• NOV. 10: Longtime Beatles secretary
Freda Kelly appears at East Tennessee
State University, Johnson City, Tenn., with
filmmaker Kathy McCabe as the Mary B.
Martin School of the Arts presents “Good Ol’
Freda,” a documentary on Kelly and her 11
years with the influential band. The screening
starts at 7 p.m. in the Martha Street Culp
Auditorium. The film and reception to follow
are free and open to the public. McCabe
and Kelly are touring as part of the South
Arts Southern Circuit Tour of Independent
Filmmakers and will hold a Q&A with the
audience after the film. In “Good Ol’ Freda,”
Kelly tells her stories for the first time in 50
years. One of few documentaries with the
support of the living Beatles and featuring
original Beatles music, the film offers an
insider’s perspective on the beloved band

• NOV. 10: “Oklahoma!” is on screen
at the Abingdon Cinemall, Abingdon, Va., at
7 p.m. Barter Theatre, in partnership with
the VHCC Arts Array, celebrates the films
of Oscar-winning actress Shirley Jones. The
first musical from the team of Rogers and
Hammerstein; based on the play “Green
Grow the Lilacs.” In the Oklahoma territory
at the turn of the 20th century, two young
cowboys vie with an evil ranch hand and a
traveling peddler for the hearts of the women

• NOV. 11: “Elmer Gantry” is shown
at the Abingdon Cinemall, Abingdon, Va., at
7 p.m. Barter Theatre, in partnership with
the VHCC Arts Array, celebrates the films
of Oscar-winning actress Shirley Jones.
Elmer Gantry is a fast-talking, hard-drinking
traveling salesman who always has a risqué
story and a hip flask to entertain cronies
and customers. He is immediately taken
with Sister Sharon Falconer, a lay preacher
whose hellfire and damnation revivalism has

Fundraisers
• NOV. 1-8: Slocumb Galleries and the
department of art and design in partnership
with East Tennessee State University
student clubs and local artists present
the Homecoming Art and Craft Sale at
Slocumb Galleries. Funds support student
art clubs and the galleries’ visiting artists
program. The sale is open Nov. 1 from noon
to 5 p.m., and Nov. 3-8 from 10 a.m. to 5

• NOV: 6-9: William King Museum
of Arts’ fundraiser, Mistletoe Market, is
held at Southwest Virginia Higher Education
Center, Abingdon, Va. The market features
100 merchants, onsite café, entertainment
by local musicians, holiday workshops, door
prizes, children’s art activities and a visit by
Santa Nov. 9. Nov. 6 is the gala from 7-10
p.m., $100 each. Nov. 7-8, the market is
open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 5
p.m., Nov. 9. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4
children ages 6-12. On Sunday, children

• NOV. 22: The Bristol Music Club
presents A Scholarship Benefit and
Anniversary Gala celebrating the club’s
100th anniversary at The Paramount Center
for the Arts, Bristol, Tenn. The event includes
a fashion show by Massengill’s of Johnson
City, Tenn., a musical program presented by
former scholarship winners Lydia Smythe,
piano, Martha Eason, soprano and Daniel
Blair, violin, and a reception in the theater’s
lobby. Music for the reception includes a
string trio of former scholarship winners
Benjamin Dawson, Bethany Dawson and
Cameron Lugo. All attendees are entered
into a drawing for door prizes. Tickets for the
event are $20 and may be purchased from
