SHREWSBURY HIGH, SENIOR, FIRST BASE
Lever led the Midland A with a .520 batting average and collected
his 100th career hit for Leominster, which reached the Central
Mass. Division 1 semifinals. He was also a T&G All-Star last year
when he hit .370 and the Blue Devils became the first
Central Mass. team to win a Division 1 state baseball title since Algonquin did in 2006. The 5-foot-10,
160-pound senior served as captain of the baseball
team the past two years and he started at shortstop
since his freshman year. Lever had three hits in a
season-ending loss to Shrewsbury in the Central Mass.
semifinals. He was named an all-star of the fall Showcase League
the past three years and most valuable player last fall. He plans
to play baseball and study kinesiology at UMass-Amherst. He is
the son of Lee and Mark Lever of Leominster.
Pumphret hit .429 with four home runs to help Shrewsbury High reach the Central Mass. Division 1
championship game. Pumphret’s grand slam helped Shrewsbury overcome a 5-0 deficit to beat defending Division 1 state champion Leominster High, 10-8, in the Central Mass. semifinals. It was
the only grand slam hit by a Shrewsbury High player this season and Pumphret's first grand
slam since Little League. He also hit a three-run homer to highlight a five-run rally in the top
of the seventh inning in a 7-3 victory over crosstown rival St. John’s, then ranked No. 1 in the
Hometeam media poll. Pumphret was voted a Midland A League All-Star while playing for
coach Lee Diamantopoulos. He plans to attend Lesley University. He is the son of Deb and Rob
Pumphret of Shrewsbury.
Noah Milliard

The 6-foot, 185-pound senior hit .370 with one home run and
18 RBIs, and had a 2-1 record with 37 strikeouts for Nashoba
Regional. Milliard helped the Chieftains win the Midland B League
with a 9-1 record and finish 14-7 overall. Defeating
Midland A League champion Wachusett Regional,
9-5, in late May was his most memorable moment for
the team. In that game, Milliard went 3 for 4 with two
doubles and five RBIs. Hitting a walk-off, two-out, tworun homer to beat Hudson, 4-2, was another highlight.
Milliard served as his team’s captain. He plans to

of Karen and James Quinlivan of Shrewsbury.

AUBURN HIGH, JUNIOR, PITCHER-SHORTSTOP
During the regular season, Scully hit .375 and had a 4-2 record with a 0.76 ERA, but he did some of his

12th Central Mass. championship for Auburn and the first since the Rockets beat Northbridge
in 2013 for the Division 2 title. Beating Grafton, 5-4, in 12 innings early in the season was
another highlight. Scully pitched three scoreless innings of relief and doubled in the winning

