EACH FAMILY HAS
ITS PASSION
A PASSION FOR JAPANESE CUISINE
The Olsen family usually lives in Sotra, Norway, where they enjoy skiing and the
company of their children, Jill and Steg, and grandchildren. The couple have owned a
villa at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club for over two years now, located in the Palmito
Community. Apart from the tranquillity of the surroundings, the beautiful countryside
and, of course, the golf, the Olsens have begun to enjoy the delights of Japanese cuisine
at enso sushibar, which they fully admit they have “fallen in love with”.
Is your villa at Las Colinas
your first or second home?
How often do you come here?
Las Colinas is our second home
and we come here as often as we
can. It's a fantastic place to live
and enjoy our main hobby: golf.
How long have you owned your
villa at Las Colinas Golf &
Country Club? Why did you
choose Las Colinas over other
options?
We have had the villa for two and
a half years now. We chose Las
Colinas firstly for the area. We
knew the area well, as we had
owned property in San Miguel de
Salinas previously. We really
liked the resort at Las Colinas
Golf & Country Club, the quality
of the villas and, as keen golf players; we fell in love with the golf
course at first sight. The tranquillity and fact that it is a low density property development were
also key factors in deciding to stay
here. Moreover, we like the
people who work at Las Colinas
very much, as they make us feel
at home here.
We know you spend a lot of
time here, would you like to
live at Las Colinas permanently?
We like snow and skiing a lot so
it's ideal for us to spend half the
year in Las Colinas and the other

practising this winter sport, we

You are regular customers at
the enso sushibar restaurant.
How do you rate Japanese
cuisine?
We love it; we believe Japanese
cuisine is healthy and delicious.
In Norway we often eat sushi but
ever since we tried the food at
enso sushibar we eat more sushi
here than we do in Norway.
“Our friends and family love
visiting us when we're at Las

What do you think of the enso
sushibar?
We love the food served there, it
is very fresh and tasty, and we
always receive a warm welcome.
Apart from sampling the enso
menu at the restaurant, do you
use the take away service?
We've tried it from time to time
but we usually prefer to eat in at
the restaurant, as we love walking
through the woods to the
Clubhouse. That way we combine
food and exercise.
What do you like doing best
when you come to Las Colinas?
We love playing golf and play
about four times a week. We also
try to take part in all the
tournaments organised here. In
fact, we have met some really nice
people, owners and visitors, while
playing golf with whom we have
shared other activities at Las
Colinas.

MY FAVOURITE
HOBBY
“As soon as we turn into the natural gorge at the
entrance of Las Colinas we switch into relax mode”
Las Colinas has been home to a very special resident for over a year and half now: the
Belgian tennis professional, Olivier Rochus. After visiting the villa owned by family
members at Golf & Country Club, Olivier and his girlfriend, Jessica, fell in love with
the place and decided to buy an apartment immediately at Las Colinas. Apart from
making the most of his stay to train for tennis tournaments and practise other sports,
Olivier relaxes here, away from the hectic pace of professional competitions, enjoying
the peace and quiet of the surroundings to the full, in company of his family.
Why did you choose Las Colinas
Golf & Country Club to buy
your home?
Because it was exactly what we
were looking for: a second home in
an area with plenty more sunshine
than rain, where there was a golf
course and swimming pools, and
near the sea.
What attracted to you to Las
Colinas?
The place itself. The setting is
beautiful and peaceful. We usually
live at a very fast pace; travelling
all the time, moving to a different
city every week to play in a new
tournament, but as soon as we
turn into the natural gorge at the
entrance to Las Colinas we switch
into relax mode.
When was your apartment
handed over at Las Colinas?
We've been owners for around a
year and a half.
We know you are a tennis
professional, what does it take
to become a prestigious
international player?
It takes many hours of hard
training, great mental strength
both on and off court, and, of
course, a great passion for tennis.
As a tennis pro and lover of the
sport, what would you
highlight about our amenities?
Las Colinas is a fantastic place to
play sport. There are two very good
clay courts; a fitness centre, which
is small but well equipped; and a
natural trail, which is ideal for
running. Besides, the hilly
landscape of the resort and
surrounding areas are ideal for
cycling.

