The Feast of Divine Mercy
April 27, 2014
The Divine Mercy Novena begins on Good
Friday. The Lord specifically asked that it be
recited as a Novena, especially on the nine days
before the Feast of Divine Mercy. He promised,
“By this Novena (of Chaplets) I will grant every possible grace
to souls” (796). The Novena prayer is available at the entrances
of the Church. The Divine Mercy Prayer Service takes place
this Sunday at 3:00pm in church.
Nowenna Miłosierdzia Bożego - W sierpniu 1937 roku, Pan
Jezus kazał siostrze Faustynie zapisać tę Nowennę, polecając
odprawianie jej przed Świętem Miłosierdzia, począwszy od
Wielkiego Piątku. Obiecał, "W tej nowennie udzielę
duszom wszelkich łask" (Dz. 796). Nowenna jest dostępna przy
wejściach do kościoła. Naboźeństwo do Mikosierdzia Bozego
odbędzie się o godz 3:00pm w kościele.

lower than last year
A note from the Finance Council
So far this fiscal year, the Sunday Weekly collections, Holy
Day collections and the Christmas collection have all fallen
short of the budgets that we established. In addition, it’s
disappointing that - in total, these collections are running
lower than last fiscal year.
We need to maintain the momentum of the great financial
progress we made in the last fiscal year. Have you missed a
donation that you can catch up on? Are you able to increase
your Sunday contribution this year if you haven’t done so
already? Thank you for giving this your consideration.
We are thankful for your continued generosity - and we
appreciate your active support for this gift of our parish!

St. Thecla Middle School News - Language Arts
6th GradeThe sixth grade class has been studying figurative language. They have familiarized themselves with terms such as alliteration, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, personification, metaphor, and simile. The students created their own songs and dance moves to define these
terms and demonstrate examples of each. We had a lot of fun enjoying the musical styles presented. We then began
applying our
knowledge of figurative language to interpreting poetry. The sixth graders can now identify these literary devices, and are beginning
to understand their purpose. This unit will conclude with students writing a story in which they apply all of their figurative language
knowledge.
7th GradeThe seventh grade class is diving into Shakespeare. We began our unit by reading A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The students enjoyed reading this humorous tale of love, magical fairies, and foolish behavior. We then watched a film version of the play. Students
are currently working on writing a compare and contrast essay to discuss the similarities and differences between the play and the
film. Coming up soon, students will be acting out scenes from the play. Later, we will read Romeo and Juliet, and the students will
write another essay. This time they will compare and contrast Romeo and Juliet to A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
8th GradeThe eighth grade class has just finished their poetry unit. The students have been working hard to analyze and interpret the overall
mood and theme of various poems along with many other literary devices. They worked to create a poem anthology. For this project,
students chose a number of poems that interested them. They interpreted the meaning of each poem and identified many literary
devices. The students also included a short biography of each poet. They wrote a short explanation of why they chose each poem and
what it meant to them. This class is now studying a Shakespeare unit as well.

A lot of the suffering I have known
has come from failing to practice acceptance.
Acceptance is neither resignation nor throwing
in the towel. It is not a passive stance.
Instead, it is taking the irrefutable step of
saying yes to what is, rather than wishing for
something else. Once we say yes to life on
life’s terms, we give ourselves the power to
choose our response and allow God enough room to act in the
situation. Let us pray: “God, I know that this situation is
difficult and disheartening. But I will not lose hope.
I will rise to this challenge, knowing that even my smallest
efforts will be outmatched by your desire for my well-being.
Help me accept what is, so that I will be open to discovering
with you what will be.” - Tom McGrath
If you know someone who has lost a child or
grandchild to abortion, or was in any way
responsible for an abortion, and now suffers from
remorse or sadness or simply doubts that God can
ever forgive them, please let your friend know about
the Church’s post-abortion ministry, called
Project Rachel. More information can be found at
www.hopeafterabortion.com or by calling 1-888-456-HOPE.
April 27 – “What society would continue if it declared that it is
the right of citizens to kill innocent persons by majority [vote]?
In the best scenario it would be converted into a tyranny,
against which upright persons would have to react, according to
this advice by Gandhi: ‘As soon as one understands that
obeying unjust laws is contrary to his dignity as a man, no
tyranny can dominate him.’” - Most Reverend Francisco Gil

Źródłem wielu cierpień, jakie znam
jest brak stosowania akceptacji.
Akceptacja nie jest ani rezygnacją,
ani poddaniem się.
Nie jest przyjęciem pasywności.
Przeciwnie, jest ona podjęciem koniecznego
kroku, powiedzeniem „tak” temu, co jest,
niż raczej pobożnym życzeniem sobie
czegoś innego. Kiedy powiemy życiu „tak”, na zasadach
ustalonych przez życie, przydamy samym sobie siły wybierania
naszej odpowiedzi i damy Bogu wystarczająco dużo przestrzeni
do działania w konkretnej sytuacji.
- Tom McGrath

Święty Michale Archaniele!
Wspomagaj nas w walce,
a przeciw niegodziwości i zasadzkom złego
ducha bądź naszą obroną.
Oby go Bóg pogromić raczył, pokornie o to prosimy,
a Ty, Wodzu niebieskich zastępów, szatana i inne złe
duchy, które na zgubę dusz ludzkich po tym świecie
krążą, mocą Bożą strąć do piekła. Amen.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle. Be our defense against the
wickedness and snares of the devil. May God
rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O
Prince of the heavenly hosts, —by the power of
God—thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil
spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the
ruin of souls. Amen.

We need the entire parish’s support and we’re requesting the following:
First, please make arrangements to attend, and bring friends, family neighbors………
it should be a great time to get out together! Get your event tickets and raffle tickets now! We can still use volunteers. There’s something for everyone: set‐up, running games for children and adults, security, bar‐tending, selling raffle tickets, food service, event coordination, security, clean‐up, and more! You also get a chance to meet and work with other parish members and families! We can use any donations or valuables that you think could support the event’s suc‐
cess. If you are able to part with some items that others might find appealing (tickets to sporting events, gift certificates, or other great items that you hap‐
pened to get 2 of….) For more information, please contact the event coordinator: Krissy Butler at 773‐
909‐6884 or email: [email protected] or contact volunteer coordinator Gretchen Dietz at 773‐677‐0350 or email: [email protected] 12