Only four times all season did a team score 10 or more goals off the Tomahawks, who had a defense
primed for action under coach Rich Luongo. Bleck and shutdown were synonymous throughout the
season, as Algonquin worked its way to the Central/West Division 2 final. Bleck, who also wrestled
on the varsity level for two seasons, played three seasons of lacrosse and was an All-MidWach A defender the past two seasons. As captain, he helped the Tomahawks keep each
of their first 11 opponents to under double-figure scoring. During one eight-game stretch,
Bleck and the Algonquin defenders held opponents to six of fewer goals. Bleck will attend
Clark University to study biology. He is the son of Michelle and Stuart Bleck of Southboro.
SHREWSBURY HIGH, SENIOR, ATTACK
Scoring seemed to be a year-round avocation for Buduo, who picked
up where he left off from the Colonials' ice hockey season. After
making the T&G Super Team last winter, he racked up 101 points
during the lacrosse campaign, earning his second lacrosse
Super Team berth, a share of the Mid-Wach A MVP and
All-America honors. Buduo had two goals and two assist
in an 8-3 win over St. John's in April, a most memorable
moment for the senior. He passed 200 points for his
career, which featured a district title as a junior, a season
after his Colonials hockey team captured a Division 3 state championship. Buduo will play lacrosse at Lenoir-Rhyne University in North
Carolina. He is the son of Mary and Joe Buduo of Shrewsbury.
James Bowler
John DeFlumeri
ST. JOHN'S HIGH, SENIOR, DEFENSE
Seventeen times opponents couldn't come up with 10 goals, and the Pioneers even pulled off a
couple of shutouts. DeFlumeri's defensive prowess shone through all season, which ended only
a goal shy of Central/West Division 2 champion Longmeadow in the semifinals. In one four-game
stretch, St. John's allowed only six goals — and a 10-0 verdict over eventual Central/West
Division 3 champion Grafton. DeFlumeri, a senior captain, was presented the St. John's
Pioneer Award for lacrosse. His father played lacrosse at WPI, brother Stephen was a star
attackman at St. John's, and sister Olivia was a three-year lacrosse starter at Shrewsbury
High. DeFlumeri will enroll at UMass-Amherst and would like to become a software engineer. He is the son of Lauren and Brian DeFlumeri of Shrewsbury.
SOFTBALL
WORCESTER, SENIOR, ATTACK
Bowler has been the cornerstone of the Worcester public high
school lacrosse program's recent success. The Warriors battled for a
Mid-Mass. League title throughout the season and scored
a landmark victory in the first round of the district tournament. Bowler finished his senior season with 63 goals and
41 assists for 104 points and graduated Doherty High as
the program's top all-time leading scorer with 252 points.
Worcester's 13-11 win over Marlboro in the Central/West
Division 2 quarterfinals was especially sweet for Bowler. He had two
goals and four assists at Foley Stadium, passing the 250-point milestone in the process. Bowler, a varsity golfer in the fall, is heading to
UMass-Amherst, where he will major in biology. He is the son of Julie
and John Bowler of Spencer.

while walking just 21 and led Auburn to the semifinals of the Central Mass. Division 2
tourney. Handfield was also a force at the plate. She batted .458 with four home runs and 27
RBIs. She pitched a perfect game and hit a home run in a win over Westboro, which was one
of her most memorable moments of the year. Her shutout win against Narragansett in the
Central Mass. quarterfinals was another highlight. Handfield earned SWCL all-star honors.
She is the daughter of Andrea and Casey Handfield of Auburn.
Madison Parmeter
ASSABET VALLEY REGIONAL, SENIOR, PITCHER-SECOND BASE
Parmeter set a school single-season record for home runs (three) and RBIs (42) while leading the
Aztecs to their fourth straight Central Mass. Division 3 final. Parmeter batted .591 and earned her third
straight Super Team selection. Beating Valley Tech in the Central Mass. semifinals after losing to the
Beavers three times during the regular season was one of Parmeter’s most memorable
moments of the year. Parmeter was a four-time CAL all-star and won the MIAA Athletic
Award for Leadership. This season she started a fundraiser, called “Bringing Prostate
Cancer Awareness Home,” in memory of her dad, David. She donated $1 every time an
Assabet runner scored. In the fall, Parmeter will attend Westfield State and study athletic
training. She is the daughter of Maureen Parmeter of Maynard.
Bri Tortora
ST. PETER-MARIAN HIGH, SENIOR, CATCHER
Tortora and classmate Erin Gallo formed the best battery in the area, and Tortora’s efforts behind the
plate and at it helped the Guardians capture the Division 1 state championship for the first time in 30
years. St. Peter-Marian finished its perfect season 25-0. Tortora batted .364 and drove in 18
runs. She had 2 home runs, 4 triples, 2 doubles and 8 stolen bases. Hitting two home runs
against rival Holy Name was one of her highlights of the season. Tortora was a three-time
Central Mass. Conference all-star and she served as a three-sport captain (softball, basketball, field hockey). In the fall, Tortora will attend Westfield State University where she will
study elementary education. She is the daughter of Ed and Tammy Tortora of Worcester.
DOHERTY HIGH, SOPHOMORE, PITCHER

the Central Mass Division 1 Tournament. Doherty fell to Nashoba
Regional in the quarterfinals. Sylvester posted a 1.61 ERA and
struck out 138 batters in 113 innings. She issued just
13 walks. Sylvester batted .348 to help the Highlanders go unbeaten (6-0) in the Inter-High. She was named
Inter-High Most Valuable Player. Doherty’s 3-2 win over
Algonquin was among her most memorable moments of
the season. Sylvester’s sister, Delaney, was a Super Team
selection in softball last year and had a strong first season at Suffolk
University. Sylvester is a two-time Inter-High volleyball all-star. She
would like to pursue a career as a physical therapist. She is the
daughter of Tami and Craig Sylvester of Worcester.

