The Lakes on Eldridge Bible Study group will begin a new study
on February 9, 2016. “Discovering God’s Will For Your Life” covers
those questions “What is God’s will anyway? I really want to do it,
but what is it?”, to name a couple. It will describe how to find God’s
will in the Bible and how to apply scripture to your life. It also will
encourage you not to give up on quest, but to find contentment in
your new knowledge.
This twelve week study will begin on Tuesday, February 9th at 9:30
AM at the Lakes on Eldridge Beach Club. If you would like to join
us for fellowship and coffee please arrive at 9:15 AM. There will be
singing, praying and bible study. Guidebooks will be provided at the
meeting for a cost of $8. If you would like to pre-register, please
email Stephanie at [email protected].

CONSIDERING IMPROVING
QUALITY OF LIFE WITH ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are safe,
effective and drug-free options for the treatment of most nonemergency medical conditions. Whether you’re new to acupuncture
or have years of experience, acupuncture can help your general
health.
WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture is a form of treatment involving the use of very fine
filiform needles that are inserted into certain specific points of the
body. This stimulates the body to increase circulation and activate
the body’s own natural healing process. Acupuncture can be used
to treat a wide range of conditions and illnesses and is a wonderful
option when western medication does not work or is not tolerated.

Acupuncturists often use additional techniques, such as tui-na,
cupping and moxibustion, in conjunction with acupuncture. Tui-na
is a form of Chinese manipulative therapy, consisting of massage,
acupressure and other forms of body manipulation. It works by
applying pressure to acupoints, meridians and muscles or nerves to
remove blockages that prevent free flow of Qi (energy) through the
body. Cupping involves the use of glass globes placed on the body
to create a suction effect. The vacuum effect that draws up the skin
is believed to open up the skin’s pores to stimulate the blood flow to
the muscles, balance and realign the flow of Qi. Cupping may result
in small, circular bruises in the area where the cups were applied, but
these bruises are usually painless and disappear within a few days
after the treatment. Finally, moxibustion is a traditional therapy that

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BE TREATED?
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is most
commonly used to treat pain caused by various illnesses such as
arthritis, bursitis, fibromyalgia and PMS. It can be very effective
for treating migraine, back pain, neck pain, frozen shoulder and
sciatica. Acupuncture can also achieve good results when treating
stress related problems such as insomnia, anxiety and depression.
It is an effective way to treat substance abuse, reduce substance
dependencies (e.g. pain killers) or help you to quit smoking or reduce
weight. Acupuncture may also be used as an adjunct to physical
rehabilitation or surgical intervention to hasten functional recovery.
Talk to your licensed Acupuncturist about what acupuncture and TCM
can do for you. Submitted by LOE resident: Yunguang Yang (Lily)
…or if you know friends and family who are, please consider and
suggest rescuing vs. buying a dog from a breeder. We have every
breed of purebred dog available in our Texas pounds and shelters,
in great quantities.
This is because of the complete lack of any regulations or limit on
breeding in Texas.
• Approximately 30-40% of euthanasias in pounds involve purebred
animals.
• Mixed breeds in Texas stand almost no chance of making it out
of the pounds alive. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these
dogs; they just had the misfortune of being owned by people who
did not provide for their needs and care and obviously had no real
commitment to their pet.
• Countless numbers of people turn their own dogs in to high-kill
shelters, dump them rurally in the middle of nowhere or let them
roam and stray. It reflects a mentality that most dog lovers do not
understand.
• When you or someone you know considers adopting a dog, please
check out one of our five local animal shelters:

animal control or city pound

Chinese herbal medicine refers to the use of a plant’s seeds, berries,
roots, leaves, bark or flowers for medicinal purposes. Traditionally,
this involves formulating a mixture of various herbs to create a
formula based on a patient’s specific needs. These herbs can be
taken in the form of herbal tea after boiling the herbs in hot water to
extract the active ingredients. Although herbal medicine is still widely
used and available, formulations in the form of tablets or capsules
are more convenient and have become more popular these days.

“acupuncture-moxibustion.”

TREES AND SHRUBS • Finish all transplanting, get everything
in the ground for a good spring spurt of growth. Transplant balled
and burlap, container-grown, bare-root deciduous evergreen trees,
shrubs, roses and vines while still dormant. • Finish pruning roses.
Weed and cultivate lightly all beds. Replenish mulch as needed. •
Control early spring insects like thrips on glads and aphids on young
tender growth. Spray with Malathion, Diazinon or Orthene. • At the
end of February: peach, apple and pear fruit must be thinned to insure
quality production at harvest. • Give groundcovers a haircut. They will
spread faster. • Divide daylilies, daisies and other perennials now.

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER
St. Cuthbert is located at 17020 West Road, Houston (the northeast

events, visit us at www.stcuthbert.org.
You are invited to St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church’s Shrove Tuesday
Pancake Supper on February 9th from 5:30-7 PM. We will eat
pancakes and play bingo! Shrove Tuesday originated during the
Middle Ages. Food items like meats, fats, eggs, milk and fish were
regarded as restricted during Lent. To keep such food from being
wasted, many families would have big feasts on Shrove Tuesday.
The English tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday came
about as a way to use as much milk, fats and eggs as possible before
Ash Wednesday began. In France, the consumption of all fats and
fatty foods on this day coined the name “Fat Tuesday” or Mardi Gras.

