With STEADY LOVE Maria Muldaur returns to
her much beloved New Orleans, the place she calls her
“musical and spiritual home,” and collaborates with
her favorite Crescent City musicians to produce a high
energy album of blues & swamp funk, full of soul & grit,
bad to the bone, and played with reckless abandon.
The album features a compelling mix of contemporary
blues tunes written by outstanding Blues/Americana
artists like Greg Brown, Elvin Bishop, Bobby Charles,
Stephen Bruton, Rick Vito, and Percy Mayfield.
Supporting Maria on all of these tunes is a core unit of A-list New Orleans funk veterans, all led by keyboard
wizard and funkmeister David Torkanowsky. Guitarist Shane Theriot, bassist Johnny Allen (the subdudes),
and drummer Kenny Blevins (John Hiatt’s all-star backing band, The Goners) all turn in inspired, high octane
performances. Participation by New Orleans traditional jazz’n’funk drummer Shannon Powell, local guitar ace
Cranston Clements, and a final mix by veteran producer (and multi-Grammy winner) John Porter all work
to make this one of the most attention-grabbing, widely accessible, and soul-satisfying releases of Muldaur’s
remarkably varied and vibrant career.
Maria Muldaur is best known world wide for her 1974 mega hit, “Midnight At The Oasis,” and her follow up hit, the
iconic feminine anthem, “I’m A Woman,” but despite her considerable success, her 47 year career could be described as a
long and rambling odyssey though various forms of American Roots Music.
Maria has recorded 36 albums covering all genres of music, from Jazz to Big Band, to Gospel to several children’s
records. Since the early 90’s she has comfortably settled into her favorite idiom, the Blues, recording and producing an
album per year. Several have recently been nominated for Grammies and other awards. She continues to actively tour and
perform at festivals.