BOYS LACROSSE
Casey Elkins
MORE ON PAGE 22
NASHOBA REGIONAL, SENIOR, MIDFIELD
Although the Chieftains finished 8-11, Elkins enjoyed an impressive season as captain and league all-star with 35 goals and 20
assist for 55 points. The highlight of the season was Nashoba's
13-9 victory over Algonquin, a Central/West Division
2 finalist. Elkins had three goals and an assist in that
game for the Chieftains, who beat the Tomahawks for
the first time in school history. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound
Elkins scored a pair of overtime winners in April — his
tally in the second overtime edged Groton-Dunstable,
9-8, and another OT goal topped Wachusett, 8-7. He was the
sure-footed placekicker for the Chieftains' football team. Elkins
will attend Plymouth State University in the fall. He is the son of
Carolyn and David Elkins of Stow.
Jake Foster
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Mike Martens
ALGONQUIN REGIONAL, JUNIOR, FACEOFF/MIDFIELD
What was most memorable about the season for Martens as an individual? "Having a better postseason
than I expected," said the junior, whose tournament performance helped earn him distinction as Hometeam
Player of the Year. The Tomahawks put away three tourney opponents before falling to Longmeadow in the
Central/West Division 2 championship game. During that run, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Martens had
13 goals and seven assists while winning 80 percent of his faceoffs. In Algonquin's 16-10 victory
over Tantasqua in the district quarterfinals, Martens had five goals and five assists and won all 25
of his faceoffs. He scored five more in the semifinals against Westfield, along with three assists.
Martens enjoyed the march to the district final — and the sweet pair of 5-4 overtime victories
over Shrewsbury. Martens was a Mid-Wach A co-MVP and a US Lacrosse All-American. His father
played basketball at Alfred University in western New York. Martens would like to work in the medical profession someday, and he'll be attending the University of Albany. He is the son of Carol and Jim Martens of
Northboro.
Timothy Hally
SHREWSBURY HIGH, SENIOR, DEFENSE
Hally enjoyed quite a thrill this season when he scored his first goal of his career. But the 6-foot-5, 215pound defender has given the Colonials plenty to be happy about, including a league all-star performance
while helping Shrewsbury capture a Central/West Division 2 title in 2014, after outlasting Westfield, 9-8,
in double overtime. This year, the Colonials were eliminated in the quarterfinals by St. John's,
but they finished "16-6 against a very tough schedule of teams," Hally said. A captain this past
season for coach Nate Skermont, Hally was also a Mid-Wach A all-star this season, after completing his fourth season with the Shrewsbury basketball program. Hally plans to play lacrosse
next season at Assumption College. He is the son of Kim and Jack Hally of Shrewsbury.
WESTBORO HIGH, SENIOR, MIDFIELD/ATTACK
Foster recorded a 50-goal season while leading the Rangers to
a tournament berth. He started the season with four goals and
three assists in a 17-3 win over Leominster, then tallied
four more in a 7-6 victory over Wachusett, including
the winner two minutes into overtime. There are other
memorable moments for Foster later in the season,
including a late April rally against Shrewsbury that fell
one goal short. He scored another OT winner in May,
as part of a four-goal game against Grafton after splitting two
defenders, and there were two wins over Nashoba, with Foster
scoring five in the second meeting. Foster, who also enjoys golf,
is heading to the University of Hartford. He is the son of Nancy
and Scott Foster of Westboro.
Curtiss Vachon
ST. BERNARD'S HIGH, JUNIOR, ATTACK
Vachon not only led Central Massachusetts in scoring, but he
boosted the Bernardians to the Central/West Division 2 quarterfinals. He finished 2015 with 105 goals and 42 assists for 147
points, a school single-season record, and has 303
career points entering his senior year. He scored his
100th goal of the season in the Bernardians' first-round
victory over Wahconah, on a day he had seven goals
and one assist. He had four goals and two assists in the
team's quarterfinal loss to Mount Greylock. The 6-foot4, 220-pound Vachon also is a top-notch golfer for St. Bernard's
and plays for the basketball team. His father was a track athlete
at Oakmont Regional and mother starred in track at Fitchburg
State. He is the son of Carlotta and Randy Vachon of Westminster.
HONORABLE MENTION
Chase Kapuscienski
GRAFTON HIGH, JUNIOR, ATTACK
Twenty of Kapuscienski's 95 points this season came in the postseason, when the Indians marched to the
Central/West Division 2 championship. The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder passed the 200-point milestone near
the end of the regular season and enters his senior year with 235. A three-time Mid-Mass. League all-star,
Kapuscienski was named the league's Co-Player of the Year and was second in the MMLL in
scoring. He got the Indians to a tremendous start in the playoffs, collecting three goals and three
assists in a quarterfinal win over Northbridge, then bursting for six goals and three assists in the
semifinals against Lee. Kapuscienski will attend the University of Mary Washington in Virginia,
and hopes to be a biologist someday. He is the son of Gene Kapuscienski of South Grafton.
Jared Ward
ST. JOHN'S HIGH, SENIOR, ATTACK
Ward's scoring proficiency keyed the Pioneers' drive to the Central/Western Division 2 semifinals,
where they lost, 8-7, to eventual champion Longmeadow. He finished with 65 goals and 49 assists for
114 points, collecting 14 points in the postseason. Ward collected 25 points over the last four games,
including five goals and six assists in a 16-4 road victory over South Hadley in the regularseason finale. In each of St. John's tournament wins, over Agawam and Shrewsbury, he had
three goals and two assists. His second cousin is no stranger to playoff success — former
Boston College hockey star Brian Boyle plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ward is headed to
Western New England University. He is the son of Debra and John Ward of Littleton.

