music available to anyone with an Internet connection worldwide. BigUp Radio has grown
into 7 reggae internet radio stations. BigUp Radio supplies its loyal users with the latest

DANCEHALL
SKA
With its upbeat rhythym, Dancehall has been a club
favorite since the 70’s. Our “Slamming Dancehall
Reggae” station plays dancehall music from the early
days to the never before heard tracks. Dancehall is
our flagship and has a very large worldwide following.
Ska originated in Jamaica in the early 1960s from
blues, jazz and calypso. Marked by a fast tempo and
a strongly accented offbeat, Ska has gone through
many phases in the past decades growing from a
small audience in Jamaica to a worldwide popularity.
Today Ska and Punk go together hand in hand
with Rudeboys, Mods, and Skinheads as fans. Our
“Skankin Ska” station sticks to the roots of Ska and
plays mostly Jamaican artists from the 60s-80s.

Roots reggae is a spiritual music with a lyrical focus
on Jah, Rastafarian religion, poverty and oppression.
Roots reggae is an important part of Jamaican
culture. Our “Steady Rockin’ Roots Reggae” station
plays the entire history of roots reggae, blending
rocksteady, dub, ska, Nyabingi drums and version.
Roots artists include: Bob Marley, Dennis Brown,
Burning Spear, Black Uhuru, Jimmy Cliff, Midnite
DUB
Dub, also known as “version,” evolved from ska and
roots reggae in the 70’s. The dub sound includes
the underlying rhythm with special reverb effects
including clips of vocals at times. Dub takes many
forms today like drum & bass and jungle. Our
“Massive Dub” station plays continuous dub and is
perfect for relaxation and just cooling out.

LOVERS ROCK
Lovers Rock reggae came from South London,
England in the 1970’s. A lovers style of reggae
music, Lovers Rock appeals to women and to any in
relationships. Our station plays a blend of oldies and
some of today’s conscious lovers tunes.
Lovers Rock artists include: Eddie Lovette, Gregory
Isaacs, Pluto Shervington, Dobby Dobson
Ska artists include: Laurel Aitken, Jackie Mittoo,
Ethiopians, Tommy McCook, early Bob Marley
SOCA
Soca music is a wonderful island sound originating in
the West Indies. Soca music is a mixture of soul and
calypso. Soca is very similar to dancehall reggae and
there have been a lot of crossover songs released
in recent years. Our “Sweet Soca” station plays nonstop dance-till-you-drop soca music.

REGGAETON
Reggaeton is a new style of music that started in
the late 1990s in Puerto Rico and spread quickly
throughout North America, Europe and the entire
Latin community worldwide. Reggaeton is the fastest
growing genre of music today. Our “Toma Reggaeton”
plays the latest and greatest reggaeton 24 hours a
day.
