EUTEX BROADENS PRODUCT OFFERING
In response to the sharp increase in inquiries for it’s now established product line of Nexans/
AmerCable Gexol Type P cable, EUTEX has not only dramatically increased their stock profile to
accommodate for the demand, but also increased the breadth of their product range as well.
The obvious first requirement was to marry its Type P cable with the
appropriate glands and connectors for a more complete solution. But
the partnership with Nexans/AmerCable has given rise to international
project work involving elaborate cable bridles and pre-connectorized

SINGAPORE MAKING STRIDES
The Singapore office is pleased to announce its success in winning the prestigious contract for
3x ship sets of VFD Gexol Type P IEEE Cables for the Ensco Drillship’s, B346, B330 & B329 for a
value of 4.4 million USD. This prestigious win with our exclusive partner Nexans /AmerCable again
demonstrates the strides that the EUTEX Pacific branch continues to make in the area. The first
cables have already been delivered to the yard from stock held by the EUTEX group.
Regional Director Graham Cooper is excited to see the EUTEX global brand further establish itself
in the region. “Competition was limited due to the specialist nature and technical benefits that
the AmerCable brand offers in their IEEE range of GEXOL cables; a lot of hard work and technical
specification helped land this supply order. We’re proud to announce this win to our business and
manufacturer partners,” says Cooper.
EUTEX Pacific also has been very successful in the winning of a 1.5 million USD contract for cable
business with Seadrill for the T15/16 and 17 Rigs and West Esperanza project.

complete hazardous-area packages with a global leader in hazardous-area supply and manufactured

SAFETY BRIEF
AREA CLASSIFICATION – THE WHOLE PICTURE
Recently ATEC has had the opportunity to inspect multiple drilling rigs,
throughout various parts of the world and in a few different arenas –
both onshore and offshore.
While we find the industry striving to make operations as safe as
possible and “up their game” on safety, there is one startling fact we
continuously run across, especially within the drilling industry in the
USA: hazardous areas are NOT marked or specified correctly.
While it’s true that it is critical that drilling and production platforms
or rigs indicate – correctly – the areas of the facility which have
potentially explosive atmospheres, merely indicating the hazardous
area itself is not nearly enough information to operate these very
dangerous areas safely.
Equipment intended to be used in areas with potentially explosive
atmospheres – hazardous areas – are designed according to a RISK
analysis, determined by their ability to successfully prevent ignition of
an explosive atmosphere.

in normal and specified fault conditions

Level of hazard (how often the hazardous atmosphere exists)
– by division or zone rating
2.
TYPE of hazard (gas or dust) and its properties – or at least
the CATEGORY of risk it belongs to (gas group)

The IGNITION TEMPERATURE of the hazard

The general or most common AMBIENT temperature of the
area
However, what we have found is prevalent in the drilling industry is
simply a designation of the ZONE, or DIVISION – indicating how often
the hazardous atmosphere may be present, and NO other information. With only that information, choosing equipment for installation in
hazardous areas SAFELY is simply not possible.
This risk analysis considers several key factors:
How often the equipment will be subjected to a hazardous
atmosphere
What explosive mixtures / materials it is suitable for –
different materials have different ignition properties
In order to properly select equipment which is safe to operate in
hazardous areas, therefore, four items of information MUST be
known:
Although it’s somewhat puzzling, the overall reason seems to be some
misleading information published by organizations which only provide
PART of the whole picture, and the industry follows that information.

ALAN FRIAR – Regional Account Manager,

ATEC continues to expand in all of the major
growth markets such as the USA, Singapore,
Australia and Brazil. In Singapore we recently
deployed 40 personnel to complete
Hazardous Areas Inspection works for a major
operator client and continue to offer
support throughout Singapore and Brazil on various projects. We now
have inspection contracts in place with other major EPC companies
in USA, Europe, Asia and Australia which guarantees work for the next
two years and has the potential, in line with our business model, to
allow ATEC to grow into one of the world’s leading hazardous-areainspection companies. Our General Manager, Brian Duffy, has
recently returned from Brazil where another partnership with one of
Brazil’s leading NR10 specialist companies was formally agreed. This
partnership also allows ATEC to closely monitor and assist in the
Creation of Training and Inspection standards compliant with the
Brazilian IECEx regulations, due to be formalized in 2013.
Alan joins us with 20 years experience in
technical sales consultancy focused on IEC and
ATEX certified products. He holds four patents
for product design and innovation, as well as
having written an industry-approved white paper
on deep earthing techniques and practices. We
look forward to him adding his strengths to our
already well-versed team.