Julia Insani
ALGONQUIN REGIONAL, SENIOR, MIDFIELD
Insani's senior season ended with a loss to Minnechaug in the
Central/West Division 1 semifinals, but only after collecting 35
goals and 14 assists while boosting Algonquin to a share of the MidWach A championship and earning Academic All-America
honors. Her four goals against Agawam keyed a 19-7
victory in the district quarterfinals, and she added three
in the 11-8 loss to Minnechaug. For the past three years,
Insani played varsity soccer, basketball and lacrosse,
earning T&G Super Team honors in soccer last fall. A
three-sport captain as a senior, she received the Midland-Wachusett Interscholastic League Academic Award in basketball. Insani
will attend Holy Cross, studying on the pre-health profession track.
She is the daughter of Mary and Raymond Insani of Northboro.
Nanette Moulin
WORCESTER, SENIOR, MIDFIELD
Moulin, a recent graduate of Doherty High, was a captain of the first
Worcester squad to qualify for postseason play. She had 61 goals
and 22 assists for 83 points under coach James Arthur as the Warriors went 10-9, 6-6 in Mid-Mass. League play. For the past
two years, Moulin was a captain and two-time league allstar. She poured in six goals in Worcester's 21-7 victory
at Northbridge at the end of April. Her 100th career goal
came against Tantasqua in May. Moulin also played two
varsity seasons of soccer and earned a letter in indoor
track her junior year. She is headed to UMass-Amherst and wants to
pursue a career in teaching. She is the daughter of Kellie and William Moulin of Worcester.
Elizabeth Navin
WESTBORO HIGH, JUNIOR, ATTACK
Bracey played a key role in boosting the Rangers' drive to the Central/West Division 1 semifinals,
where they lost to eventual state champion Longmeadow. She was one of three Westboro players to
score more than 40 goals, finishing with 50 and 16 assists. Bracey cherished the Rangers'
season-opening win over Algonquin and knocking off eventual Division 2 state finalist Groton-Dunstable en route to capturing a share of the Mid-Wach A title. She notes that the 10-7
win over the Tomahawks in the opener, in which she scored three goals, set the tone for the
season. This fall, Bracey will be entering her fourth varsity field hockey season. Her father
played rugby in New Zealand. She is the daughter of Cathleen and Rich Bracey of Westboro.
Gianna DiPinto
GRAFTON HIGH, JUNIOR, CENTER/MIDFIELD
Midway through the season, DiPinto scored her 100th career goal, and her teammates presented her
with the game ball as a memento. Many more of those may be coming her way next season after her
productive junior season. DiPinto had 55 goals and 27 assists this year while sparking the
Indians to the Central/West Division 2 final. She earned Mid-Mass. League all-star honors,
and was named to the US Lacrosse All-Academic team. Her career totals read 126 goals, 51
assists, 177 points, so milestones are ahead. DiPinto played varsity basketball her first two
years at Grafton, but now just plays lacrosse and field hockey for the Indians, and will be a
captain for both as a senior. She is the daughter of Kathleen and Len DiPinto of Grafton.
Kendyl Finelli
