FAITH SHAPER RESOURCES
Making lifelong disciples of children and youth is a key priority of our church.
We believe that it is time to have the important discussions on what formational
experiences they need. In partnership with the Interdenominational National
conversation here2stay, South Pacific Division and Australian Conferences Children’s
Ministries have put together 7 Essential Experiences that will shape this faith that
stays. We want this faith to be deep, and it needs to be strong and active.
This is not a program. It doesn’t sit with one department. It doesn’t sit with one age
group. ‘Faith Shaper’ is a set of experiences from birth to eighteen years that should
determine how all Departments do ministry. We are asking that everyone – church,
home and school, to study the experiences and put in place strategies that ensure
they happen well. We believe that collaboratively we CAN achieve this. We can reverse
the flow. We CAN produce lifelong disciples for Jesus
Faith Shaper Intro Booklet
This A5 booklet introduces Faith Shaper, the research and how important these 7
essential experiences are to your children and your church in a informative manner. A
really good way to introduce Faith Shaper to your church pastor, leaders, families and
members.

Baby Dedication
Baby dedication is not a time of salvation, it is it baptism, but it is a dedication on the
part of the parents to bring the child up to love and serve the Lord.

Child’s Commitment Ceremony
Research indicates that between the ages of 5 and 12, lifelong habits, values, beliefs
and attitudes are formed and that at this age the brain is the most receptive to
spirituality. Children at this age are generally discouraged from being baptised into
the church, as some consider them to be too young. However, when faith is not
affirmed, children are left feeling unsupported or valued. We need to show them that
we take their commitment seriously and that we will be beside them in their faith
journey.
It is for this reason that the concept of a commitment ceremony has been developed
by the Children’s Ministry Department of the Seventh-day Adventist church.

Just for Kids – Understanding our church
An essential part of helping kids to fully participate in our church community is
explaining our church traditions. These can often appear to be abstract and irrelevant to
kids until we take the time explain what is going on, why we do it and what it all means.
To help you generate discussion with your kids around some of our church traditions
we have developed a series of A5 printouts that can be inserted in your church bulletin
when there is a dedication, baptism or communion happening in your church.

Celebrations Healthy Inside Out Series for Children
The little decisions we make every day can help to keep us healthy. That’s why it’s
important to learn the secrets for feeling good! If you choose to do these things every
day, you will be happy and energetic. This doesn’t mean you’ll never get sick. We live
in a world of contamination, and sometimes bad things happen to good people. But
your chances of getting sick are much smaller if you choose to live a healthy lifestyle.
This series of resources produced by the General Conference includes the ‘Celebrations
book’, ‘A Musical Journey’ and ‘Fun Skits For Kids’. These resources are all about the joy
of being healthy inside and out! And the secrets for feeling good and being healthy.

and help them discover what prayer means to them as they develop lifelong faith.

5 Ways to say ‘I Love You’
We believe that we were created by a loving God, so it is only natural that children
need to feel loved in order to best develop and succeed. But if you and your child
speak different love languages, your display of love might get lost in translation. In
order to help you communicate “I Love You” effectively with your child we have we
developed this simple activity, based on Gary Chapman’s 5 love languages, as a way
to empower your home through building authentic relationships.

10 Things I love about you
The power of words is an unbelievable thing. They cultivate a range of emotions.
Words can inspire, encourage, devastate, uplift, tear down and ultimately change
the direction of a child or spouse’s day, week, and in some rare instances, their life.
Be purposely intentional by taking just ten minutes each day to make a profound
difference for one you love by communicating ‘I love you’. D

Let’s Start Talking
Sometimes talking to children and each other can feel daunting. That is why we
have developed these question sets, to give you a spring board for starting those
conversations in your church, home and school. The weekly challenge is to pick up
one question set and talk to someone you have not talked to before.
