Faculty of Education The Chinese University of Hong Kong 香港中文大學教育學院 2007-08年度教學實習回顧 2007-08 Teaching Practice Review 學實習」乃中文大學教育學院學位 教師教育文憑課程及教育學士學課 程的重要部分，旨在為學員提供實 踐教學理論的機會。透過教學實習，學員可以 了解擬任教主修科之教學內容，並實踐各種教 學活動、教材編寫及課堂管理，體驗實際的教 學情況。 eaching Practice (TP) is an integral part of both Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Bachelor of Education programmes, allowing students to put theories into practice. Students will be given an opportunity to develop and enhance their teaching performance in a variety of local school settings. Through TP, not only do students understand the subject disciplines they teach, they are also able to develop competence in learning activities design. 「教學實習」乃由實習前準備、微格教 學、到校實習及實習後檢討幾個部分組成，以 體現教學實習的過程及成果。所有全日制學員 會由學院分派到全港中、小學進行實習，而兼 讀制學員則會在其任職學校進行，具體教學安 排會因應各個課程要求而有所不同。 Consisting of several elements including “pre TP preparation”, “micro-teaching”, “teaching practicum” and “post TP evaluation”, TP provides students with a step-by-step progression into full lesson planning and implementation. Full-time students will be placed in Hong Kong secondary and primary schools to conduct TP, while part-time students are expected to carry out TP at their serving schools. Being appointed by the Faculty, Teaching Advisers (TAs) are experienced teachers in schools within Hong Kong. The appointment of TAs is usually nominated by participating schools or the Faculty teaching staff. Besides enhancing the Faculty-schools partnership, the “Teaching Adviser Scheme” also allow students to observe and reflect upon the TP process under TAs’ supervision. The experience and comments of TAs also serve as students’ important guidance to improve their teaching performance. To ensure that all the appointed teachers understand the roles of TA, the Faculty will arrange a “Teaching Adviser Scheme Briefing” for all TAs before each TP period. The briefing will introduce the roles and responsibilities of TAs, arrangement during the TP period, and evaluation procedures in detail. 學位教師教育文憑課程 Postgraduate Diploma in Education Programmes 學位教師教育文憑課程旨在為香港中、小學培訓專業教師。本課程分中學課程(PGDE)及小學課程(PGDP)兩種，兩個 課程皆可選擇以一年全日制或兩年兼讀制模式修讀。一年全日制課程主要培訓有志投身教育事業的大學生成為專業中學或 小學教師，而兩年兼讀制課程主要為現職中、小學教師提供專業培訓，並為其持續專業發展奠下良好基礎。 The Postgraduate Diploma in Education programmes are designed to prepare students to teach in Hong Kong primary schools (PGDP programme) or secondary schools (PGDE programme). Both programmes are offered in one-year full-time mode and two-year part-time mode. The Faculty is now accepting enrollment for the school year 2009-2010. Upon graduation, students of these two programmes will be awarded both degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education at the same time. The co-terminal double degree programmes strengthen students’ knowledge base and teaching skills, both academic and professional, to meet today’s educational challenges. Same as the structure of LED programmes, students of co-terminal double degree programmes are also required to complete all TP activities, including School Visits, School Attachment and TP, in order to fulfil the graduation requirements. Bachelor of Education (Liberal Studies) Programme Another new programme offered by the Faculty in 2009-2010 is B.Ed of Liberal Studies Programme. It is designed to develop students’ base of knowledge, both academic and professional, in teaching the three “Areas of Study”—“Self and Personal Development”, “Society and Culture” and “Science, Technology and the Environment”— as prescribed in liberal studies in the new senior secondary school curriculum. Offered by the Faculty in collaboration with four other Faculties (Arts, Medicine, Science and Social Science), this programme allows students to study a wide range of subjects, helping them consolidate their multi-disciplinary knowledge base and analytical thinking. Throughout the four years of study, students will be able to integrate theory into practice by way of school visits and attachment in Years 1 and 2, and TP in Years 3 and 4. In 2007-08, four TP briefing sessions were held in different schedules: • September 2007 (for PGDE and PGDP students) • October 2007 (for PGDE and PGDP students) • January 2008 (for LED students) • February 2008 (for PGDE and PGDP students) • April 2008 (for LED students) Detailed information about TP will be introduced and explained to students, including the actual TP arrangement, preparation tips, assessment criteria, important student notice, Teaching Adviser Scheme, etc. 19 教學實習檢討會 教學實習檢討會讓學員從實際教學實習經驗中反思及改 進，學員除了在主修科講師指導下進行學科教學的檢討外， 亦會參加教學實習檢討會。 