ALGONQUIN REGIONAL, SENIOR, MIDFIELD
Finelli's play considerably aided the Tomahawks' run to a share of the Mid-Wach A championship, then
to the Central/West Division 1 semifinals. She collected 36 goals and 40 assists in the regular season as
Algonquin went 14-5-1, 9-1 in the league. Finelli scored twice to lift Algonquin past Agawam in
the district quarterfinals. Finelli, who is headed to UMass-Lowell in the fall, has had a memorable
high school athletic career, including all-star performances in cross-country and basketball. One
shining memory came from her freshman year, when she scored in a state semifinal victory over
Longmeadow. As a senior, Finelli was an MIAA Student Ambassador and received the Athletic
Director's District E award. She is the daughter of Karen and Tom Finelli of Southboro.
Jackie Healy
ALGONQUIN REGIONAL, SENIOR, ATTACK
Healy says she cherished playing nine years with her father as coach, and there was quite a run
during that time. There were four straight league titles, and this year's 14-5-1 squad advanced to the
Central/West Division 1 semifinals. Healy went over 50 goals and 100 points this season as
team captain, and finished with 132 goals and 126 assists career. After two seasons of field
hockey, Healy switched to cross-country for the falls of her junior and senior years. She
was manager of the girls' basketball team the past two years. Her sister Peggy also starred
at Algonquin, graduating in 2011. Healy is heading to Endicott College and will study nursing. She is the daughter of Susan and John Healy of Northboro.
GRAFTON HIGH, SENIOR, ATTACK/MIDFIELD
Navin couldn't ask for much more in her senior season, except
maybe for a win in the Central/West Division 2 final. She surpassed
100 points for the second straight season, and her Indians beat
Shrewsbury twice for the first time in her career, a truly
memorable accomplishment for Navin. She had 66 goals
and 42 assists this season, following 75 goals and 28
assists her junior year. For her career, she finished with
252 goals and 120 assists for 372 points. She was captain,
team MVP and T&G Super Teamer in each of her last two seasons
at Grafton, and she was a four-time first-team league all-star. Navin
plans to play lacrosse at Central Michigan University. She is the
daughter of Amy and Christopher Navin of Grafton.
Bella Rino
ALGONQUIN REGIONAL, SENIOR, GOALIE
0000213476-01
Rino came through in the clutch this season for the Tomahawks,
who this spring advanced to the Central/West Division 1 semifinals.
She broke four single-season school records while anchoring Algonquin's 14-5-1 season: saves (259), goals against average
(6.9), save percentage (.600) and fewest goals allowed
(151). Twice she make key saves in the final 10 seconds of
games, one preserving a 9-8 win over eventual Division 2
district champ Groton-Dunstable and the other for an 8-8
tie with Bromfield, stopping Hometeam Player of the Year Sophia
Turchetta. After playing two years of ice hockey, she managed the
team last winter. Rino will attend Endicott College and hopes to
become a physician assistant. She is the daughter of Joanne and
Anthony Rino of Northboro.