The climate at Las Colinas is
perfect for playing sport all
year round, was this an
important factor when
choosing your second home?
The climate in general was a
decisive factor. Winter is very long
in northern Europe, so it's great to
be able to get away to the sun in
Spain. And, of course, you can play
tennis outdoors all year round at
Colinas. I can also prepare for the

physically and technically, working
to improve my game, which is
always great.
Apart from tennis, do you play
other sports when you visit Las
Colinas?
Golf. Lots of golf! I love it. I also
really like cycling and cooking but,
above all, spending time with my
girlfriend, family and friends.

WHAT'S NEW
AT LAS COLINAS
It is a different and memorable
experience, during which you can
interact with one of our birds of
prey and enjoy the thrill of
watching their free flight through
Mediterranean woodland. You can
relish very special moments on
the walk, such as the sensation
of carrying a hawk perched on
your gauntlet or seeing the bird
obey your call and fly straight
back to your fist.
The privileged location of Las
Colinas International School
of Falconry enables you to
enjoy the art of falconry in
unique natural surroundings.

Las Colinas International School
of Falconry is run by a team of
professionals, who are experts in
rearing, training and handling
birds of prey. They look after a
wide range of birds including
hawks, falcons, owls and
goshawks, which are trained by
our falconers and are accustomed
to interacting regularly with
people.
An activity aimed at all age
groups: adults and children
You don't have to be an expert or
even an enthusiast. Anyone who
wishes to take part can enjoy the
experience of flying a Harris
hawk, a species known for its
sociable nature, for the first time,
or other birds of prey at the school.
Moreover, one of our specialised
instructors accompanies you at
all times on the walk, providing
the necessary guidelines and help
and any materials needed

KIDS’ CLUB
At the Kids' Club at Las Colinas
children play, learn and have fun
Children also have
their own space at Las
Colinas Golf &
Country Club. The
Kids' Club runs a host
of outdoor sports,
games and activities so
that the kids can have
a great time, make
new friends and enjoy
the wonderfully sunny
local climate.
Everyone up!
A morning spent at the Kids' Club
is a morning full of fun and
sport.The day starts around nine
with tennis lessons. Las Colinas
Golf & Country Club has two clay
courts and an artificial grass
court, which means children can
get used to different surfaces.
At ten o'clock, they switch to
paddle tennis, a sport that is very
much in fashion at the moment.
16
The kids get to play on
a court that is in top
condition.
Our aim is for kids to
learn the techniques
they need to play
these sports but
also to have a good
time,
enjoy
themselves and
spend time with
other children.
The Kids' Club is run by qualified
monitors and instructors so that kids
can have fun practising the best techniques in paddle tennis, tennis
and golf, right from the start.
Recharge your energy levels!
After all this exercise, it's time to
rest and eat something before English lessons. Our bilingual monitors
will help children learn English in
a fun and enjoyable way. Group conversations, workshops, games, or
watching films are just some of the
activities that help them learn to the
max and have a great time.
Breakfast is served at the
UNiK CAFÉ; it is rich in
vitamins and always includes at least one portion
of fruit, as this is very important at this age. This
recharges the kids' energy
levels to enable them to carry
on with a morning packed with
activities.
Young golfers' school
At twelve o'clock, the kids
practise golf, the main sport at
Las Colinas Golf & Country Club.
Robert is the ideal instructor, a PGA
professional with years of coaching
experience behind him. We also have
an unbeatable golf course, with superb surroundings, view and design.
And to finish the day, until one
o'clock, children can practise any
sport or activity they want. This is
their free choice hour. At the Kids'
Club we plan a whole morning of fun
so that children make friends as well
as learn.

