Fiscal Year 9/30/15 Annual Report
Family Services
of the Merrimack Valley
Annual Report 2015
History
& Mission
In December, 1854, a group of caring citizens from the City
of Lawrence, MA, created a relief society to meet the social
service needs of newly arrived mill workers. At that time,
they established The Provident Association, later named
the Lawrence City Mission, and known today as Family
Services of the Merrimack Valley.
Over its long history, Family Services has changed in many
ways, but its mission has remained steadfast, to empower,
nurture, and support children and families through life’s
challenges to help them reach their full potential.
Rooted in compassion and respect for the diverse population it serves, Family Services helps more than 4,000
people in the Merrimack
Valley each year through
over 20 high quality programs focused on youth
development, parent education, and emotional wellness. All of these services
are infused with a sense
of hope and possibility
and produce tangible and
sustainable change, enabling individuals to thrive
in their family, community,
workplace and school.

Dear Friends,
We are proud to share with you this annual report, which
highlights the work of Family Services in its fiscal year ending 9/30/2015. Since its founding, the organization has
worked diligently to improve the lives of children and families in our community. In 2015, Family Services continued
with that tradition, and did so with great success.
This past year, Family Services improved the lives of over
4,000 children and families. But we did not do this alone.
The work of our organization is the work of a community.
Hundreds of donors, volunteers and staff assist the organization in fulfilling its mission…to empower, nurture and
support children and families through life’s challenges to
help them reach their full potential.
This mission is carried out in a wide variety of over 20
programs. From play groups for young families to inhome care for isolated elders, Family Services provides
programs across the lifespan.
expanded the scope of six of its programs. The important
part of all this growth is the positive impact it is having
on the community and its members.
Once again, the impact we are able to have is the result of
the investment of time and resources from donors, volunteers, staff and collaborators. Thank you all for making
2015 another successful year!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Sweeney