baking, painting and drawing, will attend Rensselaer Polytechnic

the daughter of Karen and Paul James of Paxton.

inches to claim the crown one year after finishing fourth. Leonard also placed second at both the Central
Mass. Class A and Midland League A championships, establishing a personal best of 122-5 at

disappointed after failing to record an opening height in the pole vault. There would be none of that
in her return to the regional competition. Moberg was the lone competitor to clear 9 feet, 6 inches
as she added to her first-place finishes in the Central Mass. Class B and Midland League
A championships. She completed a successful season, one that included jumping a

Super Team in soccer. She ended her scholastic career by being
similarly honored in track and field. Ricciardi’s many accomplishments including winning the 400-meter hurdles at the

second straight year, in the process lowering her meet

disappointed as she returned to the podium for the second straight

her career goal of becoming an athletic trainer. She is the daughter
of Wendy and Steve Ricciardi of Holden.

A and Central/Western Mass. Division 1 championships.
Seeded 28th at the state meet, Thebado went on to
place 12th in a terrific time of 16.09 seconds, not far off

is the daughter of Shelia and Chris Thebado of Northboro.

BOYS TRACK
Drew Jean-Guillaume
SHEPHERD HILL REGIONAL, SENIOR, 100
The versatile Jean-Guillaume focused on the 100-meter dash this
season. The results were impressive. Jean-Guillaume blazed his way
to first place at the Central Mass. Class A Championships in 10.97
seconds, a time that was a personal best and ranked
among the best in the state this spring. He then placed
second at both the Central/Western Division 1 Championships and state meet before finishing 16th at the New
England Championships. It marked his fourth straight
appearance at the state meet, having previously made it
twice in the long jump and once on a relay. Jean-Guillaume, a T&G
Super Team selection in football after quarterbacking the Rams to a
10-2 record in the fall, will attend Central Connecticut State University. He is the son of Sue and Rock Jean-Guillaume of Charlton.
Grant Hauver
NIPMUC REGIONAL, JUNIOR, HIGH JUMP
An injury cut short Hack’s track and field season as a sophomore. He was clearly in great health this
spring. Hack finished first in four championships: the Central Mass. Class B, Central/Western Mass.
Division 2, Dual Valley Conference, and state meet. He cleared 6 feet, 6 inches to win three of those
titles, a mark that is a personal-best effort outdoors for this two-time indoor state champion. Hack then took second at the New England Championships, matching his indoor
performance at the six-state competition in February. Among this three-time T&G Super
Team selection’s many memorable moments was placing seventh individually and helping
Nipmuc win the team title in the CMass decathlon. He is the son of Catherine and Christopher Hack of Uxbridge.
Wyatt Boelens
NASHOBA REGIONAL, JUNIOR, DISCUS
Boelens had a breakout season as a sophomore while earning his first T&G Super Team selection. He
spent this spring successfully staking his claim as the best discus thrower in the state. The 6-foot-3,
220-pound junior repeated as the Central/Western Mass. Division 1 champion, besting the field by 17
feet with a meet-record 152 feet, 4 inches. Boelens then upped his school record to 159-1
while winning the state meet. He considers that to be his most memorable individual
moment of the season. Boelens went on to place fifth overall and first among Massachusetts competitors in his debut at the New England Championships. A shot putter during
the indoor season, Boelens enjoys playing basketball and lifting weights. He is the son of
Brenda Boelens of Bolton.
WACHUSETT REGIONAL, JUNIOR, MILE
As the meets grew in prominence, Hauver repeatedly and rapidly reduced his times in the mile. He finished first at the Midland
League A Championships in 4 minutes, 32.30 seconds, placed second
at the Central/West Division 1 meet in 4:23.38 and took
third at the state meet in 4:20.31. That time was a personal best and the third fastest in the state this season.
He then came in 10th at the New England Championships, where he was the first Massachusetts competitor
to cross the finish line. Hauver also established a personal best in the 2 mile, clocking a 9:44.27 while winning the Central
Mass. Class A Championships. This is the third T&G Super Team
selection for Hauver, who is an Eagle Scout. He is the son of Shanna
and Scott Hauver of Holden.
Jamison Koeman
WHITINSVILLE CHRISTIAN, SENIOR, 2 MILE
Whitinsville Christian has turned out some terrific distance runners
over the years with Koeman being the latest and one of the greatest. He won the 2 mile at the Central Mass. Class C Championships
in 9 minutes, 41.38 seconds, which was the fastest time of