學位教師教育文憑課程及學位教師教育文憑(小學)課程 第一次教學實習檢討會2007年12月初舉行，學員於會上除 了檢討實習表現，更獲校友葉善瑜小姐到來分享經驗。第二 次教學實習檢討會於2008年5月舉行，反思教學成效，同場 並簡介「教師入職啟導計劃」，讓學員加以了新任教師的專 業發展。 教育學士（語文教育）學位課程教學實習檢討會於2008 年4月舉行，學員互相分享自己的經驗，從而改進自己的不 足之處。 Teaching Practice Review Session In addition to TP Briefing, a “Teaching Practice Review” (TP Review) will also be held every year upon completion of TP. The TP Review provides students with an opportunity to reflect on their performance. Students can also share with peers about the skills and knowledge they have developed under the guidance of their practicum schools and TAs within the TP period. Both general and subject-specific discussions will be held during the session. The first TP Review for PGDP students was held in early December 2007. To strengthen students’ reflection process, the Faculty also invited a former graduate of PGDP programme, Ms Yip Sin-yu, to share her valuable experience with the students. The second TP Review was held in May 2008. Besides reflection and sharing, an introduction on a “Teacher Induction Scheme” was also presented to ensure that students would have a better understanding of the latest trend on new teacher’s professional development. The “Teacher Induction Scheme” is recommended by the Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications (ACTEQ), suggesting that each school should set up a system of teacher induction in order to provide their beginning teachers with a systematic, supportive and comprehensive environment conducive to their professional development. The TP Review for LED students was held in April 2008. Not only did the session provide students with an opportunity to reflect on and share their school experience with peer. Through this kind of peer review, students should be able to have a more thorough understanding of their strengths and weaknesses in teaching. 20 職業講座 Career Talk 為了提升學員的求職技巧，學院會為學員舉辦不同類型 的職業講座，讓學員裝備自己，迎接求職的挑戰。教學實 習辦事處於2007-08年度第二學期初先後舉辦兩場講座，邀 請到崇真書院校長張文彪博士為學員主講。 To start looking for the first teaching job after graduation, students have a lot to prepare. In order to strengthen students’ job hunting skills, several career talks were held by the TP Office to better equip students for an exciting journey of job hunting and career preparation. In the second term of 2007-08, the TP Office invited Dr Cheung Man-biu Robin to give two career talk sessions on a topic “From Job Interviews to Teacher Professionalism – A Principal’s Perspective”. Dr Cheung is the Principal of Tsung Tsin College and is a committee member of the Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications (ACTEQ). 「從校長觀點出發─由求職面試到教師專業表現」 第一場講座於2008年1月25日舉行，張博士以「從校長 觀點出發─由求職面試到教師專業表現」為題，與全日制教 育學士(語文教育)學位課程的三、四年級學員探討教育界對 教師專業表現的要求，並分享求職及面試技巧。 he first talk was held on 25 January 2008 for Year 3 and Year 4 students of LED programmes. In the talk, Dr Cheung discussed various topics on the requirements of a professional teacher. The TP Office invited Mr Dennis Chan, Principal of HKUGA College, to speak to students at the TP Review. During the talk, Mr Chan shared many useful tips on teaching with students. In order to enhance the connection between the Faculty and all participating schools, the “Teaching Adviser Scheme Annual Gathering” will be held every year by the Faculty. All participating schools and TAs will be invited to the gathering to exchange and share ideas on teacher education and teachers’ continuous professional development. Their ideas will provide important insight into the planning and improvement of the Faculty’s teacher education programmes. The “Teaching Adviser Scheme Annual Gathering 2007-08” was held on 13 June 2008. The Faculty invited Mr Chan Tak-hang, Consultant of School-based Support Service of Education Bureau to give a talk on “Classroom Management Strategies”. With years of experience in teaching and school administration, Mr Chan was formerly a principal at Chiu Chau Association Secondary School and a vice-principal of Pui Ching Middle School.
