PROJECT SAVE
• Project SAVE is a collaborative project of the
Sacramento County Office of Education,
Sacramento County Sheriff, Sacramento
County Probation, and Sacramento Police
Department. The project is an effort to help
young people break the cycle of violence and
lead healthy, productive lives.
• Project SAVE is a non-punitive early
intervention program for adolescent first-time
offenders, age 10 to 17, who have been
involved in violence or weapon possession.
Project SAVE is designed to offer alternatives
to offenders who act without thinking or in
response to peer pressure and are not yet
intimately involved in the juvenile justice
system. Parent participation is required.
• Since 1998, Project SAVE has served more
than 2,000 young people in Sacramento
County. Participants include students and
their parents/guardians.
• Follow-up data indicate 90% of students who
complete the Project SAVE class never return
to the juvenile justice system on a new citation.
• Students without an intervention like Project
SAVE have a much lower success rate.
According to a national report, only 54% of
male and 74% of female juvenile offenders will
remain violence-free without any intervention.
• Youth are referred to Project SAVE by
schools, law enforcement, the courts and
others.