the day among the three classes, was second at the Central/Western Mass. Division 2 Championships in 9:37.56
and fourth at the state meet in a personal-best effort of
9:32.85. That time ranked sixth in the state this season.
Koeman won the mile at the Dual Valley Conference Championships
in 4:26.78, which was also a personal best. Koeman, an eight-time
T&G Super Team selection, will study biology, public health and
pre-med at Calvin College. He is the son of Jodi and Kent Koeman of
Whitinsville.
Max Michaud
ALGONQUIN REGIONAL, JUNIOR, 800
Another record-setting season produced the first T&G Super Team
selection for Michaud. He displayed his versatility by finishing first
in the 800-meter run, third in the high jump and fifth in the mile at
the Midland League A Championships. And he demonstrated his superiority in the 800 by winning the Central
Mass. Class A Championships, placing second at the
Central/Western Mass. Division 1 Championships and finishing 10th at the state meet. His best time of 1 minute,
56.91 seconds broke the school record — the fifth he’s
been a part of — by 3 seconds and is his most memorable moment
of the season. Michaud is an all-state soccer player who helped the
Tomahawks win the CMass Division 1 title last fall. He is the son of
Jacqueline and Jonathan Michaud of Northboro.
ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Rodney Agyare-May
BURNCOAT HIGH, SOPHOMORE, 400
Agyare-May continually demands a lot of himself. He repeatedly delivers, both in terms of his
performance on the track and his leadership around it as a sophomore captain. And for that, he
has been named Hometeam Athlete of the Year. Agyare-May ran the 400-meter dash in six major
meets this spring. He recorded five victories, breaking 49 seconds in three of them.
He set meet records while comfortably winning the Central Mass. Class A and Central/Western Mass. Division 1 championships and showed plenty of resolve down the
stretch to claim the state title by two-hundredths of a second. Agyare-May’s winning
time of 48.35 seconds was a school record, the fastest in the state this spring and
provided him with his most memorable individual moment of the season. He was also
especially proud of the Patriots winning the Inter-High title. Finally, the 15-year-old speedster
showcased his talent to a larger audience, winning the New England Championships and placing sixth in the emerging elite division at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. He is the son of

Nick Steele
BOYS TRACK
Kyle Monahan
NORTH MIDDLESEX REGIONAL, SENIOR, HIGH JUMP
Improving by leaps and bounds? That would be Monahan. He entered the season with a career-best effort
of 6 feet in the high jump and exited it having cleared 6-6 multiple times, a height topped by only two
athletes in the state this spring. One of those times was at the Central/Western Mass. Division 1 Championships, where Monahan finished first and topped the meet record by 2 inches.
He considers that to be his most memorable moment of the season. Monahan also won the
Central Mass. Class A and Midland League B championships. He placed third at both the state
meet and the New England Championships before taking second in the emerging elite division
at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. He is the son of Kelly and Kevin Monahan of Pepperell.
BROMFIELD SCHOOL, JUNIOR, MILE/2 MILE
It was another step up the podium for Steele, this time to the
top. After finishing fourth in the mile at the Central/Western
Mass. Division 2 Championships as a freshman and third as a
junior, he placed first this spring with a comfortable,
7-second margin of victory. Steele then impressively
came back to win the 2 mile. His times of 4 minutes,
21.98 seconds and 9:35.80 were both personal bests
and ranked seventh in the state this season. Steele
went on to finish seventh in the mile at the state meet and sixth
in the 2,000-meter steeplechase at the New Balance Outdoor
Nationals, a spot that earned him All-American honors. Steele
was a T&G Super Team selection in cross-country last fall. He is
the son of Marisa and Robert Steele of Harvard.
Nolan Ryan
Greg Moschella
ST. JOHN’S HIGH, JUNIOR, 400
Finishing the 400-meter run in under 50 seconds was more of a psychological barrier than a physical one
for Moschella. He couldn’t have picked a better time for his long-awaited breakthrough. Moschella’s spin
around the track at the Central/Western Mass. Division 1 Championships lasted 49.62 seconds, landing him in second place and lifting the Pioneers to the team title. It all added up to the most
memorable moment of the season for Moschella, who went on to place seventh (49.70) at the
state meet and 11th (49.87) at the New England Championships. In addition to the 400, he also
established personal bests in the 200 and 800. Moschella plays soccer for St. John’s and enjoys
fishing, biking and skiing. He is the son of Nancy and Mark Moschella of Westboro.

