Dearly beloved in Jesus Christ,
In a small town in which there were no liquor shops, a nightclub was built right on the
main street. Members of one of the churches in that area were very disturbed about this.
They conducted several all-night prayer meetings and asked God to burn down that den
of sin. A short while later, lightning struck the night club and it was completely destroyed
by fire. The owner of the nightclub knew that the church members were praying for its
destruction; so he sued them for damages. His lawyer claimed that the prayers of the
church members had caused the loss. The congregation also hired the service of a lawyer
and fought the charges. The judge heard both sides and after much deliberation
declared, “It is the opinion of the court that wherever the guilt may lie, the tavern keeper is
the one who really believes in prayer while the church members do not”.
Often we pray but do not give credit to God for answering our prayers. Sometimes we do
not even expect an answer.

God knows our needs but he wants us to acknowledge them before Him. Taking our
needs to God reveals our sense of need and dependence on Him. Do we pray about the
specific needs in our lives? It may be physical illness, financial problems or other baffling
situations. Often we talk to everyone else about them, but do not take them to God. We
murmur against Him and ask, “God, why did you allow this to happen to me? What have
I done to deserve it?”. The right thing to do is to bring all our needs and grievances to
Him. Prayer is the expression of our Personal relationship to God. As it is our means of
communication with him we should keep the lines of communication open. The lines of
communication of some people with God is always out of order like a faulty telephone
connection. On the night when the great ship Titanic sank in the Atlantic Ocean, many
ships in that vicinity tried to send warning messages concerning the icebergs. But they
could not listen to them as the merry making passengers were jamming the wireless
equipment with senseless messages to friends in Britain and America. Our lives are often
jammed with worldly things that we love and our channels of communication with God
are often clogged up. Let us open our Channel of Life to the Power of God. He will help
us to overcome all the life experiences of this world. “I love the Lord because He has heard
my voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined his ear towards me, therefore I
will call upon Him as long as I live”. (Ps 116:1-2) Let this be our prayer every day.