Cornerstone United Methodist Church has partnered with Fiest
Elementary School to provide assistance to disadvantaged students
attending this elementary school located. More than 50% of the
students attending the school are classified as “below the poverty
level.” In order to assure that these students have the school supplies
they need, the “Friends of Fiest” at Cornerstone have established a
“Cornerstone Closet for Fiest.” This is an ongoing project whereby
a stockpile of supplies is maintained so that when students deplete
their initial supply and families cannot afford to replenish their needs,
teachers can draw from the stockpile in the “Closet” to provide needed
items. Currently the most needed items are composition books,
pencils, glue sticks and facial tissue. Contributions can be dropped
off in the church office or placed in the “Closet for Fiest” bend in the
lobby of the worship center. All contributions are welcomed.

Our World Thinking Day event in February is going to have booths
representing many different countries. So far, we have Vietnam,
Madagascar, Puerto Rico, Japan, Finland, Germany, Ireland, France,
China, Egypt and Canada signed up. World Thinking Day reminds
us that Scouting is an international organization and helps us learn
about our sister Scouts and Guides in other countries.
We will be returning to Wimberley for a Leader/Daughter event in
April and expect to enjoy horseback riding and rock climbing in
addition to playing and kayaking in the river. The Talent show and
Dutch Oven Cook-off are traditions at this event, but they are new
and different every year! This is always a special opportunity for
leaders to spend time with their OWN daughters.
Did you know that there are two Little Free Libraries locally that
were made by Girl Scouts? One is on the porch of the Copperfield
Community Center (15409 Willow River Drive) and the other is
inside the Langham Creek YMCA (16725 Longenbaugh). Troop
113035’s book collection drive for Lowery amassed over 600 books
(their goal was 400!), so they are planning to donate some books to
these libraries and they also filled up a Little Free Library next to the
Lowery Elementary School.
Daisy troop 113042 put together some “survival” bags, including
different kinds of candy, for the CY-Fair ISD police dept. They visited
the department in November and created a beautiful “thank you” sign
for the department.
Junior troop 16468 has been a very busy group of girls! They worked
on the Junior First Aid badge at several troop meetings. Among other
things, they learned basic CPR skills using dummies and learned
what to put in first aid kits, as well as how to use them. They also
worked on their “Business Owner “badge and had a special guest
speaker from the community. Their “Take Action” project has been
to make pillowcases for children with sleeping disorders at Texas
Children’s Hospital. They used the sewing skills they learned earlier
this year to make the pillow cases. Troop 16468 also partnered with
Troop 113017 in sorting, categorizing and wrapping holiday gifts
for the less fortunate families in our community. They also had fun
making gingerbread houses at their winter holiday party!

Girls and troops in the Cadette through Ambassador Girl Scout
levels are invited to join the Cy-Fair Region 4 Facebook group.
Opportunities for local special events and trainings for our older girl
members will be available there. Girl Scouts builds girls of courage,
confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten)
through 18, who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
Girls may join at any level and no previous Scouting experience is
required. Copper Creek Meadows serves girls in the residence areas
for the following elementary schools, as well as the corresponding
middle and high schools. Home schoolers and private school students
are always welcome. Our elementary schools are: Birkes, Fiest,
Hairgrove, Horne, Kirk, Lee, Lieder, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Tipps,
Wilson, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Texas Christian School and Christian
Life Center. For more information, please contact Marlo Folwell at

BOY SCOUTS
BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values
found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are
just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they
were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, selfconfidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship
skills that influence their adult lives.
The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and
activities that allow them to:
• Try new things.
• Provide service to others.
• Build self-confidence.
• Reinforce ethical standards.
Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as
individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility

BOY SCOUT TROOP 10
Boy Scout Troop 10 meets every Tuesday night during the school
year at the West Houston Church of Christ on West Road and
Queenston. Our meetings begin at 7 PM. We spend our time working
on merit badges, planning for our monthly camp outs and working on
ranks. We would like to congratulate our newest Eagle Scout, Vijay
Chandran! This young man has worked extremely hard and achieved
an award of great honor! Way to go Vijay, we are so proud of you!
Our Troop is also proud to announce that we will be having a double
Eagle Court of Honor on the 20th to celebrate Brandon Widaski
and Ricardo Munoz. This is such a special occasion and we are so
excited to be a part of it!
We had a wonderful Red and Tan Banquet at the end of January
where the scouts had a great time receiving their merit badges and
rank advancements under a Star Wars theme! We had a wonderful
Italian meal catered by Chris Weatherly Catering who has catered
this event for us for the last 5 years! Our January Campout to
Palmetto State Park was a great success and the boys are eagerly
awaiting our February camp out to Enchanted Rock! We are hoping
to get in a lot of hiking, climbing and geocaching!

SCOUTING JOKE FOR FEBRUARY
A Scout Master was teaching his Cub Scouts about survival in the
desert.
“What are the three most important things you should bring with you
in case you get lost in the desert?” he asked.
Several hands went up and many important things were suggested
such as food, matches, etc. Then one little boy in the back eagerly
raised his hand.
“Yes, Timmy, what are the three most important things you would
bring with you?” asked the Scout Master.
Timmy replied, “A compass, a canteen of water and a deck of cards.”
“Why’s that Timmy?”
“Well,” answered Timmy, “the compass is to find the right direction,
the water is to prevent dehydration...”
“And what about the deck of cards?” asked the Scout Master.
“Well, Sir, as soon as you start playing Solitaire, someone is bound to
come up behind you and say, “Put that red nine on top of that black ten!”

“I’m In PAIN”
Can Chiropractic Help ME ?
We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor
of chiropractic can help my problem?”
We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and
examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete
consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary,
(procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00.
We will make this special program available through February. The only exception
to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents)
in which there is no charge directly to the patient.