21 feet, 10¾ inches. Robakiewicz won the triple jump at the Central/Western meet, finished

son of Betania Toro of Fitchburg.

the task. He finished first in both the 110 and 400 hurdles at the Central Mass. Class A Championships,
first in the 110 hurdles and second in the 400 hurdles at the Central/Western Mass. Division
1 meet and third in the 400 hurdles at the state meet, his time of 56.34 seconds ranking fifth
in the state this spring. Melia then placed fifth in the 300 hurdles at the New England Championships and 23rd in the 400 hurdles in the emerging elite division at the New Balance

ROTC program. He is the son of Jonna Melia of Shrewsbury and Glenn Melia of Webster.
ST. JOHN’S HIGH, SENIOR, POLE VAULT
Ryan displayed exceptional promise as a freshman when he cleared
11 feet in the pole vault. It was potential he would go on to fulfill. Ryan finished seventh at the Central/Western Mass. Division
1 Championships as a sophomore and sixth as a junior
before winning the coveted crown by topping 13 feet
this season. He considers that effort, which helped the
Pioneers capture the team title, to be among his most
memorable moments of the season. Ryan matched his
personal-best jump when he cleared 13-3 to place fifth at the state
meet, reaching the podium for a second straight year. Ryan will
attend Bryant University and aspires to become an investment
banker on Wall Street. He is the son of Maryan and Chris Ryan of
Holden.
Stephen E. Tencati Jr.
CLINTON HIGH, SENIOR, JAVELIN
From an individual and team perspective, things couldn’t have gone
any better for Tencati during his senior season. The Clinton captain
won the javelin at the Central Mass. Class C Championships as the
Gaels, 17 strong, claimed their first title since 1974. Tencati then won his signature event at the Central/Western
Mass. Division 2 Championships before placing third at
the state meet and 17th in his debut at the New England
Championships. His top throw of 181 feet, 4 inches broke
a school record that had stood since 1974 and ranked third in the
state this season. Tencati, who will study mechanical engineering
at UMass-Dartmouth, also played soccer for the Gaels, competed
in FIRST Robotics and is an Eagle Scout. He is the son of Jackie and
Steve Tencati of Clinton.

Julia Hoggins
BROMFIELD SCHOOL, SENIOR, GOALIE
While the Trojans have basked in the reputation as a prolific scoring program, Hoggins has remained
steady in goal to secure the victories. As a junior, she earned All-Mid-Wach honors while
anchoring Bromfield's drive to the Division 2 state final. This year as a captain, Hoggins backed
the Trojans' march to the Central/West semifinals, allowing only seven goals over Bromfield's
two tourney victories. In 19 games this season, she allowed only 7.3 goals per game and had
167 saves, turning aside 56 percent of shots on goal. Her favorite moment of the season came
on Senior Day against Westboro, when the Trojans prevailed, 11-10, in double overtime. She'll attend
Westfield State University in the fall. She is the daughter of Theresa and Ken Hoggins of Harvard.