Las Colinas hosts the final of
the '8th West Syndrome Tour'
On 14 January 2012, the West Syndrome
Foundation closed its golf season with a fantastic
weekend competition at Las Colinas Golf &
Country Club.
The winner of the first category, was the golf
professional Itziar Elguezábal, with a score of
68, followed by Lorenzo Rico, with 63.
Fernando González won the second category,
scoring 74, followed by Leonard Roig with a score
of 60. In the doubles match, victory went to
Fernando González and Fernando Sánchez, with
a total of 99 strokes.
The competition was held over two days during
which competitors played singles and doubles
matches.
The atmosphere was amazing, as everyone was
made to feel part of the big West Syndrome
Foundation family. It brought together old friends
such as Bernd Schuster, Isidoro San José,
Máximo Pradera, Ángel Rodríguez, Valentín

The fundraising magic festival
'Grandes ilusiones', sponsored
by Las Colinas proves a great
success
On 16 and 17 March 2012, the third 'Grandes
Ilusiones' fundraising festival, organised by the Gmp
Foundation, was held at the Teatro Circo in Murcia,
playing to a full house.
On this occasion, all the funds raised went to the
association FEAPS in the Murcia Region, with the
aim of improving the living standards of people with
Down's Syndrome and other cognitive disabilities
in the Murcia Region.
The show featured some of the best magicians on
the scene today such as Carlos Serrate, Félix,
Fernando Arribas, Jaime Figueroa, James Garibo,
Jorge Blass, Kayto, Mag Gerard, Riversson y Willy
Monroe, and invited artists Juan Luis Hurtado

event again in 2013.

In July 2012, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club

Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, aware of the need
for people with different abilities to enjoy and share
their leisure time normally and in the same
environments as everyone else, is committed to
promoting inclusive leisure actively by implementing
activities of this nature.
The Manager Director at Las Colinas Golf & Country
Club, Cristóbal Guerrero, said that the visit had been
“a very rewarding experience for all involved,
particularly for those of us who accompanied the
young people and had the opportunity to share leisure
time with them.” Cristobal Guerrero added that
initiatives like this “help us to understand better the
concerns and interests of this specific group of people.
The challenge at Las Colinas is for all visitors,
without exception, to enjoy a unique and memorable
experience and this is only possible if we understand
the different needs of all of our customers and are
capable of putting ourselves in their shoes. We have
learned a lot and had a great time together.”
According to Teresa Rodríguez, the coordinator of
Labour Market Inclusion at the Prodis Foundation,
it was a “wonderful experience”, as the young people
were able to enjoy the amenities at Las Colinas over
two days, as well as the impressive surroundings
and array of leisure activities available. Teresa
highlighted “the warm welcome” the group received
from all the staff at Las Colinas, as from the moment
they arrived at the resort they were made to feel
completely at home. “Both students and staff from

Anecdote about Las Colinas Golf &

We were probably the first residents at Las

so excited they went out on their bikes to
explore. Two hours later, we had to go and
look for them with the security guards as
they were nowhere to be found; they had
made a hideaway with sticks and branches.

LAS COLINAS
GOLF ACADEMY
The Golf Academy at Las Colinas continues to
raise the bar in golf instruction in Spain by
implementing training programmes that apply
technology to analyse your game using Video V1
and Aimpoint green reading.
V1 Pro Software
The combination of V1Pro
software, a high-speed video
camera, -capable of capturing
images at a speed of 1000 frames
per second- , and an iPad, allows
PGA professionals to analyse
their swing in much greater detail
than other existing methods. V1
is the leading moving image
analysis software in the sports
industry, enabling PGA
professionals to upload detailed
analysis of their swing directly in
their personal video account so
they can watch it later on the Las
Colinas Golf & Country Club
website.
Whenever footage of play is posted

view it on your smartphone, either
iPhone or Blackberry, or other
devices.
AimPoint green reading
At present, Robert Mitchell, Head
PGA Professional at Las Colinas
is one of only two golf pros certified
to teach courses using the
AimPoint green reading system
in Spain. This revolutionary
reading method is based on the
Emmy-winning, high precision
'AimPoint' technology. The
system, which was displayed on
the television coverage at the PGA
Tour, will transform the game as
it reveals an aspect of putting
that is not usually taught: exactly
where to hit the ball. This system,
which is applied in leading
tournaments across the world, has
already revolutionised the technique
of three times winner of Major
Championships Padraig
Harrington; Scott McCarron, one of
the top ten experts in putting; Stacey
Lewis, a Major championship
winner and Stacey Keating, rookie
of the year in Australia.
Robert is in charge of organising
regular “AimPoint clinics” at Las
Colinas Golf & Country Club
throughout the year. After
practising, players can determine
the exact direction and force
needed for each putt on any green

