensor and the integrated electronics
ensure faults are reported and that
the two safety circuits switch at the
same time. This means the safety
relay never enters a fault state, no
matter what the approach direction.

RSS and CSS switches use advanced
circuit technology for functional
safety applications. Up to 31 devices
can be connected in series (daisy
chain) and still meet the highest
safety level to EN13849-1.
Each switch has a monitoring system,
so if a fault condition appears there is
no loss of safety. The switch can also
send a signal to a control system
either by separate inputs or via a
series connected diagnostic system.
The main benefit of these products is
they do not allow any single channel
faults to disrupt any operational cycle.
In a conventional series connected
system, a single channel fault could
result in an unnecessary component
change because they are not easy to
detect. Recycling of the safety circuit
can also make the problem disappear
until the next fault occurs.
Schmersal’s CSS technology prevents
these faults ever occurring.

Solenoid interlock monitoring
The safety outputs of the AZM300Z
solenoid interlock are enabled when
the safety guard is closed and the
solenoid interlock is locked.
Actuator monitoring
For applications, where process
protection is required, the AZM300B
version can be used. The safety
outputs of this model are enabled
when the safety guard is closed. With
this device locking is not required for
operation.
Features
One of the unique features of the
AZM300 is the innovative patented
operating principle with rotating
shaft and star handle.
This offers the advantage that the
safety guard is pulled into its end
position when the guard door is
closed and it is held shut.
The solenoid interlock can be used as
an end stop, which eliminates the use
of a separate door stop. The
integrated latching ensures that the
closed condition of the door is
maintained after the unlocking of the
solenoid interlock and that the door
cannot autonomously open itself. The
latching force can be easily increased
by turning the star handle by 180º
from 25N to 50N.

include a safety solenoid interlock
with bolt locking. This consists of a
locking unit with sensor technology

The tongue operated safety gate
switch has a heavy duty tongue and
head which allows for ±12mm
misalignment. The tongue and head
unit can rotate in 90° increments.
The product is ideally designed for
machines without run down cycles
where quick and frequent access to
equipment is required, via either
hinged or sliding doors.
When the machinery is in operation
the tongue is engaged and the power
is on. If access is required, the door is
simply opened releasing the tongue
from the unit, giving positively guided,
forced disconnection of the safety
switch contacts.

Trapped key interlocking is a tried
and tested method of mechanically
safeguarding dangerous machines
and hazardous processes, and is
suitable for use up to SIL3 (EN/IEC

Safeguarding without rundown time
By using a trapped key system, this mixer is safeguarded in a pre-determined sequence without the need
for wiring. mGard products are very robust and ideal for use in harsh conditions, such as heat, vibration, dust
and moisture.

First the isolation switch is operated into
a safe condition. Only in this “off”
position it is possible to shoot the bolt
of the BM1 bolt-lock to isolate the
switch and release the key.

This enclosed machine area is safeguarded with the use of a solenoid controlled trapped key interlock system.
The modular arrangement allows configurations of virtually any safeguarding application.
