MorphoTrak Deploys
Mobile Devices to
National Capital Region Police
for On-the-Spot Assessments
When making roadside traffic stops,
patrol officers in the National Capital
Region are now able to quickly determine
if the individuals they face pose a
potential threat because of their criminal
past or can be safely and confidently
cited and released. The latest tool in their
identification arsenal is MorphoIDent, a
mobile terminal that fits in a shirt pocket
and can capture unique fingerprint
images in the field. MorphoIDent
provides an intuitive user interface and
a large color screen that is clearly visible
outdoors.
Agencies in Fairfax, Prince William
and other Virginia counties have ordered
220 of the new MorphoIDent mobile
identification terminals by MorphoTrak.
These mobile devices are assisting
law enforcement in many situations,
including:

Clearing someone with the same name as another person
Eliciting a suspect to be truthful when a “HIT” is returned
Confirming identification of incapacitated individuals
Using an optical sensor certified by the
FBI for image quality, the MorphoIDent
captures two fingerprint images per
subject and sends it to the police
agency’s fingerprint database for search.
The search response returns in less than
a minute and the MorphoIDent vibrates
to indicate to the officer that results are
available The knowledge gained if there
is a fingerprint match allows the officer to
deal more appropriately with the subject.
If there is no match, the print is discarded
and the officer sends the individual on his
way.
Because of its many uses and
ability to provide on-the-spot results,
mobile identification in the field is
quickly becoming “mission critical”: an
indispensable tool for patrol officers.

PrintQuest® is proving the worth of a
“Local” AFIS/APIS system.
PrintQuest® is rapidly becoming one
of the most powerful tools for solving
crimes that an agency can possess. A
proven low cost AFIS-APIS solution,
PrintQuest® is capable of importing
and processing fingerprint and palmprint
images from live scan devices, digital
cameras, and scanners along with remote
networked workstations. PrintQuest® is
offered as a complete system allowing
an agency to construct and manage
a local database of known fingerprints
and palm prints and use this database
for automated searching of latent
fingerprints and latent palm prints.
During a search, PrintQuest®
compares prints using 3 parameters; The
minutiae points themselves, whether
the point in question is a bifurcation
or an end point; The relationship of
each individual point to its neighbors in
space (both direction and distance); And
most importantly, the skeleton or ridge
flow of the print. This is what provides
exceptional results. While most systems
only search and compare the minutiae
points of prints; PrintQuest® includes
the skeleton in the actual search process.
PrintQuest® features High Accuracy
Auto-Extraction of centers, deltas,
patterns, as well as minutiae points
for unsurpassed user time savings on
entry of prints. In PrintQuest®, it is not
22
IDNews Supplement
“The winner of the 2011 “Worst Latent Hit” in PrintQuest Contest.”
necessary to place minutiae points on
any ten print image. Auto-extraction
allows PrintQuest® to be useful by both
the novice and expert alike.
PrintQuest® can work with palms just
as easily as it does with fingers. Indeed, of
the published statistics a large portion of
the identifications are of palms. Working
with palms in PrintQuest® is easy, fast,
effective and highly accurate. The entire
palm is searched every time, quickly and
efficiently. PrintQuest® requires LESS
work for the user, and saves time.
PrintQuest® AFIS is an expandable
AFIS solution. The system is modular;
as an agency grows; the system grows
with it, keeping up with the needs of the
agency. PrintQuest® can be configured
on a single Personal Computer with a
database as small as 3,000 Ten Print
Cards and be configured on a dedicated,
rack mounted server with a database that
numbers in the Millions of Ten Print and
Palm Cards.
All PrintQuest® systems arrive as
a complete package including Dell
computer hardware, a flat bed scanner
for 500/1000 DPI, laser printer,
CDRW/DVD combo drives, APC-UPS,
LCD monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
Installation and training is included. Preloading of existing paper cards is also
available.
SPEX Forensics began manufacturing
and selling Forensic Light Sources in 1992.
In the subsequent years, SPEX Forensics
expanded their product line to include:
Reflective Ultra Violet Imaging systems
(RUVIS SceneScope®), Fingerprint
Image Enhancement Systems, and the
“State of the Art” in Desktop Automated
Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFISAPIS), PrintQuest®.
The World Leader in Forensic Light
Sources, SPEX Forensics is the
manufacturer of the “Ultimate Forensic
Light Source,” the CrimeScope® Series.
SPEX Forensics has 4 sales offices on 3
continents with Headquarters located in
Edison, New Jersey, USA.