Enebro
Community
Bespoke villas in a world apart
At the Enebro Community, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club provides
the unique opportunity to buy an individual villa designed by Woods
Bagot, one of the most prestigious architecture studios in Europe.
Located at the heart of the development, on an island surrounded by golf, this
exclusive community blends seamlessly into the natural surroundings and provides
magnificent views across the golf course and out towards the coast.
There are three different villa designs, all of which share the same key elements
that define their “DNA”.
A special sense of arrival: the access road to the community is integrated in
the surroundings.
Outdoor spaces that serve as rooms: a natural extension of the rooms inside.
Views are maximised to the full: the carefully planned location of each villa
enhances views.
The kitchen is the central point: it lies at the heart of the home and opens
out to other areas both inside and out.
A luxurious bathing experience: the master bathroom has been designed to
appeal to the senses.
Villa Milano
A modern, sophisticated Spanish-style villa, designed with pure lines.
The Milano villa boasts spacious, open rooms.
Its glass front enhances views towards the coast and the golf course.
The rooms inside are extended outdoors by terraces to ensure residents can
enjoy the Mediterranean climate to the full.
Three of its four bedrooms have a private terrace and all have an ensuite bathroom.
The spacious bathroom in the master bedroom has been designed to appeal to
the senses and has magnificent views.
Most of the Milano villas have a closed garage with space for two vehicles and
direct access from the garage to the house.
Villa Abubilla
The Abubilla villa provides the unique opportunity of living in a Mediterranean
forest among the pine trees.
Its impact on the environment is minimized by a vertical architectural design that
delivers a living experience in harmony with the natural surroundings.
The private swimming pool at the Abubilla villa nestles among the vegetation and
the bedrooms of most of the villas have views over the treetops, towards the golf
club.
Its three bedrooms have an ensuite bathroom with large windows supplying a very
special bathing experience and beautiful views.
Villa Mirlo
With a privileged location on the edge of the golf course, most Mirlo villas are
arranged over one storey, together with a Mediterranean courtyard and views
over the golf course or swimming pool, around which the rooms are built.
The courtyard serves a spacious outdoor living room, which extends the interior
and blends into the landscape.
A second courtyard separates the bedrooms, flooding the villa with natural light.
The master bedroom has a terrace with views over the golf course and a luxurious
bathroom.
Villa Mirlo has a third outdoor space, which is ideal to enjoy evenings and dinners
outside in more intimate and secluded surroundings.

