HABITAT BUYING GUIDES
Bedding
To some, bedding is simply a basic staple–something that has to
be comfortable but neutral, so that bedroom accessories can do
the talking. To others, it’s about injecting colour, print or luxury
into one’s sleeping arrangements–to be the focal point if you like.
This is why Habitat has created ranges both plain and patterned,
so that there’s plenty to choose from. Of the plain there are
different fabrics, different colours and different finishes, and with
the patterned there is the bold and the detailed.

What fabrics and finishes can bedding be made of?
Bedding has the ability to look and feel very different depending on its make-up and weave. The
majority of Habitat bedding is made from 100% cotton, with a small number of patterned ranges
designed in polycotton for ease of care.
The fabric you go for depends on your personal preference, and on what gives you the best and
most comfortable night’s sleep–that is what it’s all about, after all. Comfort, feel against your
skin, breathability and durability are all considerations when choosing your bedding.
BEDDING FABRICS
WASHED – GRE Y
DITSY YELLOW
PL AIN
Plain bedding has the benefit of
being restful on the eye.
PRINTED
All our printed bed linens are
designed in house. Printed on
100% cotton or easycare cotton
blends, they introduce bold
pattern to the bedroom.
Bedding with less decoration also
have the benefit of being able to be
dressed up and accessorised with
bedspreads, quilts or throws and
cushions, which can be changed or
updated as often as you like.
WASHED SATEEN GRE Y / PINK
PERCALE WHITE
SATEEN
This fabric is woven with warp
yarns that are floated over weft
yarns for a smooth and luxurious
feel. Our Sateen range is made
from 100% Egyptian cotton.
PERCALE
Percale is known for its smart,
crisp, plain look and refers to
fabric woven with more than 180
threads per square inch. Our
Percale range is made from 100%
Egyptian cotton.

What fabrics and finishes can bedding be made of?
MONICA
SK YE GRE Y
JACQUARD
This refers to fabric woven on a
jacquard loom to create detailed,
complex designs using many
colours. Some can have a raised
texture from having two layers
of fabric woven together. Backed
with a 200 thread count cotton
Percale, all Habitat’s dense,
luxurious jacquard ranges make a
true investment.
EGYPTIAN COTTON
Egyptian cotton has a longer fibre
length, meaning it produces a
finer yarn and therefore a superior
fabric. It has added softness and
a feeling of luxury. Over time and
with use, it becomes softer.
Many of Habitat’s bedding ranges
are made with Egyptian cotton.
Where it is used, it’s included in
the description and details of the
item or range online.
BEDDING TECHNIQUES
WHAT IS THREAD COUNT?
Thread count refers to the number of threads
per inch of fabric. The general wisdom is that
a higher thread count achieves a higher quality
fabric.
At Habitat, our bed linens have a variety of
thread counts depending on the look, feel and
price of the fabric we’ve created. We think
which one you choose is down to personal
preference–the feel of each individual range
and how it suits each individual customer.
Where thread count is particularly high–for
example with our Sateen range–we have
included it in the details and description online.

WHAT COLOUR BEDDING SHOULD
I GO FOR?
This is entirely up to you. It depends on the
colour palette of your bedroom and whether
you’re wanting your bedding to create a splash
of colour, or for it to tone in with the rest of
your room.
Plain bedding has the benefit of being brilliant
for layering, so that different tones can be put
together. It can be calming too.
Patterned bedding can add interest and fun,
and be a real focal point. This can tie in with
other bedroom accessories you might have in
the same or complimentary tones.

What are the standard bedding sizes?
At the moment, all of our sheets and bedding sets adhere to European sizing, which is ever so
slightly different to the UK standard. But to make things easier all around, we’ve now decided
to change everything – that means beds, mattresses and bedding – to the UK standard. To ease
through the transition, we’ll carry both sizes – confusing, we know! – so please make sure you
check individual products for sizing details.

How do you take care of bedding?
All our bedding is machine washable
and although fine to be tumble-dried, we
recommend this should be done on a low heat.
For specific care instructions on our ranges,
please see the individual product’s label.