A PLACE

Cabo de Palos and Islas Hormigas Marine Reserve:
the last untouched paradise on the Mediterranean
Cabo de Palos and Islas Hormigas Marine
Reserve of is one of the most beautiful
parts of the Mediterranean. It is a
protected underwater diving area
spanning 19 km2. The Cousteau
Foundation has ranked it as one of the
best spots on the Mediterranean to
practise underwater diving due to its
biological diversity, good seabed
conditions and spectacular shipwrecks. At
A world apart we invite you to unlock
some of its secrets.
35
A PLACE
TO DISCOVER
A world apart
Located between Cabo de Palos
Lighthouse and Islas Hormigas,
the Marine Reserve comprises
Isla Hormiga, Bajo del Mosquito
and El Hormigón and La Losa
islets. The excellent state of
conservation of the area has led
to great biological diversity, with
extensive prairies of posidonia
oceanica or neptune grass , as
well as coral colonies, which serve
as the natural habitat for a host
of different plant and animal
species.
The seabed at the
Reserve combines rocky
and sandy areas, with
extensive posidonia
oceanica prairies
36
Its shallow seabed has posed a
danger to vessels since ancient
times, as testified to by the many
shipwrecks along the coastline.
In the area known as Bajo de
Fuera, lie the remains of the Sirio,
an Italian transatlantic liner
carrying emigrants on their way
to America, which sunk in 1906,
causing a high death toll.
You need to be an experienced
diver in order to discover the
secrets of the Sirio, as the wreck
is very deep, 40 metres down, and
apply for a special permit. Other
important shipwrecks, such as the
Minerva or Norteamérica vessels,
also rest nearby on the seafloor.
Underwater paradise
Apart from the archaeological
treasures, you can also spot large
groupers, ocean sun fish, sea eels,
octopuses, dentex, and there are
even occasional sightings of tuna
fish and dolphins.
The waters at Dentro, de la Testa,
de los Piles I and II are suitable
for beginner divers, especially for
fans of underwater photography,
as there are unusual rock
formations teeming with sea life,
with large schools of small,
brightly coloured fish swimming
around. It is worth remembering
that, although you do not need a
special license to dive in these
areas, you should always do so
under the supervision of a diving
school. At the coastal town of
Cabo de Palos, you will find a
number of clubs, run by qualified
divers, where you can enjoy the
amazing feeling of exploring this
unique underwater world.
Cabo de Palos Lighthouse
The lighthouse is perched high
on a rock at Cabo de Palos.
According the Roman writer
Pliny the Elder, in ancient times,
in the same place where the
lighthouse is today, there used
to be a temple dedicated to
Saturn. Centuries afterwards,
under Philip II's rule, it was
decided to build a watch tower
to look out for enemy ships,
which was eventually built in
the nineteenth century. Cabo
de Palos lighthouse stands 51
metres high (81 above sea level)
crowned by a 2.20 X 3.20 metre
turret rising above the cornice.
Although it has been warning
ships of the dangers along this
coast since 1865, over the
centuries has been witness to
many shipwrecks like the Sirio,
Minerva or Norteamérica.
Restricted marine reserve
Since 2002 the area has been
classed as a Protected Marine
Reserve, hence all diving activity
is strictly regulated. Indeed,
nobody, except a small number of
biologists who have been granted
a special license, is allowed to dive
directly at Islas Hormigas. These
measures aim to help protect and
regenerate the marine resources,
together with the development of
traditional extraction techniques
such as trammel nets and long
line fishing, which help ensure
sustainability in the area.
Outside the Reserve, we recommend
areas in Bajo del Descargador,
which are ideal for night trips;
Bajo de los Pinchosos; Escalerica
and Cala Fría, and the latter are
highly recommended for diving
courses and initiation, apart from
being a good option when the sea
is too rough to allow you to explore
the Reserve.

For the second year running, Las Colinas Golf & Country

From 5 to 10 November 2012, eighty players fought for a
place at the Final of the European Tour Qualifying School,
the last step to earning one of the most sought-after prizes
for a golf pro, a European Tour card.
Mike Stewart, director of the European Tour, confirmed
he was “delighted” to return to Las Colinas Golf & Country

Final of the Canal+ Club Golf Reale Seguros Tour
at Las Colinas
At the beginning of November 2012, Las Colinas Golf &
Country Club was the setting selected by Canal + Golf to hold
the Final of the Canal+ Club Golf Tour.
There were high expectations surrounding the event, where
eighty finalists who had qualified for the match by playing in
different tournaments across Spain, competed hard. Players,
accompanied by friends and family, as well as members of
the organisation, enjoyed the magnificent setting at Las
Colinas.
The course was in excellent condition to host the third final
of this tour and the competition was enhanced by the use of
VPAR devices, which players say add a touch of distinction
to tournaments and keep the adrenalin running high, as they
can follow other competitors' play as they go along. Moreover,
until the very last stroke in many cases, it was not clear who
would qualify for the Dubai final.
In the women's category, Anna Blanco and Marta Rodríguez
Casanova will be the only two representatives at the
international final. In the “senior” category, Ángel Macías,
Miguel Villegas and Julio Fernández, displayed their seasoned

Finally, in the first category, Julián García Mayoral and
Eugenio Urdangarín both won a place at the Dubai final,
